Topic: What do you think of universal roster for Super Smash Bros. 4?

I'd say unlock exclusive characters by connecting as previously mentioned. And potential DLC should be cross- platform. Iwata said they'd be exploring paid DLC and hopefully characters aren't expensive and/or already coded on disc/card. Hope Nintendo does Free DLC and paid exclusive DLC (10 Stages + 5 characters + items and modes) you are not able to get for free.

I feel safe knowing their plan on paid DLC won't be insignificant and outof line.

Also: More female characters and two more Mother characters at least.

Yes, them

Kumatora's side B can be a variation of PK Freeze; Poo's a variation PK Thunder. Of course, Poo may be using his sword and feet for standard attacks. Masked Man would be a neat addition too who can borrow similar traits from Lucas with varied effects, power and speed. I like how in Brawl how most of all clones are adjusted in ways that they are approx. 80-90% different from characters with similar move sets- ranging from effects of moves (Ness' and Lucas' PK Fire, PSI Magnet and PK Thunder for example)- but their neautral moves, are their own (again, Ness and Lucas as a great example), as well as speed, jumps, etc. I think Toon Link is more of a 'clone' that because his moves are a bit too too similar, like Ganondorf to C.Falcon, but they handle differently from the character's they borrow their moves from.

Ganon should use his sword (seen briefly in Melee in the victory screen) in some fashion and Link's younger counter part should keep the bow and boomerang but have his other items be different. I thought the Deku Leaf could be used to replace the Boomerang, Bombchus over Bombs and maybe the Skull Hammer replace his bow (hold the B-button to charge up hammer, let go and watch the damage be done). If not, keep the brang and bow.

Just some thoughts.

There seems to be a mixed reaction here.

Personally, if universal roster happen, my expectations are very low for the roster. I am only expecting 37 characters, transformation not included.

What people don't seem to be getting here, though, is that if they implement exclusive characters, then ALL characters HAVE to be coded into BOTH games. So, basically, you're paying for a game that contains content you don't get to use. It's pretty simple. If I'm on my WiiU playing as an exclusive character against you on your 3DS, my WiiU character HAS to appear on your screen, along with all of his moves, sound clips, and stats. His coding is in your game, but you can't actually ever use him no matter how awesome you think he is, because he's "exclusive." If you unlocked the version-exclusive characters through paid DLC, that'd be Nintendo pulling the biggest douche move the gaming industry currently knows: paying for content you already bought. I'd be one thing if each game started with a different set, but when all is unlocked, they have to have the same characters, and it has to be done without additional payment.

Your "douche move" theory doesn't make any sense. Suppose it's like you said; 1 person only owns the Wii U version while the other only owns the 3DS version and play vs each other, and they're able to unlock the version only characters through paid DLC, This means prior to DLing, they couldn't possibly have already owned the content unless they owned both versions. Nintendo can't just magically guess that your 3DS acct and Wii U acct are registered as the same user even though you may own both, 1 because of friend codes (and piracy) and 2, because 1's a handheld and 1's a console. Besides, who said anything about "paid" DLC? Remember Nintendogs? (or maybe more popularly, Pokémon) You can connect to a user with another version so obviously they'll have a different dog than you, and then that "version only" breed would become available later in your version because, as you said, their coding is already there. There's nothing to pay for. Just because you own a game the supports the coding for DLC exclusives, doesn't mean you own that content; The coding may be there, there content isn't.

There's no reason for exclusive anything. And there's no reason to want exclusive anything, either. Why would you want people with less money to have a lesser experience? It makes no sense. If both games have the same content, everyone can get the same game for her system of preference and be able to play with anyone on either system at no disadvantage for only spending $40-60 instead of $100. Let the 3DS game be 3D and have hotkeys and obviously the cheaper price tag. That would be enough for me if I had a 3DS.

There would obviously be less reason for anyone to buy the 3DS version, except the 3D maybe (which judging from a lot of posts throught the forums not a large expected percentage of people use very much of) if both versions were the same. That's pretty much the point of dividing up the exclusives, only I see no need to pay for DLC, as such my example with Nintendogs. However, the direction the Wii U appears to be going, with the exception of backwards compatibility for Wii games and controllers, they might as well be calling it the Nintendo Wii DS.

I wouldn't mind paying for new fighters, stages and music (and maybe new events/challenges or game modes) as long as I was getting my moneys worth. I don't usually buy dlc but that's mostly because I rarely feel like I'm getting a good deal.

As has been said before though, I wouldn't like paying just to unlock something that's already on my disc/cartridge.

They don't need version exclusives to make both games worthwhile. The 3DS version will be portable and 3D, the Wii U version will be more visually impressive and in HD. They could do extra things like have maybe a Street Fighter style streetpass mode on the 3DS and maybe have a stage creator on the Wii U that uses the tablet for some cool creative input..........

Chrono_Cross

Of course the 3DS version will have less content. But yeah I agree I don't want there to be exclusive content...

Just for you.

The wii U version will also be better for local multi-player which is the reason I'm getting that version as smash bros. games are some of the best games for local multi-player.

skywake

I don't know about that. Mario Kart DS was awesome fun for local multiplayer when you had a room full of people who had DSes and I'd assume Smash Bros on 3DS wouldn't be much different. They could even include some sort of more than four player local multi on the 3DS version and blow everyone's mind.

There is also the fact that not everyone will buy both systems. Wii U might end up costing a bazillion dollars. People who already have a 3DS might content themselves with the 3DS version, especially if they've already dumped $250 on the system.

@Dave: it doesn't have to do with whether you bought both versions or not, but the fact that the information would already be programmed into the cart or disc, but you wouldn't be able to use it until you paid MORE money BEYOND the retail value. THAT is the douche move. And everybody hates that.

I seriously don't care what characters there are as long as i have ness, toon link, and pikachu but yeah exclusives increase the diversety who knows wii u might have new IPS since miyamoto been wanting them for a LONG time... as for stages how about super mario galaxy's effect of gravity... if the music for good egg galaxy isn't there... i'll cry

More characters = more diversity. Exclusives = fewer characters per version.

I think they should have the same general characters but then some exclusives for each console. Since they won't be able to fight each other it won't matter.
