Ok so I sold my Wii U about 3 - 4 months ago for more than what I actually paid for it (RESULT) as there was just noting out for it and the games I did like I had completed. Am a sucker for kart games and with Mario Kart coming soon I actually have a chance to get a Wii U again extremely cheap. A friend of mine is getting rid of his basic model and has offered me it for £100. No games just the console gamepad and cables.

So if I where to get it I would get ZombiU back as I enjoyed it. Also probably Walking Dead (it got bad reviews but I still want to try it). Sniper Elite v2 even though it is a shoddy port. Mario Kart when it is released. The other Nintendo exclusives am not interested in as I can't stand Mario. I did have a quick go of Wind Waker and it was ok so I may pick that up as well.

But what is instore 3rd party wise for the Wii U in 2014? So far the only 3rd party titles I know is Watch Dogs but I will be getting that for PS4. Any other titles? Is thief coming to Wii U as I could see that making use of the gamepad well.

Doesn't sound like the system is for you friend. Also, pretty simple to see what is available by looking at any myriad of websites, be it IGN, Nintendo's, almost any retailer.

Things are basically the same as they were 3-4 months ago, except some more games came out. I don't really know what you expect, bro. There's hardly any games for ANY of the 8th gen game consoles.

It's a waiting game, and Wii U is not alone in the "lack of games" debate.

That being said, the Wii U's been out for twice as long. And while it's not alone in the lack of games debate, it IS alone in the lack of third party games debate, which is what the OP is looking for.

Being out one year early without 3rd party support has nothing to do with interest in 3rd party support, though. 3rd parties weren't planning on supporting Nintendo's system, regardless, otherwise they(besides Ubisoft and partially Activision) would have put 8th gen games on the system a year ago.

All the systems are out now, so now 3rd parties won't have to target Wii U all by itself. 3rd parties aren't willing to support Wii U without other systems being in the mix. That's completely fine and has nothing to do with supposed incompetence on anyone's part.

I didn't say anything about incompetence. And a full year with lackluster support DOES say something about 3rd party interest. It means that there's little to none. Some, like EA and Bethesda, have explicitly stated that they have no plans for the Wii U. Ubisoft is pretty much done with the Wii U after Watch Dogs. Who does that leave? Besides Indies, not much. and The PS4 and XB1 being out doesn't mean more support for the Wii U, it means less. It'll be the same "N0T 3N0UGH P0W33RZ!!!1" spiel it always is.

My point was that the situation is different than it was last year, so you can't really look at it the same way.

Advice: Just get it for the most beautiful looking kart racer ever to grace a console -Mario Kart 8. It will be worth it and if you don't it will haunt you until the very day you do regardless of what 3rd party non-mario kart games aren't on the system.

You don't buy Nintendo's consoles for third party titles. The Wii U specifically you buy it for the first party exclusives and the cool little indie games. I don't see any reason why to specifically demand third party when there's so much content you're excluding yourself from. Especially when most third party content that's any good has to be multiplatform to make a profit anyways.

That said I'd say Rayman Legends is the best third party game on the Wii U so far and one of the ones where the Wii U is the place to get it. Assassin's Creed IV is good too but unless you're particularly into off-TV play it's probably better on PC, XBOne or PS4. Same will probably be true of Watch Dogs although frankly my enthusiasm for that title is dropping rapidly. I assume there will be more of that sort of content when the yearly-iterations go through their next cycle.

As for actual exclusive content overall I would re-look at Mario for a start. I don't understand why you would hate the game given how fantastic it is. Then I would look at Pikmin 3 which is something else entirely and uses the Wii U's features well. Next year you have DK:Tropical Freeze and Smash Bros to look forward to. Down the road expect to see more along those lines like new Zelda and Metroid games built from the ground up for the Wii U.

Then there's the small indie stuffs that has been both good and impossible to predict. Prime example would be something like this:

Nintendo is gaining quite a bit of momentum in the indie space. They're no Steam but they're definitely getting some great content that is console-exclusive to Nintendo's platforms.

3rd party support in 2014 will probably be limited to the annual franchises (COD, AC etc) and Nintendo's exclusive collaborations (Sega, Atlus etc).

As you own a PS4 though would you even bother with 3rd party games on the Wii U? Most people say that they'll get all that stuff on the PS4 instead. It comes down to GamePad use versus visual fidelity, myself I'll take the GamePad (it's hard for me to play games without offscreen maps and selections now) but I suspect that you'd choose the visuals (as you already stated that you'd pick Watch Dogs on PS4). So the 3rd party situation is really a moot point.

When you say you 'hate Mario games', it seems a bit of a blanket statement. If it is more the case that you hate platformers then it'd make sense, but if not then you should still check out Mario 3D World because it is the best platformer of the year (better than Rayman Legends imo). If you haven't tried them before you should also look at The Wonderful 101, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Lego City Undercover, Pikmin 3, Scribblenauts, Splinter Cell and Deus Ex HRDC.

Next year is when it gets really good though, as DKC Tropical Freeze, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2 alone are worth owning the console for (plus 'X' potentially being the best gen 8 game).

3rd party is looking nonexistent.

If you buy it, buy it for exclusives.

I am sorry that you have to endure the whole "You dont buy Nintendo for third-party games" and "Here´s a list of first-party content instead"- defense force. The reality however, is that these excuses very much fits the bill, this time around.

Third-party isnt looking.

So, if you are interested in getting a Wii U, it really should be because you have an interest in Nintendo developed games.

If it wasnt for Watch Dogs being postphoned to the spring of 2014 it wouldnt be a single noteworthy release from third-part. Also, despite what some have mentioned, it seems very unlikely with more Assassins Creed and Call of Duty - as well. Ubisoft has already been reported working on two new titles in the AC-franchise, for an example. Both to be released in 2014. One for Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The other for Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. Not Wii U. As said before - Ubisoft and other thirdparty companies was not joking around when they said that they will support Wii U until the end of 2013.

But enough talking. Heres the reality given to you straight up.

February - Lego Movie The Video Game
February - Winx Infinity: Dance Party 101
Spring - Lego The Hobbit
Spring - Watch Dogs
May - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Thats it.

But since you already seem to have a PS4 i wouldnt rule out Wii U being a good addition to the living room. If you like Nintendo games. That is. But there is also a lot of downloadable indie-content coming. Sure PS4 has even wider indie-suppot and most of the upcoming indie games you will also be able to play on your laptop, smartphone, tablet or, you know, but still..

The short story: Buy a Wii U if you are into Nintendo. And indie eShop games.

I describe the Wii U as the perfect second console in my mind. You get a Wii U for the long list of exclusives not for Third party support.

So if these games don't interest you then simply dont purchase a Wii U

  • ZombiU
  • New Super Mario U
  • Pikmin 3
  • Windwaker HD
  • Wonderfull 101
  • Super Mario 3D Land
  • Sonic Lost World
  • WiiFit U
  • Wii Sports Club
  • Nintendoland
  • Mario Kart 8
  • Donkey Kong Country Returns Tropical Freeze
  • Super Smash Bro's
  • X
  • Bayonetta 2
  • Hyrule Warriors

There are a few more but are either to far out to mention or not some of the bigger titles, if none of those appeal to you then dont purchase a Wii U as thats the current landscape/near future landscape for the first/second party line up.

After reading all comments and having a look at GAME.co.uk in the pre-order list. Admittedly there does not seem to be all the much the interests me from the wii u sadly which is a shame as when I had the wii u first time I really liked the gamepad and the system its self. I think I will wait until E3 and see what is announced then. In the mean time I may buy a 3ds or a 3ds as that does have some decent titles I want to play.

Lol if 3rd party games are important you don't get a Nintendo. Been like that for some time now.

I will buy Watch Dogs on Wii U. Since I also want to play Splinter Cell, Deux Ex, Batman Origins and AC IV, I have plenty of third party to play for a while.

The truth is that it always seems like you buy the Nintendo console for the first party games, but if you like the third party offerings, even if there's less choice, then you're pretty settled. The best games on the Wii were third party IMO and I had more third party games than first. I feel the same way now with Batman: Arkham City, Mass Effect: SE and Zombi U being my favorite on the Wii U (of course with Marios in each case but still...)

Does that mean that I would have enjoyed other consoles more, like the guy saying "Go buy a PS4" maybe - if you playing like a zillion games a year, but as long as there's a handlful of great titles, then just like the Wii Remote added something special to third party offerings on the Wii, the game pad adds an imerssive level to third party games on the Wii U, that I just don't want without. Literally, I am so happy with the game pad, that I prefer less third party games as long as they use the game pad , than more third party games with regular controllers. just like with the Wii.

The only thing that bugs me, is that people drew the conclusion that Wii U wouldn't have any 8th gen 3rd party support a long time ago. That's 1 year before it launched, and 2 years before Xbox One and PS4 launched.

I'm interested to see how anyone could have made such bold predictions before there was any indication. As of now, there's tons of 7th gen 3rd party games, but not 8th gen. Xbox One and PS4 don't even have that many 3rd party games, because they just launched.

EDIT: Also, Xbox One and PS4 are still getting 7th gen games, too. Watch_Dogs, CoD, Battlefield 4, FIFA, Destiny, etc. are still 7th gen games at the core, so I don't see what the fuss is about.

I don't think the Wii U is for you if you're planning to mainly buy 3rd party games.

Maybe the Wii U isn't for you if you don't think it SHOULD, or CAN get 8th gen multiplats. That's honestly not why I even bought it, never the less.

My point is that Wii U not getting 3rd party support is way off the mark in almost everyway, especially if your such a soul that made a far out prediction 1-2 years ago.
