He could be a playable character. Just because they showed his shadow in the Pyrosphere stage does not mean he won't be playable. Sakurai told us that Zero Suit Samus wouldn't return in the direct and then he took it back a second later. So only time will tell if Ridley will become a playable character.

But he didn't confirm it afterwards. There is no premise to Ridley being playable

The Alfonso thing is a good point. Toon Link looked like he wouldn't be playable by the same reasoning and we later found out he was. I don't think Ridley is in, but it is not a complete fantasy to imagine he might be.

People don't die in Smash Bros,both Mario and the raccoons just fly off-screen and then come back(Mario via platform and the racoons via anothet smash ball).

Why else would they have another direct the day after Smash?
If he were to be added, I have a feeling he won't be publicly revealed and will be hidden until you unlock him in-game!
