A new installment of the Donkey Kong Country series has been announced, with the return of Dixie Kong and the rise of Viking animals for new enemies in this game.

What do you think? I think it's awesome! It came completely out of left field and was my second biggest surprise of the Direct!

I have to admit, I was initially a little disappointed that this is what Retro Studios has been working on, as opposed to a new IP or even a return of Star Fox or F-Zero.

However, this looks excellent! So glad they made a sequel, as I had hoped the 3D remake of Returns wouldn't be the last we see of the new DK. :D

Can't wait for November~

Oh yes. We've needed a new Donkey Kong since 2011 :D

I was excited for this and X and bayonetta 2 but I have mixed feelings I feel empty I thought Nintendo cared about games but they seem terrible.

Since Donkey Kong Country Returns was absolutely incredible, I can't complain too much about getting a sequel :D
Plus, am I the only one who thinks the enemies look absolutely adorable in this game?

In Returns people complained about the lack of Kremlings, now I can see people wishing the Tikis came back. :p

Regardless of what others may say, I'm still looking forward to this.

I would've preferred the Kremlings to return, of course, but I at least like the Viking animals more than the tikis. They're going to come much closer to the Kremlings in the personality department

Considering the size of their team and for the fact that this sort of game doesn't take 3 years of full-time work to make, people believe Retro is working on 2 titles right now. Even one of the newest members from Naughty Dog made a reference to a game their making, and DKC didn't seem to fit that description. This isn't confirmed, of course.

What animal buddies would you like to see return?

If they're drawing more inspiration from Donkey Kong Country 2, then I'd love to see Rattly and Squitter.

Also, why has no one mentioned that there's finally going to be underwater levels in this game?

To be honest, I don't really care about the animal buddies that much, but if some do return, I guess that would be neat. And yeah, This game has underwater levels too, which should make quite a few people happy.

Not Metroid, not interested.

Disappointment aside, I like DKCR3D so I'll be keeping an eye on this.

true. that's why i'm almost certain Retro has been working on something else as well. And let's face it: someday a new 3D Metroid will be announced for the Wii U.

Exactly the same reaction as I had to Super Mario 3D World. I'm sure it will be a great game, but I was just expecting more from Retro. I'm hoping this is a small team, doing something they know, in order to get a great game out on Wii U this year.

I had such high expectations today, I feel deflated now, but I'm pretty sure by November and December that will be forgotten.

Isn't Retro big enough to handle making more then one game at a time? And they did say previously they weren't doing another DK...

I think Retro is still hiding something.

You double posted. Also, I doubt it took Retro 3 years to make this game especially since an engine already exists for this. They also specified before, their "new" game wasn't anything Donkey Kong related which means this is most likely a side project and their main project wasn't ready to show yet.
