Um,No,They don't...If they did,GCN Games would be on Wii U VC,GBA Games would be on 3DS VC,Animal Crossing: New Leaf would have been out WAY EARLIER,EarthBound on Wii U VC would have been out WAY EARLIER,And There would be no Region Locking. Explain how they "Listen".
All I got to say is, they act after the fact most of the time. @DeviousCrossing
How can you be mad about AC:NL coming out later everywhere else other than Japan? They released the game ASAP over there, then they translated it ASAP after that.
Nintendo delaying the game in EU and US would have been the type of move Ubisoft just pulled with Rayman Legends, except their business is run different anyway.
Region locking also has to do with localization. A game like Animal Crossing probably would have never made it on the EU/US side if there wasn't region locking.
It would have been just one of those niche titles stuck in Japan that few people would have imported and mainly not cared about if Nintendo didn't strongly localize the game, which has gone hand and hand long before this generation on multiple consoles besides Nintendo.
The Wii U OS isn't even finished which will no doubt put many complaints to rest. They listen. It is often after the fact, but it does eventually happen for the most part.
The Wii VC is packed with tons of games, but people still complain.
They were just saving Earthbound for a "rainy day", and GCN along with the GBA will probably show up in a similar fashion as this.
Patience is a virtue.

@SCAR392 How would Animal Crossing had stayed in Japan because of region locking? That doesn't make any sense at all. Localization exists regardless of whether a system is region locked. Just look at all of Nintendo's portables up until recently (of which an Animal Crossing game was a part of).
Also, people have good reason to complain when Nintendo's direct competition has policies in place that are superior to Nintendo's. Sony has a ton of PS1 games on PSN that can be unified across one account, nearly all of which are much cheaper than games on the VC. Plus, because of that unification, you can play the same game across multiple systems. Then there's the online stuff, which frankly just isn't up to par with Microsoft and Sony. The lack of friend invites to games doesn't make a lick of sense.
If Nintendo really listened and took some of the complaints of fans to heart, they would have set up the Wii U OS in the first place to address such (legitimate) complaints.

Nintendo was obviously around before PS. Te consoles themselves were localized.
The NES, SNES, and even the N64 were physically different in each region. Obviously that is not the case this generation, or the last, but region locking has been important.
The NES, Genesis, SNES, etc. would have never made it to the US or EU if region locking practices would have never taken place.
Sony was riding along with other things that were already in place. PS1 and 2 were both region locked.
As for online, I think it can be important, but I was never one for the online scene anyway. When I look at online gaming and interface, I was living perfectly fine before any of that stuff was the norm. Even before Xbox Live, before Sega Net.
That's why this sort of thing isn't really complaint worthy, at least for me, anyway.

by that logic, M$ also listens Killer Instinct, remember?
a note to OP: no company as big as M$ or Nintendo will listen to fans unless they can make a profit. that's the only reason why Earthbound is being released on VC, and the only reason Double Helix is making a KI game: money. they only listen to your wallets. it's also the only reason the X1 policies are gone: people voted with their wallets. that's all companies care about. nintendo listens just about as much as any other company does.

I don't think you realize why I bring up region locking. It'd make sense, since I haven't really explained it.
I completely agree that Nintendo had to incorporate region locking in its systems back then. Back then, NOA, NOE and the like operated mostly as independent business, what with their own separate budgets and own operating structure in regards to what it had to do, like advertising, manufacturing, etc., at which point they'd report back to the head office. Because of that budget, they'd need to region lock to secure the need to get more money into the budget. In other words, to protect from competing with themselves. Actually, they still do that. So obviously, it'd make sense to have region locking.
The thing is, if you need region locking, it shows how poorly prepared you are as a business for the current games market. Global business are more and more incorporating a centralized model, where its pretty much one market across the globe. It makes things remarkably more efficient, since so many decisions are made at the focal point at the head of the business. Not so with the old model. Just look at the success Apple has had with the model, and how so many companies have followed suit, as proof of concept.
When you have one or two core markets across the globe, you don't really need region locking anymore. The fact that Nintendo has it in place is evident that their success as a business won't be as good as it could be, which bothers me greatly. I want them to succeed.

I agree for the most part, but there are other ways to do similar things.
Cloud and content accounts for example. If iPhone just ket you use SD cards, what would be the point of the cloud? The only extra step Cloud does for you is switching out SD cards.
When you have a more flexible memory format, cloud doesn't make much sense being used to hold data over a network, especially Apple's.
Same thing with accounts. Accounts benefit from Cloud, but not in the sense that you should just dump all your data online.
Xbox One uses Cloud to get rid of host based server structure, and connect users to their account. That has nothing to do with the data associated with an account.
It may seem like I'm going off on a tangent, but there are plenty more factors than, "they do this, they do that".
The way you do things operate is just as important as the operation itself.
I'm thinking Nintendo will allow out harddrives to be more accessible. I could technically plug-in my ext. HDD to another Wii U console, and log into my NNID to authorize use of the ext. HDD.
This is technically a better way to do things wothout requiring a network, while still having the same affect.
The Wii U OS isn't finished, and there's still plenty of time before Nintendo has to show that Wii U can match anything the other companies have.
8th gen machines compete/compare to 8th gen machines.

@SCAR392: I think you're equating something good happening almost at random to a big corporation taking a proactive stance regarding goods, features, and services for which their fanbase clamors daily. I could just as easily claim that my pencil helps me to find lost items on the ground every time I drop it... just because I might see a penny or a cheeto once in a while as I reach for my fallen pencil is not a reward for any sort of patience with my pencil, nor is it proof that my pencil has listened to my pleas for it to find me money and food.
You can say 'patience is a virtue' until you're blue in the face, but you'll only be proven right should Nintendo make the choice themselves, which is almost a random occurrence nowadays. you can say things will 'probably' show up, which is actually the perfect thing to say in this sort of situation — if it hits, you can claim you said it would be so, and if it doesn't, well it's not like you claimed it would, did you? in no way is them giving us something cool once in a while proof that they in fact 'listen' to anything their fans have asked for.

Well, they could have just released Super Mario RPG or something else. They knew people wanted Earthbound, and they gave it to us at an assumingly convenient time.
They make these old games look like they just came out yesterday, but people have been bugging them for it for years.
Hell, I wanted a Starfox and F-Zero on Wii quite a bit after playing the GCN titles. 7-8 years later, I'm not complaining.
It's none of my business what Nintendo does. I'm not going to ask them for more than what they are currently doing.
If I really disliked what Nintendo was doing, I'd probably just go PS and never even go on a Nintendo site as regularly as I do.
I like what Nintendo does, but I won't ask any more than that.

Nintendo listened to their closest fans in Japan who decided actual story in Paper Mario didn't matter, thus Sticker Star.
Xenoblade wouldn't have sold well if it wasn't for the controversy (much as I hate to admit this).
F-Zero would sell 1 million at most (and even that I doubt), barring some INCREDIBLY good and expensive marketing. NSMBU has already sold twice that much.
/complicated issue, use your brain
the Earthbound thing taking so long was really stupid though if there really wasn't copyright issues
the Earthbound thing taking so long was really stupid though if there really wasn't copyright issues
A Wii U costs twice as much an Earthbound cartridge, so they were probably just waiting until the eBay prices were so ridiculous, that you might as well buy a new console(to play the game).
I think they'll get rid of region locking eventually.
If they do, you probably still won't be able to access an eShop from another region. You'll have to import a physical copy if you want a game from another region.
If you buy something off an online store that isn't supported in your region, like PS games on PS3(by changing you region in the settings), they can't take blame for any misunderstood features or support.
Nintendo has TV services and other things in Japan that people in the U.S. don't have.
It's ridiculous to suggest that services exclusive in Japan are kept away from America or EU because of region locking. Our equivalent of those things is Netflix and such, but people always want what they already have, plus what the other people have for whatever reason.
Xbox 360 is localized in Japan, and hardly anyone cares about it anyway.
