Limited printings? You mean like the Metroid Trilogy and Xenoblade?

Xenoblade's limited printing ( or rather, its entire situation, really) was handled poorly, IMO, and I'm guessing Nintendo thinks so, too, since Reggie's now been sidelined to allow for more of their games to reach the west.

I'm getting a rather hilarious image of Reggie getting pummeled from the side by a football player for some reason.

Three reasons I think this might happen.. One.. back in the N64 and GBA era Nintendo financed Ogre Battle 64.. and Knight of Lotus.. if the Big N did not think much of Atlus.. that may.. and most likely would not have happened.. two.. The Big N and Atlus are in such cahoots that a Shin Megami Tensei/ Fire Emblem game is in the talks and may well launch.. (Nintendo is clearly not taking Atlus lightly) Three.. the Eshop discount.. I think Nintendo may have had their eyes on Atlus for sometime.. and it would be a fantastic.. deal.. as long as Nintendo allows Atlus to do what their doing and does not interfere to much.. and that this is most liktley.. (Not to mention should happen)...

They better not. I want Persona 5 on anything but the Wii U or 3DS.

The thing you said most that bothers me, to have this game on every other platform including pc but not a Nintendo console...it's not like you have to buy it, oh sure you are putting this game on a console with not many owners but every game helps out the console.

It's Persona 5. It deserves to be on the best hardware available, with the most sales possible. That just happens to be anything but the Wii U and 3DS.

What makes you say that? Nintendo's never let any other developer they own just do things without following strict supervision and criteria. Heck, they do that with developers they work with that aren't necessarily owned by them. Why would they do anything different with Atlus?

Wait right there; I want evidence before you start saying that Nintendo is restrictive when it comes to third-party developers. Nintendo being restrictive with second party developers and licensing deals I can understand, but third party developers and their own games? Show me the (metaphorical) money before we make this (metaphorical) deal.

EDIT: As for my opinion on this rumor? I'm not a business person, so I'm not going to speculate whether or not this would be good for any parties involved. However, if this does happen then Nintendo has officially entered the "Cult Favorite" camp and solidified a staple position.

Persona 5 in order to get the most sales going by current hard ware ... would be on 3DS.. it is out selling every other system.. and would as thus make the most sense.. especially when you consider the series it is spun off of is a 3DS exclusive currently.. so your logic makes no sense.. sorry..

Persona 5 would make the most money being more successful than "niche". Which it probably should be.

It's the best for sales in Japan, but the best hardware for it gameplay-wise would be a console. The PS3, for instance, happens to be a particularly viable console worldwide, while still being more powerful than, say, the 3DS.

I meant the third parties they have deals with, like when they worked with Namco or Tecmo-Koei. Sorry for not making that more clear.

I think Nintendo might buy Atlus. Like @CanisWolfred said, SOME of their games are "niche", but plenty of them aren't.
Trauma Center was "niche" kinda, but it was still popular and sold pretty well.
They could make Atlus games look less niche, while still retaining what made the games popular.
It's still a possibility, and I wouldn't put it past Nintendo if they did buy Atlus. There's alot they could do to make Atlus' games more popular on Nintendo systems than PS Vita.

They haven't even made Trauma Center on PS Vita, and no one besides a DS player would even know or care about that game.

Can anyone tell me who has actually wondered if there would be a Trauma Center on PS Vita?

Seeing how Nintendo owns Monolith Soft, I don't think it's impossible to see them buy Atlus. Like some others said, nothing would probably change about Atlus, just exclusive developing for Wii U and 3DS.

Let's not forget this is a possibility. No one says Nintendo will or won't buy Atlus, but it's definately on the table.
They could even suggest Atlus to make another Puzzle League game, Trauma Center, etc. games like that, then allow them to create their own game.
Rare had quite a bit of freedom if anyone remembers. Once Nintendo gets what they want from their studios, they usually allow them to make whatever else under their logo.

That would require the series to have fans

I'm sure you think it was a huge hit on Nintendo platforms though. If it sold 'pretty well' do you have any idea why there hasn't been a new one in five years?

Only nintendo knows if they will buy Atlus. The author does make one very good point tho. I can't think of a single time nintendo has given away free monney if you buy third party software. If you use the eshop promo cash for and download third party of indie nintendo has to pay them. Lets think about this for a moment.

This is the only time I've seen them give away "free money" (not really free btw). This could be going along with the crossover that's coming out rather than a "hey, let me buy you because we're doing this deal"

I am not going fill this with all the quotes @CanisWolfred has said but I really did lol. Now first I would like to say that just because they have good relations with other companies doesn't mean that Nintendo working with Atlus on a crossover (which they never do) is not cause for the suspicion that Nintendo may value the company more than they expect. Plus, if any of the Big 3 get Atlus the company will likely get more resources. As for your Persona comment, I am sorry but I couldn't help but laugh. It's obvious you have your own preferences as well as a consumer what you want Atlus games to appear on regardless. Nothing wrong with that, but don't go going around acting like your preferences our the only acceptable facts. This is a rumor, and I realize that my opinions may not be fully accurate of the situation but Im basing it off of what I know from the outside. I am looking at this from the perspective of if Nintendo wants to make money and a POSSIBLE avenue for Atlus to have more resources. From what I am seeing from you, you are trying to rationalize a position where Nintendo getting Atlus wouldn't be just bad for you but bad for Atlus. Not trying to start some flame war, just calling it how I see it. Sony could get Atlus, and it might be good for Atlus if the Vita wasn't a complete flop, and right now since the 3DS is the most successful AND the Wii U at least has a chance of coming back to get at least decent sales, if they had to be acquired by one of the big 3, Nintendo would be the best choice.

Ya. The game has fans. It's basically a more graphic Cooking Mama where you perform operations on people instead of cutting up vegetables.
Also, there probably hasn't been one because DS and Wii were getting old and they released 2 Trauma Center games for each system, one of which being a re-make/port of the first one to Wii, but still.
I think it would be a good idea to release a new Trauma Center, and use them to make some smaller titles like Puzzle League(based on their experience with Poyu Pop Fever).

Atlus will probably make a new one regardless, so why not on 3DS? People on PS Vita would probably buy it, too. I really don't care if the games are exclusive or not from a 3rd party company, it's just interesting how Nintendo has teamed up with them and they just so happen to be in a tough spot with the parent company.
If SMT × FE is far enough in development, it might cost them more not to buy the company.

If the promo is only for the crossover then why don't they mention it in the promo and why isn't it 30 bucks off the cross over when it's released? It is indeed free monney for the developers of anything you buy with that thirty. It also cuts into nintendo a first week profits for a summer release the first week is the most important.

@Trainer_DJ: How much do you expect Nintendo to make from a deal like this? This will not help the western market that much since a good portion of the market owns Sony systems.

i know i want Atlus to be bought by someone other than the big three, so that they can be 3rd party and make games for whatever console they like, but my inner fanboy wants Nintendo to buy them, which isn't okay by me. it'd be a good move for nintendo, but i want Atlus to be 3rd party.

Nintendo probably doesn't make money off of what 3rd Parties release outside of licensing fees and whatnot. As for why they didn't do it closer to the launch of the game - to promote first week sales of Shin Megami Tensei IV, which, as you said, are very important, albeit to Atlus. It also gives people time to get familiar with these games, beat them, tell people how great they are, etc. so they'll be ready when the crossover game does release.

So who pay lets say capcom or gaijin when you buy a game with that thirty dollor download code? Also if you think the big three don't get a percentage of profit well I don't know what to tell you. Every industry works this way.
