Topic: Child of Light -- Ubisoft Platform RPG

Wow kinda surprised there isn't a thread for this already but I searched and didn't see one.

Anyway Ubisoft next AC game might not be coming to the Wii U but at the end of the month a platformer RPG called Child of Light will be.

Here is a trailer for it which shows the game off better then I can describe it

It surprising looks good and looks like a great little platformer RPG. For me I am excited about it going back to the old turn base combat like some of the RPGs from the SNES era.

What are you guys thoughts about this game? Anyone going to pick it up?

"Kinda Dull"? Did we even watch the same trailer?! O.O This looks fantastic to me. Screw any of those samey sequels, this is where I'm putting my money, man!

I knew from the first announcement that I'd be buying this day one. I can't wait. This will really help tide me over until Mario Kart 8. I just hope it's not too short and has a decent difficulty level.

I'm not a huge fan of the character designs. It also looks very "floaty" to me, the way you fly around the environments. It's like its all one big underwater world, & underwater levels are usually my least favorite levels in any game.

I was excited when it got announced. But it just looks more 'meh' for each new piece of footage I see, sadly.

If the reviews are good I'll check this one out. Mario Kart 8 is still two months away so I could use something like this in the meantime.

One interesting thing I read is that most of the core team that worked on this game also worked on Far Cry 3 so they have a similar skill tree.

Not quite sure yet if I want to get this on my Wii U or PS4 though.

Except for the flying, it looks alright.

I find it strange that people are noting the flying as a turn off for them. I thought it was pretty unique and as @CanisWolfred said, it does add the feel of freedom. If you watch the trailer that Tasuki posted, she isn't even flying in every clip. There is a couple clips where she is running and jumping. In a couple of clips where she is flying, it looks as if she's escaping from something/somewhere, particularly the clip where she's flying away from the Gryphon. That looks pretty exciting to me, but hey, to each their own.

@Tasuki I would get it on Wii U, I think they are making some use of the Gamepad. If you're not a fan of the Gamepad.. then I still say Wii U to simply support one of the last few big third parties to release games on the Wii U.

I think it looks preety good. I think this is going to be the only RPG game on the Wii U eShop, until Hyper Light Drifter and some of those other Kickstarter games show up.

I don't know, I like the art style (very creative) but the floating stuff looks... kinda.. pointless. I'm afraid it won't give you a sense of "freedom", not sure if that makes sense. I like walking around and exploring stuff, especially in RPGs.

Hmm almost like the environments are eye candy, because you aren't really interacting with them. Just passing through, more like.

You don't play a lot of Indie or digital download only games do you?

So 15 days till this comes out. Not sure if I want to get this on the Wii U or the PS4 though, thinking I might go with the Wii U if anything to conserve HD space on my PS4 and go give me a reason to dust off my Wii U.

Have they talked about any GamePad features? that might be another reason to get it on Wii U

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@DefHalan: Well according to UbiSoft there are going to be gamepad features but they haven't been released yet as to what they are. I am guessing off tv play at least.

I'm not expecting a lot of gamepad features, but that's okay. What I expect to see is off-screen play and more precise firefly (I can't remember how to spell its name, something close to 'Igniculous') control using the stylus.

Also, new avatar in anticipation of the coming release.

I wish there was a Vita version of this since its built on Rayman's Engine and Rayman was best on Vita

I don't own the Vita. What's the gameplay differences between the Vita and the Gamepad in Rayman Legends?

AFAIK, the Ubiart engine doesn't affect the gameplay experience, it's just a cross-platform graphics engine for easier adaption of artistic ideas.
