Topic: Public Wii U demo's?

I had the pleasure of stopping by local GameStop, and they had the demo unit. Their particular unit had only one playable demo, Rayman Legends. The game is pretty awesome. Of course, I really enjoyed the first one so naturally, I would like this one. I was somewhat disappointed that I didn't have a chance at playing ZombiU. That seems to be the game everyone is raving about.

I completely agree. The rocking level was extremely funny.

So do all the demo stations just have Rayman Legends? That's all I've heard anyone mention.

Anyways, I got to try the thing out last night and loved it. Once again, the only playable demo was Rayman Legends (which I felt didn't give the biggest example of the gamepad other than the second half of the first level). Still, the graphics were breathtaking, I have no doubt it easily overpowers the current gen systems. The controller was comfortable, lighter than it looks and easy to use. Well, it was awkward when I had to use the motion control but that could just be the fact that it was on a cord for the demo kiosk. I didn't get much time to observe the gamepad's graphics but from what I saw it looked nice. Touch screen was responsive as well as the motion controls.

As for Rayman... I will admit Castle Rock was the best of the two levels, which disappointed me because it didn't utilize the gamepad features. There's something about platforming to epic rock music, though. This definitely will be a day 1 purchase (whenever that day may be).

Once again, it would have been nice to have one or two demos that are actual launch games. I hope they update it with more demos or something.

My local GS has one set up! But the TV screen was off...? So all I can say is that the game pad is bigger than I though, but upon holding it, was surprisingly light compared to its size. The screen looks pretty and crisp. The buttons were smooth as well.
That's all I can really say.

Do I even play?
What's a "gamer" anyway? POKÉMON!

Well, Best buy just become placed on my "most hated retail chain" list at the top.

I went to try the wii u there, after having fun at gamestop, and there wasn't one.

But here's the stupidest thing. The guy I was asking if they had any preorders kept saying this stupid thing that "Wii U preorders are sold out, there will be no more shipments until september 2013", even though I told him that wouldn't make any sense.

He then claimed that "Nintendo sent it to us in a letter saying that".

When I went to try doing their nintendo zone to calm myself down, IT WAS DOWN.

What did the guy say this time? "Best buy connect is available, there is no such thing as a nintendo zone."

THEN WHY WAS THERE ONE FOR THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF?

So yeah, Best buy is NOT a good idea to demo wii U. Do Gamestop instead.

I did it at Best Buy. Best Buy owns the crap out of GameStop. You just ran into a dumbass employee.

Price Match + Customer Service + Better sales makes me a happy gamer (although Amazon, eBay and ocassionally other store offer a nice variety). I've run into far more idiotic employees at GS then any other gaming store (though when they make mistakes, it's awesome. $7 MK7 and $25 NSMB2)

No demos at the Best Buy here, but I did find and play Rayman at GameStop! I can confirm that Kansas has the Wii U!

I went to my local Gamestop to pay for the rest of my pre-order, and they had a demo unit sitting there with no one playing it. So, I checked it out. Like everyone else said, it only had the Rayman Legends demo on it, but even that was very nice, as I got to see how clear and smooth everything was. It played rather well too. Even the Gamepad, while a bit bigger than I expected, handled quite well. It was a little uncomfortable to hold, but that's because it was tethered by a wire that didn't allow much freedom, especially with how short that wire was.

For the 10 or so minutes I played it, I very much enjoyed it. Just 16 more days....

As a whole, GS is a good company. It's just that in most places there are a lot of poorly-owned GS stores. Here in Iowa, there is hardly a bad one here!

Just got back from pre-ordering NSMBU and Zombie U from the local Gamestop and they had one there........ But some chick was hogging it up from the time I arrived there to the time I left, which was about a total of 20-25 minutes.

I really didn't have time to wait around on her, so I left. I tried to throw a hint and said "yeah, I haven't played one yet.........................................".

Their trade-in values usually suck compared to just selling it on eBay, but I'm not complaining since I don't trade in stuff.
The treatment of game boxes there is complete suckage, with the plethora of stickers on every side of the box.
They've been known to scam users before as a whole company (could link some articles in a bit)
And then there are the problems that go from store to store. Dumb or unknowledgable employees (rather common), jackass employees (also rather common), poor maintaining of the store, THE SMELL

GS has bad reviews from consumers and employees alike, and the amount of each implies that its more of a company-wide thing, not just "alot of poorly owned stores".

Do I even play?

Just tried out the system and Rayman Legends demo today. Fantastic game! However I can't help but wish that the buttons (start and select especially) were more recessed and less squishy.

Sorry to hear that. There are four of them where I live and two are so-so and two are exceptional.

My local Best Buy had the same Demo Station. The first day I found out they had it setup there was someone playing it for way too long for me to check it out my self. I don't blame the guy, because it was so awesome!

I had a chance to check it out a couple days afterward and found it so much fun! I had a friend with me and he thought the game selection and layout was the final OS for the system and I had to explain to him its the demo software, not the actual OS. It definitely concerned me that he thought that because I wonder how many others thought the very same thing. I hope the average consumer understands its a Demo kiosk!

One thing I noticed with the Gamepad at Best Buy was the "screen-swap" button was just a placer, not an actual button. The Gamepad felt really good in my hands as well; anyone else like the weight and feel of the controller?

Trade in values for games like the pokemon games are actually very good. 8-10 dollars each. And the game boxes aren't hardly abused at all in my store, if ever. They take out a sealed copy from under the counter every time I ask to buy a game new.

I think the reason people unfairly hate gamestop is due to the fact that anyone can manage one and they don't really get watched by the administration. Therefore if it's a dumb manager, it's not a good store. (I once was in a bad gamestop where they literally allowed you to get on a preorder wait list for games that didn't exist that they thought would exist later. Some of the silly examples include MW4, Pokemon scarlet, New Super Mario bros 3, Animal crossing wii U, ETC. Never went to that store again)

I just ran into a demo at Target this morning. The controller is way bigger, yet way lighter than I expected. There were nothing but videos, no playable demos.

The Aussie Wii U events are running this week (starting today - Nov 5th).
I went over to the Perth Cultural Centre - which to be honest, I'd never heard of until this event... shows how cultured I am - and had a quick squizz at the display.
When I arrived at the amphitheatre from the direction of the Art Gallery, the display tent and giant screen and lack of general buzz outside the tent left me feeling that it was stuck in the middle of nowhere. This was at around 3:30 to 4:00 and I truly expected not to be able to get near it for all of the private school kids checking it out. Weather in Perth has been a bit unpredictable over the last couple of days so that may also be a contributing factor.

That's not to say there wasn't any activity inside the tent on the five Wii U units but there wasn't a scramble to have a go. I didn't see any 3DS on display despite the 3DS logo outside the tent but I may have walked straight past 'em.

The only titles on display today were three Nintendo Land - possibly full version - and a pre-release demo of SML Wii U and Scribblenauts on the remaining units.
Pretty impressed with the general feel of the Gamepad - it's light but doesn't feel cheap. The display is good and using the stylus (Scribblenauts) left with with a sense of holding half an up-sized DSi XL that had built-in analog sticks
Would like to have had a prod and play with the Wii U menu and had a good look at the hardware but it seems the game demoing with the Gamepad and the Asynchronous gaming were the focus.

I was going to suggest that the effort was weak in comparison to what I've seen on EweChoob but on reflection I think it's the location. Cultural centre it might be but it is literally the wrong side of the tracks in Perth for the general public who might want to nip on and check it out during lunch-time or on the way home from work.
If it had been set up in Forrest Chase (difficult due to renovations) or Murray Street Mall outside the Commonwealth Bank there would be plenty of pedestrian traffic and most stores likely to stock the Wii U (for blood-rush pre-orders) are with 200m as opposed to two to three times that from the current location.

Maybe it'll get better attention as the week progresses or maybe unlike me, most who've pre-ordered can wait the three and a bit weeks until their Wii Us arrive and don't need to go and have a look.
