Topic: Questions as a new Wii U owner

Posts 1 to 18 of 18

Hi, I'm getting a Wii U next week as their are more games I like on it rather than Xbox & PS4, and I have some questions:
1: How do I link my ID from my 3DS to the Wii U?
2: What SNES games are in the VC?
3: How long does it take to set up the console?
4: Does the gamepad come with charger as well as if I bought a pro controller too?
5: If you could only have 5 games for your Wii U, what would they be?
Thank you for your help.

1. When it asks you to create an NNID, select to use the one that already exists on your 3DS.
2. Street Fighter, New Horizons, EarthBound, Castlevania, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, etc.
3. It will ask you to update the first time you turn it on. That will take anywhere from 1-3 hours(most likely), depending on your internet connection.
4. The GamePad and Pro controller should come with their own chargers
5. If I chose 5 games right now, I would choose:

1. Choose 1 platformer game such as Mario, DK, or Rayman
2. Tekken or Injustice(probably Injustice)
3. Splintercell or Deus Ex(prpbably Splintercell)
4. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
5. Buy the Wii Sports Club sports and Wii Fit U

I just figure one game from each genre would suffice. Mario Kart 8 is coming out soon, so I wouldn't really recommend any racing games besides that, for the time being. Also, Injustice may be more worthwhile, because Tekken generally gets a new entry sooner than Injustice ever will. Besides that, there's plenty to choose from. You could also substitute a $60 game with a handful of indie or VC games.

EDIT: Also, the Ubisoft and WB games recently got price cuts, so those might be something to consider.

1. Linking your 3DS Nintendo ID to your new Wii U
2. List of SNES games on VC (going by your location listed as UK)
3. A few minutes to set up, then updates will vary greatly depending on your internet connection and when your console was shipped.
4. Yup, there's an AC charger right in the box.
5. That are out now? Wind Waker HD, Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Resident Evil: Revelations 3D, and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

1. IIRC, I did by checking into the 3DS Miiverse for the first time, but I had a Wii U account before the change so I don't know how it works in reverse?
2. The games anyone cares about would be Super Mario World, Super Metroid, F-Zero, Earthbound, Megaman X and Super Castlevania IV (which to be fair, is basically entirely must-own SNES titles right there). Not sure about any others. I think I remember reading something about Super Punch out, LTTP and Contra 3. And the GBA version of Yoshi's Island is coming out instead.
3. Took me an hour or an hour and a half to go from unboxing to playing Nintendo Land. Might take a bit longer with the many updates since then...
4. Gamepad does come with a charger and if theré's other ways to charge it, I've never used them.
5. Ignoring Nintendo Land and anything else I got free
-Wonderful 101
-Rayman Legends
-Deus Ex: Human Revolution
-Pikmin 3
-Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

though keep in mind that Wind Waker would replace one of these (I guess Pikmin) if I didn't already own the GCN version of Wind Waker

Scar's idea to have an emphasis on variety is risky but appreciated

@KKSlider5552000
I just figure one of Nintendo's platformers is enough for a new Wii U owner. I would personally choose NSMB.U over 3D World, but I would probably choose DK over either of those, so ya... Also, Monster Hunter might not be your thing. The online and custom options that effects your gameplay is the most apparent in that game.

I definitely agree with the WWHD and Pikmin 3 choice, although it's a difficult one. Pikmin 3 has multiplayer, so maybe...

Not true, as of now. The original update when the system launched was huge and took forever, but newer consoles ship with the update (and many subsequent ones) already installed.

IIRC if the console you buy shipped after the latest update launched then it'll have that update installed in the system.

If you could only have 5 games for your Wii U, what would they be?

Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut.

(Yeah that's six games instead of five but IDGAF)

Most of your questions were answered. But with the five games i would recommend, they would be ZombiU, Monster Hunter, Donkey kong tropical freeze, Batman Arkham origins, and Nba 2k13. Playing basketball off tv has been a revelation. Also, since this thing is backwards compatible, add in Resident Evil 4, and Sin and Punishment.

Seems that the community has answered most of your questions. As for 5 recommendations
Super Mario 3D World, The Wonderful 101, Lego City Undercover, Rayman Legends and either Splinter Cell : Blackist, Deus Ex or Batman : Arkham City.

1. Rayman Legends (will keep you occupied for a long time especially with online, and it gets difficult later in the game)
2. Super Mario 3D World (not too short, gets difficult near the end. WAY better than NSMB:U)
3. Pikmin 3 (very fun, just short. Getting 100% on the challenge mode levels will take a while, though)
4. Wind Waker HD (very long, just somewhat easy)
5. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (only at the bottom because I haven't beaten it yet, so I can't make a fair assessment. Similar to Rayman Legends, but I had a better first impression with Rayman)

Also, I didn't have to update my Wii U when I got it in March of last year. I was making Miis and playing Nintendo Land just after I set it up. I think all Wii Us come with the latest updates now (unless you need an update for the game you're playing, of course)

That's a tough one as there's a nice selection of retail releases and eshop games; I'll assume you mean retail releases.

Obviously these lists are down to taste and mine are fairly diverse:

1 Super Mario 3D World
2 Need for Speed U
3 Ninja Gaiden 3 (I haven't played Deus Ex yet, but that might displace it)
4 Game & Wario (depends on if you will be doing multiplayer; you like the odd party/mini-game)
5 Pikmin 3

1. Super Mario 3D World
2. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
3-4. Depending on which system bundle you pick up, Nintendo Land, New Super Mario Bros. U, and/or Wind Waker
5. Rayman Legends

The five games I (emphasis on I) would choose:

Super Mario 3D World
The Wonderful 101
Pikmin 3
Lego City Undercover
DK Tropical Freeze

You will then realize that you will need more than 5 games, and there is plenty to choose from. And congrats on your future purchase.

I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.

Remember that there are many SNES games available on the the Wii Shop through Wii mode. They are still playable with the Gamepad, only a separate controller is required.

Seeing that u are a sonic fan, I really enjoyed sonic & All-stars transformed. It's cheap and a worthy racing game.
