Seriously guys, why the hate for IGN? You do realise that there are different teams for different systems over on their site? The guys who complain about Nintendo aren't the guys on the Nintendo team. When they do it's often more justified than some of the stuffs you see from Nintendo fans on forums like this.

For example in their New SMB U review they said they loved the game but wished the visuals were pushed further and were kinda bored of the "New Super" theme. Then gave it a 9.1. They also gave Nintendo Land, which review I'm not going to read, an 8.7. These are hardly scores that suggest a bias against Nintendo. Actually on metacritic these are the highest scores for those games thus far.

You people keep forgetting Ultra HD, I bet Sony/M$ are waiting for those TVs to be out for their U HD systems, lol.

If they're waiting for 4k to be something you can go down to the shops and get at the rate people were willing to get 1080p screens in 2005/2006 they'll be waiting a while. Barring super-expensive on-order GIS/Air-Traffic-Control type screens you can't even get a computer monitor at that resolution yet let alone a TV. Which is stupid given that the iPad has a 1080p screen and is only 10"......

but yeah, expect the "next gen" Sony/MS consoles to be doing 1080p at launch and don't hold your breath on 4k support.

I think 4k is another generation away.

It's very hip to hate on IGN at the moment, because they allegedly give better reviews to the companies giving them the most advertising revenue. Personally I'm pretty sure that all of the biggest media review sites/publications do this too, a degree of corruption is an inevitable element of big business. So long as you're not someone who relies on written reviews and scores to assess a game's quality, IGN is a very good website with unparalleled coverage and a lot of (paid for) exclusives.

I would also add that reviews of Nintendo games on a Nintendo-dedicated website aren't usually the most objective, either.

Well Sony did say they won't be releasing their system for another 2 years or something, so I dunno. I already saw those TVs in Best Buy too, and...wow. o.0

Reviews shouldn't be objective. That's not the point. There is no way to measure how good a game is 'objectively'. One person might hate the music, one person may love it. Maybe I like to grind a whole lot in an RPG, so that wouldn't be a bad thing for me, while others find it tedious. Same with any of the other things that make up a game. That's the beauty of opinions, and more reviews should use them. I can look at a wiki article on the game if I want facts about it.

It's also why game scores are mostly pointless and should really not exist. At all. Just, don't look at them. You can't say how good a game is on a scale. "The music and story are amazing but the gameplay is meh, so I give it a 6?" You can't compare apples and oranges.

And there's no way to know how much you will enjoy a game based on a number someone else assigned to it. There's just too many factors going into play here. Reviews should be for yourself, and people who share the same likes/dislikes as you do. Trying to write a review that takes everyone's preferences into account is impossible. You can't please everyone, so don't try to!

I read New Super Mario Bros. U and Nintendo Land reviews from IGN and don't really understand why people don't like those reviews. I didn't notice single bad thing said about Nintendo Land until the one minus it got in the end and it has great score for minigame compilation. New Super Mario Bros. U had some bad things which most of us already knew; graphics aren't as good as they could be, music isn't as good as what it used to be and multiplayer can be pretty chaotic at times. And still they gave it 9.1 which means it's still a really good game. What were you excepting? 10/10 for both games? I'm pretty sure neither of them is worth that good score. I'd say IGN's reviews were pretty precise.

I would say from the looks of things the Wii U is graphically not next Gen at all as the graphics aren't any better but the technology could be classed as next Gen. It's next Gen for Nintendo (and there fans) as it's there first HD console but its not Next Gen for everyone else.
Honestly I cant see many XBox 360 owners getting rid of there console to go to buy a Wii U. The graphical leap isn't there at all yet and most 360 users will play a game for graphics over anything else so why would you buy a console that could possibly be in Ninja Gaiden's case Graphically inferior to your curent console.
Most of my friends are 360 owners and they have all said how they hate Nintendo now and they should just be a third party developer developing games for other systems. There main concern is Nintendo just release the same I.P's (Mario Zelda, Metroid etc) over and and over again, and yeah they do but every next game generally is a leap forward from the last and that is one company, Nintendo for the Wii just didn't get the third party support and when it did it just got watered down releases of games. We all know the Wii was not a power house but with a bit of care and love you could make a fantastic game, I just think alot of third party developers were genarally lazy and couldn't be bothered, hopefully now they have the third party support we might see some more quality games rather than relying on Nintendo with the occasional gem from Japanese games companys like Cacpcom or Square Enix.
Me personally I love Nintendo I own 164 retail Wii and about 40 3DS games to prove it, My Wii U is pre-ordered and I cant wait, I do think they make some very silly decisions sometimes, but whatever mistakes they make it obviously works for them as they are still one of the top competitors in the gaming world. Wii sales and DS sales alone prove that.

Don't understand the graphical snobbery from some 360/PS3 users. If they wanted "next-gen" graphics that much they'd go out and buy a new PC now. Guaranteed to be able to do more than what the "next-gen" will do just as a mid-high end PC from 2004-2005 was compared to the 360/PS3. So it's not about graphics..... or at least not a rational argument for graphics....

and it's a bit rich to complain about Nintendo for Mario/Zelda/Metroid when the whole industry is suffering from too many sequels. You know, how dare they launch a console with a New SMB 4 and try to get us hyped about Zelda 8, Metroid 6, 3D Mario 5, Smash Bros 4 and Mario Kart 8! Those other next-gen consoles will have unique experiences like Halo 5, Assassin's Creed 4, GTA 5, Gears of War 5 and Final Fantasy 15.

Nice to see ZombieU getting 92 but if this is official Nintendo magazine uk, i remember they gave red steel 90% and while it wasnt the worst game ever it defiantly wasnt a 90% game

I have to agree on this point, and no one has brought this up which is amazing. At this point, you can speed these up, but they are not going to look a whole lot better. I guess microsoft can upgrade graphics, but as for all of the others 1080p s what we have, and I imagine it will stay that way at least through the next generation. The are working on it, but it will not be cost effective for a while.

As for IGN, I get me PS3 news from them, and beyond that, I do not pay much attention to what they have to say. By in large, the video game world is a lot like the comic world. They say they want to further the medium, but they really have a tough time opening up their mind to people from the outside. For this generation, it was the casual gamer. They hold these people in contempt for some reason. I do not get it.

If I want Nintendo news and comments, I come here or I go to Nintendo Everything. These two sites are about the only two that I trust when it comes to Nintendo Reviews.
