This was all just a ploy to generate some interest in the game. I don't fault them for it. You know the old saying? "Any publicity is good publicity." Unfortunately, this game was not just know for the controversy surrounding it. It was also know as a not so superior game. Personally, I enjoyed Sewer Shark more than Night Trap. I think they would be better off doing a remake than a restore. And, there was also a version of this game with better quality video on the 3DO, I think. So, they may be using that footage instead of "cleaning up" the Sega CD footage.

The figures are nice and all, but I am interested in game integration. It is easy to see how these will play out with Smash Brothers, but how is it going to play out in Mario Kart 8 or Toad. I think that will go a long way in determining how successful this will be.

It has always floored me how a game can be great, and a movie about said game can be so bad. In the right hands, any franchise should thrive. I have always thought Skylanders would be more effective on the small screen.

The original is good, but I thought the N64 was where the series really shined. We played that thing for hours in college. It is hard to revisit games like this. It's different going back and playing through Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Kart innovated for its time, but it has been built on from there. I think you have to keep things like that in mind.

By now, most people have seen the Nintendo patten that was released this week that looked like a handheld with interchangeable pieces like d pads or analog sticks. It could be a 3DS with those capabilities. That would bring a resurgence in Kid Icarus Uprising.

Remember, we have also been promised the ability to use two game pads. We have yet to see this so it could be something along those lines. I cannot imagine it being any more than that.

I understand some people have their issues with GameStop. I am lucky enough to have an excellent one in my town. It is very well managed. They know their stuff most of the time.

I think in the business world this means going lean. You trim what you don't need, now. This helps you through the first round of a bad market. Most retailers do this in one form or another. For instance, a large store like Walmart might trim employee's hours just after the busy Christmas season. Other companies like GameStop in this case close stores that are not performing. I can guarantee that the stores that close are all in the red. I am sorry for the people who lose their jobs, but unfortunately, that is the nature of this economic beast we have created.

I think this is a step in the right direction. It would be great if they made new course holes available more. I think it would be great knowing that a title would add new content regularly. They could use the business model that Spin the Bottle uses. As you add more, early adopters get it for free, but the price slightly increases for new players.

I understand the disappointment from a business prospective. This is probably not a game I was going to get anyway. If I own a PS4 or X1, I probably won't pick it up either. The truth is, there isn't a shred of difference from Arkham Asylum to Arkham City. The games follow basically the same pattern.

I bought Asylum on the PS3 , and I have City for the Wii U. I honestly like the on the fly part of the Wii U, but ultimately, I got rather bored with the game story itself. I'm sorry that it's not coming for all of those fans.

I agree with a lot on here about the Wii U basically being a first party machine. I do think they would find some success in taking a we are a family console approach. Instead of trying to be all things to all gamers. I'd say push the family nature. Advertise like heck on Disney and Nickelodeon. Try to get second parties working on IP's that are gathering dust. Be kind to indies.

I think if they do that it will get them through this generation of consoles, albeit limping. They need to make a high octane system that will compete. Make it more traditional if you have to. Incorporate things like the gamepad as an add on. Start a archive subscription service. Then, I think they can get back on track.

fortius54 commented on Investor Wants Nintendo To Create Mobile Title...:

@BlackStar9000 I like those ideas. One, they will be exposing the characters to a new medium. Two, it opens up a new stream of income without cannibalizing the games these characters were built on. They could look at some of the old Game & Watch titles, update the graphics, and put them all on iOS or tablets. A second party could do any of this, and they wouldn't have to tie up any of their manpower.

There is a lot they can do, but in the end, these are their properties. The will ultimately do what they want. I will except it either way. I love my Wii U. I understand that there is not an over abundance of quality third party titles, but the first party stuff is spot on. There has been enough of that coupled with Infinity and Skylanders to keep my children and myself entertained. It also seems to be picking up plenty of steam from the Indie side.

fortius54 commented on Investor Wants Nintendo To Create Mobile Title...:

I understand Nintendo's position on why they do not want to go mobile. I for one don't want to play a traditional Mario game with virtual buttons. In the end, I think it would do more harm than good. The idea of having a loyal customer pay for a guy to go a little higher is utterly ridiculous. It should be enough to lose that idiot his job.

I can also however see why these investors are wanting to see mobile Nintendo happen. There is a lot of money in it, and it is not going away anytime soon. If Nintendo were to choose to do this, the experience would need to be unique to the mobile experience much like Sonic Dash. I think the Wii Play or the Wii Party type games would work. They are short mini experiences that really aren't worth more than a couple of bucks. So I say, if they do go mobile, they need to completely separate those games from their current library of games.

From a profitability standpoint, I think the figures are the way to go. I'll be honest. We have Infinity, and everything is great about except for the blind pack power discs. I hate those things. I love the concept, but I hate the fact that there are so few of those stupid things in each series that you get countless double. At $5 per pack, that can be infuriating.

@adamical I agree completely with you. Imagine playing this online with someone else. It would be a gold mine. When they originally announced built in NFC technology, I thought that Pokemon was what they were bringing, and they did. However, they completely struck out. They could announce this at E3, and it would steal the show. Deal is they already have hundreds of characters to work with.

Activision might want to be careful with this property. I love Skylanders, but they could be in danger of becoming to gimmicky. Swap Force characters have already taxed the limit to what I am willing to pay, and I have at the moment at least one version of he characters from Adventure and Giants.

I don't think the general public would appreciate having to buy yet another portal. I don't think a $17 vehicle on top of the regular figures is something the public wants to see either.

I have to say I was disappointed with yesterday as well. I think if they are out to fix the Wii U problem, they didn't do a very good job. I will agree it was heavy on 3DS. Of course, Nintendo did say to the shareholders that 3DS was going to drive profits. Honestly, I think that entire direct was for the benefit of the shareholders.

If they truly do want to turn the fortunes of the Wii U arouond, I would suggest they blow everyone's doors off at the E3. If they are not working on multiple first party games they better start. Don't get me wrong, I love the Wii U. I will continue to buy first party, and it will be my go to console for all the family games. However, it would be nice for others to jump on board.

I don't know what to say about he Direct. Everything they showed looked amazing, but outside of "X", it really wasn't anything we haven't seen before. NES Mix 2 seems like a money grab to me. This was heavy on the 3DS.

I just don't think Nintendo delivered on this one. To be a 40 minute show, I don't think they hit what they were aiming at. Of course, this is just two weeks after the numbers, and it may have been more of a showcase for theshareholders than the consumers. The only bad thing is we have to most likely wait until E3.

They had better knock everyone's socks off at E3 this year. I guess there could be an outside possibility of the licensing announcements at the upcoming Toy Fair. I don't know I would say color me disappointed on this Direct.

@antipop621 I completely agree with you on this one. Out of all the licensing Sega has done with Sonic, comics have been the most successful. It would be nothing for Archie Comics to take these IPs and run with them.

Megaman from Archie is the only thing we get right now to quench our thirst for the Blue Bomber. I think this is an excellent idea. If Nintendo wants to increase the exposure of their IPs especially in the west, they need to do this immediately.

@ACK I guess I am having a hard time understanding this post. You are ashamed of the community in one post, but then, you tell me that if I do not like opinions to go back to playing games. Those in the community are just expressing their opinions. Why should we then be ashamed?

Most comments I make on this site are relegated to the light-hearted entertainment variety. I wished all did that. I wished all could set aside political or social differences and just enjoy the game for what it is...a game. That is basically what I am trying to get at.

I don't care if the hero is a woman, man, hedgehog, or marble. I just want big dumb fun. That is all I am in it for. Please leave your political views at the door. On the flip side, I don't want someone fired until they have proving to me they can't do what I'm asking.

EA's problems with the Wii U are not anyone's fault but EA's. They have not even come close to supporting the Wii U like they said they would, and that started from the beginning. By porting over the previous years inferior mainstays like Madden and FIFA, they did not exactly get off on the right foot.

There is no doubt that they could use a decent marketing push. I think that should leverage the family with the marketing. You are not goin to ever have a Wii U game rated M that is going to be a huge seller on the system. Other need to embrace the fact that they will be a family system, and market to that. I think that is what they are doing for the most part. They just need to do more of it.

fortius54 commented on Talking Point: Marketing Wii U to the Masses:

I completely agree. They have to have a National Ad Campaign starting last week. It needs to be along the same lines as their "Now Your Playing With Power!" Campaign. The deal is if they want the casual gamer to purchase, they need to step out of the normal places where you find gamers. I know a lot of people on here hated the " I am not a gamer" ads they did with the girl from Glee and Gabbie Douglas. However, the 3DS is killing it right now. It was not designed for you or me. The same thing needs to be done for the Wii U.

I think ultimately, I would like it if Nintendo and I guess the fans to some extent recognize the fact Nintendo doesn't have to be in competition with Sony and Microsoft. I thought that was the position they were trying to take until Reggie kind of mouthed off. I have a PS3 and a Wii U. I had a PS3 and a Wii before that. The Nintendo games are so distinctly different than what you might play on the other systems that it would not be a hard sell.

Don't get me wrong. You would certainly have to try to sell it which is another area that I feel Nintendo has grossly under utilized. The Wii U commercials did not start coming out until about a week before the console launched. They have little to no advertising outside of Directs for games. At e heir of their popularity, you were always seeing the "Now You're Playing with Power" ads, and that was before we had whole stations dedicated to nothing but children's entertainment.

@unrandomsam I understand where you are coming from. I know that fans aren't the only ones to blame. I do not usually get games on the initial release with the exception of a preorder exclusive I can't live without. From the post, it just amazes me that we always seem to chase our tails on one thing or the other, and again, I know I am as much to blame as any one.

Just a few days ago, one of the posters made a statement on these comments that Nintendo needed new IPs for them to start taking back market share. I just found it humorous that this is a new IP, and it is not selling much. I paralleled this with the argument concerning third parties, but I was also sure to blame third parties because they do it as well.

For instance,Bethesda comes out this week and says well it is Nintendo's fault that we do not make games for their system because they didn't work close enough with or whatever this weeks excuse is. However, I can almost bet my Wii U that their big idea would have been to bring out a Wii U version of Skyrim.

fortius54

fortius54 commented on The Wii U Continues to Struggle in Japanese Ch...:

@ScroogeMcLz I agree completely. People get on here and talk about needing new IPs, and when they get one, they do not support it. It was just a week or two ago that people could not understand why they only shipped 30,000 units. The gaming community on occasion reminds me a lot of the comic book community. No offense to us Nintendo fans and I count myself in this, but we want more third party developers. However, we do not do a good job of aupporting third party titles. Of course, third party developers need to do better than porting old games. It gets frustrating.
