Im a little ticked off the more I think of Zelda U's reveal, and can't help but feel a little bit bamboozled. Let's look at the timeline of this game:
E3 2013- We're told of Aonuma's ideas of returning to the fundamentals of the seriea, and that's about it, which is fine, because we all are well aware how Zelda games take a long time to develop and we got skyward sword only a year and a half prior.
A Little Bit after E3 2013- We're informed Nintendo actually strongly considered showing ZeldaU off. We're pleasantly surprised the project is that far in development, but Nintendo claims it had enough to show, but "didnt want to take away from other parts of the presentation" We're shocked at this claim because Nintendo's presentation universally disappointed everyone, and if anything could've saved it, its OBVIOUSLY ZeldaU, right? We're confused, but again, Nintendo gets a pass because of development cycles.
ComiCon 2013- Fast forward several months to comicon, where aonuma is showing off Link Between Worlds and he again claims he was going to show off ZeldaU at this event. Aonuma states he's "going to start putting together something to show soon, as soon as he gets back". We forgive this again, because LBW is on the horizon, but what the heck, they had enough to show several months ago, and now had more months to work on it, but still nothing. Frustrating, but exciting that they're planning on showing something "soon".
"Soon" = 7 or 8 months later at e3 2014- Alright, it's crunch time! This was the latest they could possibly reveal, so here we are! Its been a long, frustrating ride, but hey, this is zelda. What do we get? A generic cgi videoexplaining absolutely nothing while aonuma says the SAME EXACT things from the previous e3. Open world, return to roots, etc.
No story details, no name of the game, no details of unique mechanics... Like, seriously? We got, at best, a look at what the art style will be (is this 100 percent confirmed? Because this had no gameplay footage...) This is so unacceptable for a game that was ready to be shown a FULL YEAR ago!
It's been 3 months since e3, totalling 15 months minimum that the game has been ready to be shown, and we still have nothing. Are we going to have to wait allll the way until e3 2015, 2 full years after it could've been shown, to ACTUALLY learn Real details on this game? What is the hold up? Nintendo seems so out of touch sometimes with things like this and doesnt realize how frustrating they can be. Throw your fanbase a bonehere, guys. You didnt think itd be a good idea to hype this game during the full year of dismal sales and horrible press on the system???
Can someone with a hisyory of past Zelda game reveals explain to me how long in advance we knew things like atleast a temporary name, saw gameplay footagr, etc.? Wasnt it like a year or two before the release? Are we going to be clueless on the biggest game in the wii u's lifecycle until mere months before its release?
How do you feel about all this, and when do you expect... anything?
I hear ya. It always taken forever to get info on new Zelda games. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see much else (if anything) of the game before E3 2015. I don't really see Nintendo doing a Zelda U themed Nintendo Direct this fall, what with Smash Bros. and the amiibo being the two big things they're pushing for the holiday. And I suspect that in early 2015 they'll turn their attention to Yoshi's Wooly World and that GamePad centric Kirby game (can't remember the title).
It's frustrating, but we just have to stay the course with it!
My game library ranges from Mario Kart to Call of Duty to Tales of Xillia to Diablo 3 to Forza. To me gaming is about having fun - not blindly supporting only one company while thumbing your nose at "the evil other systems."
Earliest we'll hear about it next is e3 3015. After that, I'm sure we'll get a trailer or two spread throughout the rest of the year for when it launches holiday 2015 or spring 2016
Nintendo is always working on a Zelda game, they might as have well told us about Zelda U right after Skyward Sword, it makes little difference. Take Twilight Princess for example; In 2003 Aonuma ''revealed'' that they're working on the next entry in the series, just a couple of months after Wind Waker was released. Fast forward to December 2006, and the game was finally released; 3.5 years since it's initial reveal. Nintendo usually does this, they reveal some ideas they have about the next Zelda game, it takes them a year or two to show a teaser trailer, the following year we'll get an actual trailer, followed by its release soon after.
Its almost like your post completely ignores every single fact stated in the post!
Too bad you didnt just post a generic blanket statement that answers absolutely nothing about any of the points raised- oh.
Seriously, if you're going to make an attempt to be sarcastic and slyly insulting, atleast be somewhat good at it. If you even bothered to read what was written, the point made is that Ninteno has been publicly claiming to not only be ready to show something on numerous occassions, but having planned to do so, also. And when they finally give us something, its a bunch of nothing.
"It takes a long time" is an awful answer, especially when it's mentioned twice in the original post! Lol wow man.
We have known about that Game X since like when the Wii U was first announced, same with that Fire Emblem game, and we STILL know nothing about them. So it will likely be a while before you hear stuff about Zelda

We know a fair amount about X, its real name is Xenoblade Chronicles X and was shown off at E3 this year.
As for Zelda U, I think E3 2015. It makes sense to show off very little as it could have diverted attention from Smash Bros.

I don't think such predictability is easily applied on Nintendo. And I see benefits of being secretive about a game that takes so long to develop, specially when there are competitors around.
Personally, the only date that's really important to me is when I will be able to play the game, FWIW.

So in like 3 years we have got a name, seen a trailer, and you consider that a 'fair amount'?
I just went to the games Wikipedia page, and the whole article is like 3 paragraphs long haha. Nothing is known about the story and next to nothing about he gameplay. Check out the official Nintendo page on the game
