1.M&L:Paper Jam US release on the 22nd,Hyrule Warriors Legend JP release on the 21st,Final Fantasy Explorers West release on the 26th,Lego Marvel's Avengers.Nintendo has to show that there games to play early in the year. They can't leave 2 first party and 2 third party games to die
2.Splatoon's last updates are this month and they have to celebrate the success of Splatoon
3.Nintendo usually has a direct in the first 2 months of the year, but because of the january releases its more likely to be a january direct.
@bluemage1989 Yeah, that amiibo game rumor is an interesting one. Let's hope it's not a smaller game like amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits, but more of a bigger title. I'm personally hoping for a sandbox/action/adventure platformer with a story that has all the Nintendo characters fighting a new villain. Kinda like the Subspace Emissary, but more unique and open world gameplay
I like Smash Wii U over Melee. FIGHT ME.
I'm addicted to amiibo. Full collection of the Smash series....help me....please...
Also, I like to go fast, really fast.

If splatoons final update wasn't this month then I wouldn't be considering a January direct to be a possibility. Though one will surely happy between now and February 21st.
I hope it's true and that the rumoured amiibo game is a thing. Anyone heard anything about that??
Amiibo game? That does sound interesting. This is the first time I'm hearing about it. Is it supposed to be like a Skylanders/Disney type game, or just another Amiibo Tap thing or whatever? Man, if it was a full game and I could get even more value out of my Amiibo, I'd buy it in an instant.
As for the Direct, I see what you're saying with all of these "signs," but I think the biggest "sign" there will be a Direct in January is just basic sense. It's been quite some time now (I want to say 6 months, but I could be wrong on that) since Nintendo told the world we'd hear about NX in the new year, and now that it is the new year, I can't see them waiting past January to start trickling some information. Gotta keep the excitement building!
I don't know anything about it either just a rumour I heard that Nintendo have a studio working on a game for WiiU that focuses entirely on amiibo. Amiibo tap was a good little promotion and it allowed me to try a few games I hadn't before but a i'm hoping for something substantial. It could have been in development for a while for all we know and just had a ton of delays. I mean it seems a little illogical to launch amiibo with no plans at all for an amiibo game. I'm calling some kind of lifhtwieght RPG myself.
Am I the only one that does not want an amiibo game? It would be like Skylanders or Disney Infinity and those games are not as good as others, I'd prefer to see Nintendo focused on creating new characters for an original game like they did with Splatoon that has been a huge success.
Except that people have been reading tea leaves again
Eh, not quite. It's hardly solid evidence, but usually when their current promotions and games start to wind down is when it's time to announce new stuff. And they do have plenty of games to update us on, and probably several to announce. The next several months are probably going to focus on Star Fox Zero, Pokken, and Fire Emblem Fates in the west, there's also games like Gen Iku whatever, Federation Force, and Project Giant Robot and Guard that we know little about that could use more details. Now would definitely be a good time for a Direct to set the stage for their Spring lineup.
I do think a Direct will happen this month due to Splatoon's final updates, but I'd be surprised if anything turns up until at least the 18th.

There's also the last batch of Smash DLC (Bayonetta and Corrin) and TP HD apparently has features they said they'll cover at a later date.
I think it's inevitable we'll get one for TPHD and the new Nintendo Account but they don't come till March so I think we're going to be waiting at least another month.
I say we will likely get a direct between the NA launches of Paper Jam and FE Fates is my guess. Probably the week before or week after the February 2nd quarter financial results meeting.

@WebHead: Im fairly sure the direct will be mid january. And even if the direct won't be this month i can't wait for more info on Zelda U.Nintendo has to show us at least the name in the next direct, but i think the release date will be shown in another direct, maybe E3.
It does a good job of promoting the animal crossing line of amiibo and yeah smash bros etc did get some decent usage of amiibo but I can see WiiU and NX both getting a dedicated amiibo game. Amiibo have been one of Nintendo's big successes it would be silly not to develop on the idea.
