Pretty much stuff we already know, but interesting nonetheless.

One thing is for sure; if Nintendo does completely take Atlus under its wing, it just might be a game-changer.

I was actually thinking this, but who knows.

Rumor also has it that Nintendo is going to buy the Playstation brand and kick Microsoft in the bootie. Seriously, these rumors are becoming more and more baseless and ridiculous.

I am very certain that Nintendo will take Atlus and treat them better than Microsoft did with Rare ware.(Oh the horrible memory of watching my childhood make Kinect games.)

If Atlus is bought out by Nintendo, I fear that while their game quality might still remain amazing, I feel like they won't have as much creative freedom.

Monolift Soft seems to be doing just fine. If you're thinking of Retro, keep in mind that what they had at first was a complete disaster.

@LzQuacker
Not really. I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did buy Atlus, because they aren't buying it from a parent company anymore, so it's cheaper.
Just make Trauma Center: Surgeon's Warning or something exclusive and more graphic than it ever has before. I think they could utilize Atlus, and now would be a better time than ever.

Also, I don't think anyone is really counting on or expecting this, but it's possible.

@SCAR: I'm referring to the fact that there's basically a rumor for everything these days. For example, there was a rumor that Nintendo was going to buy back Rare. I don't really take rumors seriously anymore because they became less credible over the years thanks to the internet.

Now granted this still could happen. We'll just have to wait and not pay attention to anyone posting these "rumors"

@LzQuacker To be fair the whole buying back Rare thing has been floating around for some time.

In any case, I think this is one of the more possible rumors, if for nothing else other then how close Atlus has been working with Nintendo as of late. Think about it, the last time there was a crossover with a non first party Nintendo game was the advent of the Mario & Sonic Olympic games series, so the fact that Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem are coming together is no small matter.

Well, Nintendo buying back Rare IS actually impossible, because Microsoft doesn't want to do that.
I agree the Rare rumor would be dumb. I'm not even considering this as a rumor as much as a possibility, really. There isn't any info as far as I know that would confirm this, but I was thinking about it anyway.

Eh that's a pretty simplistic rationale; if you buy everything when it's cheap, you can still go broke!

Your meaning was clear, the emphasis just gave a funny impression. lol

I again point to my suggestion that if Nintendo continues to have difficulties with 3rd parties they might as well buy more developers instead.

There's not really any to buy though. Namco, EA, etc. bigger companies can do fine by themselves, so I don't think either company in that situation would see being bought as being viable.

To my understanding, Rare sold itself to Microsoft, then Nintendo sold it's share after that.

I don't think this is gonna happen. Why would Nintendo waste the money to buy a niche developer? I love their games, but Atlus games aren't exactly gonna get Wii Us flying off the shelves. Not to mention Atlus games probably sell better on non-Nintendo consoles (not counting handhelds).

That would be awesome!!! It would have a backlash in the gaming community, though. Maybe even larger than bayonetta 2. The thing is a lot of journalist websites: screwattack, ign, etc seem to be enthralled by Sony and ps4. Sony could get away with buying Atlus because, as of now , they are the apple of gaming journalist's eyes. But if Nintendo bought Atlus, gaming journqlists would perceive it as greedy. I hope that Nintendo buys Atlus, cuz my. Wii u is really dusty. Another thing, the video at the top was made by reviewtechusa. He's top notch in gaming news. He lacks bias. Dude you beat me to posting this thread!

But yeah, this would be great. The more "hardcore" games can be developed by Atlus, like Persona or Metroid while Retro could develop titles like Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze or Kirby.

Makes sense. It's pretty much already exclusive with Shin Megami Tensei.

Honestly, I just don't see this being a good fit, the more I think about it. Nintendo's philosophies just don't mesh with a niche developer/publisher like Atlus. Nintendo is too restrictive, they don't like selling their games in limited quantities, they don't necessarily like pre-order bonuses, and they don't like publishing what won't be at least be a modest success. They prefer to release games that everyone can play, with larger budgets and larger sales. They don't take the risks Atlus takes. So for the love of the Gods, please don't let this be true!
