If I remember correctly when I bought the Zelda edition Wii U, I got 499 points from the deluxe digital promotion website. I was excited to get credit for a free digital pack in game, but that got me wondering about the amazing Mario Kart bundle. Could customers who participate in the MK8 bundle get $5 back from their free game and people who purchase MK8 digitally have the potential to get $10 back?
I was just curious if this is correct or if my Zelda credit was a fluke. Because that makes the deal sweeter for me if I can get $10 from my digital purchase.
Oh...that is a valid question. I never knew you got credit for using a download code.
If that's the case, then I will enjoy my free $10, since I'm getting two free games.

I would be surprised. They already have a bunch of deals going for this game that all stack.
I look at it this way. I had Super Mario Kart on the Wii VC, which I brought mostly with all the Wii Points I won in that Tetris tourney thing. So I transferred it, that meant I paid $1.50AU to "buy" Super Mario Kart on my Wii U which I was going to do anyways. However they also have a promotion in place so that I get $10.40 off Mario Kart 8 if I have Super Mario Kart. Then there's this Nintendo Network Premium thing where cash spent on the eShop is turned into points which gives you an eShop voucher. I figure I'll probably get another $7.50AU voucher because of this from Mario Kart 8. So basically they've given me a good $16AU off already.
THEN they say no, that's not enough. They're also giving me a download code for one of their bigger games. A game that would at retail probably cost ~$65 or so. That's insane enough as it is. And now you're wondering if that download will count towards the Nintendo Network Premium thing also? Another $7.50 voucher? I think if that does happen... wow, just.... wow....
yeah, I doubt it. It would be a nice extra ontop of all of the other stuffs.

But he got the points for the WWHD download code. Why would it be different this time around? Because of optional promotions?

Because there could be a difference between a game purchased in a bundle and a game given away in a promotion. I don't know, I'm just guessing. If it does count in the way we're describing then that's insane. They're basically giving me a solid $20AU discount on a game I was always going to buy and throwing in another game for good measure.

Redeemed download codes of any form are, to my knowledge, reflected in your DDP account. So if you want a little extra scratch for going digital... Did I mention MK8 is about 4.9 gigs? Not a bad jumping off point.
Earn approximately 10% back in Points on the price of digital games purchased and content downloaded from the Wii U Nintendo eShop. Points can be earned on both:
・Games purchased directly with a balance at the Nintendo eShop on Wii U.
・Wii U Games downloaded with a code purchased at a retailer, where available.
Well, it does provide two specific means to earn points, but the biggest emphasis is that you get points for downloading content from the eShop. Very rarely does it say purchased. So it might not matter how you got the game, as long as you download it, you get the points.

@brewsky: Yeah, it's a virtual certainty. I haven't used a code myself, but several friends have claimed in the past that their DDP accounts were boosted by redeeming WW HD bundle codes.
Maybe the reasoning behind this is when you get the free game, you're technically "buying" it for free, and you get the game's retail value as points.

That's what I was trying to say. When you get a bundle you're technically buying the game. With the promotion they're doing here is that still a purchase? Or is it just a free game? If it's counted then that's pretty awesome and ANOTHER discount/deal ontop of what we're already getting here. If not then that's also cool.

edit: unless ppl are gonna buy the digital version on top of the copy they got and sell off the copy that comes with the bundle, then! you can get $10 back. at the expense of an additional $55 (counting the $5 you get back).
Ok, let me get this straight. So the Super Mario Kart deal, gives me about $10AU off the eShop price of the game. A price which is likely to be $80AU (also likely to be the retail price given it's Mario Kart) so $70AU. Ok, that's a start. Then I get 420 'points' which basically translates to $6AU off ontop of that. So now the game is costing me $64AU which nobody is going to beat in store. But no, not stopping there.
Now they give me ANOTHER GAME which again is $80AU in the eShop AND apparently the Nintendo Network Premium bonus for that also which adds up to about another $7AU. So basically they're charging me $64AU for a game that I would have happily paid $80AU for and then paying me $7AU to download another game from a list of what are fairly interesting games. Has the world gone mad?

Nah madness would be if you get the blue shell from the deluxe copy of the game on top of all that.
Well then that settle it. I'm going to download MK8 on launch and get two games for roughly $50. This is such a good deal and I hope a lot of new adopters take advantage. Thanks for the clarification guys/gals.
