i know i want Atlus to be bought by someone other than the big three, so that they can be 3rd party and make games for whatever console they like, but my inner fanboy wants Nintendo to buy them, which isn't okay by me. it'd be a good move for nintendo, but i want Atlus to be 3rd party.
Although this seems to be a pretty unsubstantiated rumour and it would be a very atypical gamble of Nintendo, it would make sort of sense. Atlus games are niche, yes, but something Nintendo could use to increase the diversity of their portfolio. Shin Megami Tensei and Persona may not be million sellers but they are cult games, influencial ones that would increase Nintendo brand value and that of its platforms. Aside from Monolith Soft Xeno series, Nintendo does not have a in-house source of Japanese RPGs.
I've been thinking for some months that they have to take a more aggresive stance and if 3rd parties are lacking, they should and could go shopping some big japanese companies like Namco Bandai, Tecmo or Atlus. Since Atlus is in peril of shutting its doors the timing could be perfect. Just don't ever buy SEGA, Nintendo, my inner universe would collapse with that event. Make extensive partnership with them, develop some of their IP on EAD even if possible and vice-versa, but let them be a separate company. The former SEGA fanboy in me couldn't handle that. And forget Western publisher companies, everything worth buying is in Japan (The Western videogame industry exists still?).

This makes sense and would work especially in the Japanese market and even this market since fans of anime and jrpg/Japanese games are basically in thier 2nd generation which for me is an amazing experience And growing ... I never thought this would be possible as a kid ... Anyway definitely a good acquisition if the price is right
Since its going to be an Auction Nintendo needs to present a bid if for no other reason than to ensure that if one of the other two end up getting it they don't get it for cheap....... The one that has the most to win by buying Atlus is MIcrosoft but I really hope they don't
I have to think it will be either Nintendo or a Atlus will stay third party. If Sony or Microsoft were to buy Atlus, would they not just shut down Fire Emblem X Shin Megami Tensei, rendering the whole $30 incentive a waste of money. Nintendo would likely make some action to prevent that from happening.
Just Someloggery
You have the right to disagree with me and the ability to consider anything valid that I say; Please exercise both.
Lets face it. Sony would not be interested. Atlus is not a very successful third party publisher. The highest selling game they have released to date (Demon Souls PS3)has been out for almost four years and hasn't cracked 2 million. The Last of Us sold more in a month. They don't need them. Microsoft doesn't want them. Microsoft will never be popular in Japan and that's Atlus's bread and butter. The west is just icing. Nintendo we be the only interested party do to self admitted lack of resources. How many articles have you read about Team members having to be borrowed to work on other games? Also Atlus has experience with hd shading and programing. Nintendo need more of this. I assume they would let them operate like Monolith soft until they needed to borrow them for other projects. Also look how fast these guys turn out quality 3ds games!!!!!! Nintendo is going to focus primarily on the wii u so their smaller company's like Hal will have to pick up the slack on the 3ds.

If it makes you feel any better, buyouts and mergers take a lot of time to happen, lots of legal work and other things need to happen. Business are treated as ongoing ventures regardless of their financial status. So, even is Microsoft bought them the incentive wouldn't go anywhere, and odds are Atlus would be able to finish developing and selling the games they are contracted to do. Then once any work they are currently contracted to perform is done, they can become a sole console developer if say one of the big Three bought.
So all can rest assured Atlus will continue to do business as is in the near future, say next 6 months to a year, but depending on who wins the auction, a lot could change in the future.
It's Persona 5. It deserves to be on the best hardware available, with the most sales possible. That just happens to be anything but the Wii U and 3DS.
I keep looking at this comment and wonder why you even brought up those factors. From what I can tell, the point of the Persona games is not to set a new graphical standard; It's to provide a robust +80 hour JRPG tied to social game-esque mechanics. JRPGs don't need a load of horsepower to function, especially if they're turn-based. And if we're discussing sales, then the 3DS wouldn't be a bad choice as it's currently having the best sales of the quote-on-quote "Next Gen Systems". Yes, the Xbox One and PS4 have been doing good in pre-order numbers, but I want to see month-long sales before we herald them as anything more than another product.
Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar. Please contact me before using my custom avatar!

@CanisWolfred: I have to question your statement about Persona 5 on the 3DS. It's the highest selling platform this generation (not counting other devices).

besides Persona is now best known as "that reason you still played a PS2 after Ps3's release"

What Would Duane Do? Rynoggery
They better not. I want Persona 5 on anything but the Wii U or 3DS.
If you're trying to argue on objective grounds, cite hardware sales full stop. Your original statement contradicts any such position, leaving your point no stronger than the attacks from Nintendo fans; attacks you surely knew it would incite.
