The Aussie Wii U events are running this week (starting today - Nov 5th).
I went over to the Perth Cultural Centre - which to be honest, I'd never heard of until this event... shows how cultured I am :) - and had a quick squizz at the display.
When I arrived at the amphitheatre from the direction of the Art Gallery, the display tent and giant screen and lack of general buzz outside the tent left me feeling that it was stuck in the middle of nowhere. This was at around 3:30 to 4:00 and I truly expected not to be able to get near it for all of the private school kids checking it out. Weather in Perth has been a bit unpredictable over the last couple of days so that may also be a contributing factor.

That's not to say there wasn't any activity inside the tent on the five Wii U units but there wasn't a scramble to have a go. I didn't see any 3DS on display despite the 3DS logo outside the tent but I may have walked straight past 'em.

The only titles on display today were three Nintendo Land - possibly full version - and a pre-release demo of SML Wii U and Scribblenauts on the remaining units.
Pretty impressed with the general feel of the Gamepad - it's light but doesn't feel cheap. The display is good and using the stylus (Scribblenauts) left with with a sense of holding half an up-sized DSi XL that had built-in analog sticks :)
Would like to have had a prod and play with the Wii U menu and had a good look at the hardware but it seems the game demoing with the Gamepad and the Asynchronous gaming were the focus.

I was going to suggest that the effort was weak in comparison to what I've seen on EweChoob but on reflection I think it's the location. Cultural centre it might be but it is literally the wrong side of the tracks in Perth for the general public who might want to nip on and check it out during lunch-time or on the way home from work.
If it had been set up in Forrest Chase (difficult due to renovations) or Murray Street Mall outside the Commonwealth Bank there would be plenty of pedestrian traffic and most stores likely to stock the Wii U (for blood-rush pre-orders) are with 200m as opposed to two to three times that from the current location.

Maybe it'll get better attention as the week progresses or maybe unlike me, most who've pre-ordered can wait the three and a bit weeks until their Wii Us arrive and don't need to go and have a look.:)

I played Rayman Legends at my GameStop.
I initially hated the feel of the GamePad. I love it now, though. It has a glossy top, but a matte bottom. I hated it at first because I bought a gimp GCN controller (styled to look like a Wii Classic Controller Pro) that had the same finish (glossy top, matte bottom). It is extremely light and I love the feel of the buttons. The ZL and ZR buttons are similar to those on the Circle Pad Pro. Overall, I liked the Rayman Demo, but was more excited to hold the GamePad.
The touch screen felt great as did the analog sticks. The button placement felt natural and comfortable as did the rest of the buttons. Width-wise, it felt bigger than I imagined while length-wise it was comfortably smaller.

All in all, I am greatly amazed with the GamePad and cannot wait until Nov. 18. Wii U forever!

BTW, I did take pictures, but I'm voice-chatting on Pokemon White with my girlfriend, so I can't upload them now.

Well I went to my Target today and they had the Wii U demo set up. They didnt have a game on it :( but I got to hold the Wii U controller in my hand and I have to say it didnt feel as uncomfortable or heavy in my hands as I though it would. Hopefully next time they will have some games going.

My guess is, based on the news of the DAy 1 Update for the Wii U, the demo stations will get the update along with new demos on or around launch. Hopefully this also means the home consoles will get all the demos the store consoles get. At least, I hope so; even if I'll have a couple games right off the bat, I wouldn't mind demos of upcoming games.

I tried it out at a Gamestop. It feels really nice. Nice and light, and the thing was smaller then I expected.

Best thread ever

Generally speaking, it felt as long as I expected, but not as tall as I expected, so it was ultimately smaller than what I expected. It's quite wide. Ever mess around with a Microsoft Surface? It's sort of like that.

I meant the console itself, from tray to rear

It looked like a Wii with curved edges.
