Topic: Should Legend Of Zelda & Metroid Add More Playable Prominent Characters To The Series?

I feel like these games specifically have such a small cast of notable characters to play as (1 Character) that it is difficult to expand and make spinoffs from.. I am still waiting for the day I could play as Princess Zelda in legit Legend Of Zelda game just once! Metroid really needs to find a way to make their cast of characters bigger.. because that game series more representation

I think they don't do this because Nintendo doesn't need more game series run into the ground by 3 spinoff games every year. Basically.

But I certainly wouldn't mind a couple either. I'm still hoping someone makes a Groose game someday.

Not as main series, canonical titles, no. Spin-offs are fine though.

The Legend of Zelda should always star Link, and Metroid should always star Samus Aran.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Of course.. What I meant for Metroid was supporting characters like how Bayonetta has Loki.. and as for Zelda I want to have a legit Zelda Game Spinoff based on Princess Zelda and her alter egos for example..

Both games already gave us such an option. Metroid Prime: Hunters gave us a good bunch of one-shot characters, and Hyrule Warriors left us with pretty much every capable character from the Zelda series and some more, though both game's aren't canon.

The thing is, Zelda always has meaningful characters, and I'd say it wouldn't even hurt to get some other playable characters in there, just not in a Zelda game without Link. Some characters (including Zelda herself) have potential, and could even open up new possibilities.
Metroid, on the other hand, is the story of Samus Aran. The whole Metroid series revolves around her struggles, discoveries, and battles. Other characters barely ever appeared in a way you'd consider them potentially playable in the first place (Hunters and Corruption are the only Metroid games with other characters who can fight, to begin with), and the feeling of isolation can get lost when Samus isn't the only strong person around. Besides, Samus often stresses that she prefers working alone, so even teamplay wouldn't be a good idea.

Wouldn't mind seeing a spin off where you play Ganon taking over Hyrule. I guess it could be a full campaign DLC for Hyrule warriors rather than a couple of missions instead of a full game since HW fits the sort f gameplay I'd expect.

I'd rather have a Zelda spin off about Petra going about pirating 'n looting or Midna set in the Twilight world.

For a while now, I've felt Metroid should focus on some different bounty hunter, similar to how Pikmin 3 didn't focus on Olimar.
Samus' story has been told, and while it's not impossible to add more to her saga, it's not a must in the series.

Honestly, I think Impa deserves her own game more than Zelda.

So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.

Other than another bounty hunter, Metroid having other characters doesn't make sense.

I'm hoping for an Impa game based on her time as a nurse featuring simulation/mini-games where you have to put leaches on people, pulling teeth and other old timey medical practices.

Metroid has offered a solid cast of other bounty hunters beyond Samus Aran once before as playable, in Metroid Prime Hunters, which is a canonical entry in the Metroid Series @Kaze_Memaryu between Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2. I would love to see expansion upon Kanden, Spire, Trace, Noxus, Sylux and Weavel in a game not too unlike Hyrule Warriors, but focuses on an epic conflict between the Federation and Space Pirates. Metroid Prime Hunters 2 is always a possibility too, but I think I'm too attached to my experience in MPH to really appreciate that release. Still I'd imagine it'd be one of the better releases in the franchise.

I've yet to play Hyrule Warriors, but I love what they did by making a good chunk of Zelda characters playable. It's an experience I plan on getting into this holiday, and I wouldn't be surprised if this were to become my favorite Zelda game with its playable pool. I wouldn't mind a second Hyrule Warriors that focuses more on the cel-shaded entries and 2D Zelda for a playable selection, but I'd like them to apply the Warriors concept to Fire Emblem or Xenoblade more so. I honestly don't think I'd play into Fire Emblem otherwise, outside of using its representation in Smash.

@I-U Nope, Retro themselves denied it a canonical presence for the sake of having more freedom with the designs, which is reinforced by the fact that nowhere in the Prime games, any mention is made of anything surrounding the events in Hunters.

I would love to play a role reversal game with Zelda being the nobody and link the prince only to find out that he is actually a decoy and Zelda was a hidden princess since by now somebody should have informed the royal family that Ganondorf is hunting their daughters. I would like to see a story where Zelda and Link are siblings as well. I always thought the "romance" was forced. I want to shake up the royalty thing a little more. Zelda is always a leader of some sort... even when she isn't a princess. Also I just want to play as her since she is a magical archer.

But if I could get a Ninja Nanny Impa game I'd play the heck out of that.

You can play with her on Hyrule Warriors and hopefully more spinoff games but no I DO NOT want to play as Zelda for the main series

I don't care about Retro's assessment. I care about Richard Vorodi's assessment of Hunters as he designed the game's single player and story. In the April 2006 issue of Nintendo Power, he stated, "Mission File 79109 sits somewhere between Metroid Prime and Echoes. You'll notice that Samus is piloting her ship from Prime, but she's wearing the Varia Suit from Echoes." That's in response to a question regarding the chronological placement of Hunters within the series.

Earlier, Tanabe, who's the producer for the Prime Series, came out and said that Hunters takes place between Prime and Echoes. In that same interview, near the bottom of the link, Tanabe confirms Retro had been working on Corruption hence NST developing Hunters, which is the only Metroid Prime game done by Retro that would've been able to reference Hunters.

Do you actually have any links that contradict this information?

Never played Hunters so IDK how it was handled there, but if I were making a Metroid game with multiple characters, I'd do it like Sonic Adventure and give each character separate storylines and occasionally cross paths but never work together.

I've always wanted to play as a Space Pirate, they get a lot of neat gear that would add a lot of variety to the game. Energy Scythes, EMP grenades, and the mother of all powerups, jetpacks.
