Topic: Should Nintendo Release HD Collections For Wii U?

Gamecubed

Over the last few years we've seen the release these HD sets of games (ie. Metal Gear Solid, Tomb Raider, Zone of the Enders, Jak and Daxter, God of War etc). Nintendo has done a few game collections before (Kirby and Mario), and Nintendo has proven that they aren't totally against HD remasters.
My question is, would you be interested in Nintendo doing something like this for Wii U at some point in the future? What sets should they put out? What ones would you buy?

Would you even be interested in Nintendo doing something like Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection/Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection where they put a bunch of older titles from the NES and SNES on one disc. I think it's unlikely since they probably want you to buy on VC, but you can still dream, I suppose.

Not really. I'd much rather Nintendo spend the time and money that would be required towards new games and new IPs. They have to realize by now that they can't coast on the same half-dozen franchises indefinitely.

They should release anything and everything for the Wii-U

If it was priced reasonably (which it most likely wouldn't be) then maybe.

Nintendo has shown that HD collections really are not that hard to do. The Zelda team made Wind Waker HD, and from interviews it didn't slow down their other projects that much.

I would like to see a Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn Collection and a Paper Mario HD Collection.

Yes. Since they have next to no 3rd party support they should. This would be a great way to put something out in-between the big 1st party titles.

I think Nintendo's going to be doing HD Collections once the Wii U starts to pick up, like a Super Mario HD Collection with Sunshine, Galaxy and Galaxy 2. I could see Sega also doing a Sonic HD Collection with Sonic Colors, Sonic Generations, and Sonic 4 Complete.

They definitely should when it comes to great GC games, simply because quite a few of them are hard to come by nowadays, but still have a lot of entertainment to them. But there should be a clear limit.
Games like Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, or StarFox Assault would definitely benefit from the technological advance the WiiU offers. MiiVerse, online features, reworked textures - sky's the limit, to call it.
But when it comes to games like Twilight Princess, Paper Mario 2, or Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, they should put new content in. These games were awesome, but they need fresh stuff to accomodate for later additions to newer entries.

If they hired another company to do it to not slow down production on other games (similar to how they hired M2 for GBA) then I would be all for it. I just don't want them to tie up their own resources with it

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Yes, I think they should. I could see them doing a Metroid Prime HD Collection and probably a 3D Zelda HD Collection, though I think they'll stick to single remakes on that. The problem is that Nintendo doesn't exactly have a ton of games that really benefit from being in HD. Maybe an HD Mario Kart Collection? X3 But then, is that's essentially what they'll be doing with Retro Tracks in Mario Kart games from now on?

The only thing is that this isn't what they need, right now. They need to be putting resources into expanding the Wii U's genres. What Nintendo seriously needs right now is to pull customers that weren't on the Wii U because it didn't have anything for them, but for that, they need 3rd party devs who didn't have an audience on the Wii U. The only solution is to bring that audience, first with something of their own. There needs to be an action reel at E3, this year, awesome enough to bring in gamers from every crowd, and hopefully, with them will follow the devs that Nintendo has needed to lure back to feed on the audiences that Nintendo, themselves can barely tend to.

A nifty calendar (Updated 9/13/15)
The UGXloggery ... really needs an update.

That's not gonna work. HD remakes aren't VC ports, after all, and external developers might not know what to do with some assets or how to improve flaws. It wouldn't end up well.

Of course. Nintendo fans love buying the same game over and over.

That is why Nintendo would supervise. It would also be a company they trust. I don't know, I just don't want Nontendo to be to distracted by HD remakes, it already takes them so long for new games

Seems to be a trend for gamers in general examples reaction to Wind Waker HD, Last of US PS4 and rumors of Halo 2 Anniversary.

Surely you could say the same about the fans of the Xbox and Playstation? I mean, all three of the main console companies have repetitive franchises that are popular, despite their mocked repetition.

Anyway, I'd like to see Twilight Princess get a remake along with Luigi's Mansion. Since they are both sought after Gamecube titles, it would make sense for Nintendo to remake them like they have for Wind Waker.

True, but they haven't been milking the same cow for 30 years like Nintendo has.

Well, give them 30 years in the hardware business and they will.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
