Topic: What do you think of universal roster for Super Smash Bros. 4?

Hello there. With universal roster a possibility for Super Smash Bros. 4 (Meaning both the 3DS and Wii-U share the same roster), what is your opinion on it? Do you want to see it happen or not?

Please give your reasons why you support or don't support it.

Universal roster? Uhmmmm, I'd like it if everything I do on my 3DS is also done to the Wii U version.

Who is honestly going to say they want to see a smaller roster on one version of the game than the other.

They had said they wanted the two versions to interact with each other. If I have a friend who plays as Mario and only has the Wii U version, I think I have a bit of an unfair advantage if I use a 3DS exclusive character he's never seen, right?

And to do that would mean they'd still have to code that character into the Wii U game, and that would just piss a lot of people off if they programmed characters into each game that you couldn't play as, except by hacking.

A universal roster is the ONLY way to do it.

I don't want the Wii U version and the 3DS version to be the exact same game.

Perhaps, as long as the rosters interact.

A smart thing to do is to unlock characters by having both versions

I don't really care about numbers, but maybe each can have exclusive characters. Which you can import to the other game by owning both. Also, what lz said.

That's a bit too Two Games For The Price Of One for me though, which I generally av-- **glances at Pokémon boxes** — uhm, nevermind.

They won't be. They'll most likely have the same characters, stages, and items, but the 3DS version is supposed to be focused on the single-player experience and character customization, while the Wii U version would be more like a stadium for multiplayer.

@Rift: Development barely started. What do you mean "supposed to"?

I want the 3DS and WiiU version to be different from each other. I'd like a different rooster, some different stages and features like street pass and so on implemented in the 3DS game and others in the WiiU game.

Maybe have Doctor Mario and other characters that have been cut throughout the series plus some new ones in the 3DS version and guest characters like Megaman, Snake, Sonic and so on in the WiiU version plus some new ones.

I want them to be different in more than just small features. Feels like a wasted opportunity if they're practically the same game IMO. Would be nice to be able to connect the 3DS to the WiiU and play SSB together with a WiiU owner using the 3DS as a controller and playing as a character the WiiU owner never seen/met before.

@lzbirdboy: What I described is Sakurai's plan for the 3DS and Wii U versions. He's leading the project, so I think that's what will happen unless he changes his mind soon.

I want there to be exclusive Wii U characters and exclusive 3DS characters. THey wiill probably do it because of one word: Money. If people buy one version, they're still missing out on characters, so they'll go out and buy another version, and that gives Nintendo Money. It's logix.

That's actually a good idea IMO.
But It could be conplicated.

I'd be really surprised if that didn't happen. Miyamoto already hinted at it a couple times (3DS as a Wii U controller), and it would be perfect for Smash Bros since there are two versions.
