I'd be very surprised if E3 this year had some 3rd party developer throwing wii u a bone and gave them a token cross platform game honestly, I think wii u's 3rd party support from now on will likely be indie based, with the rest made up of nitendo IP that nintendo licenses to 3rd parties with the freak occurance of some odd original 3rd party only once in a while, at least that's what my home made crystal ball tells me.

This.

X could be a big hitter but I have absloutly no faith in Nintendo's marketing to make it a big thing. Plus its probably going to be overShadowed by The Order and Quantum Break.

No.

... especially now that the PlayStation 4 has overtaken the Wii U (life-to-date) sales as of yesterday when the PlayStation 4 went on sale in Japan.

And just long has the PlayStation 4 been available?

3 months! It took a mere THREE MONTHS to take the throne.

I thoroughly enjoy my Wii U, but there's no way the third party support is going to return now, unfortunately.

Things are way more complex then this, but anything less then an apocaliptic view on the Wii U's perspectives will inevitably be seen as delusional thinking, so i would rather let time show if people are right or wrong...like some executive said, this isnt a sprint, its a marathon, a long 10 year marathon.

With that said the Wii U doesn't seem like it was made to withstand 10 years. Take in mind that despite selling poorly at this junctre, the PS3 was powerful enough that it still got major third party support and Sony's own first party studios were able to keep up the slack.

How long did the N64 last?

About five years.

How long did the GameCube last?

About five years.

How long did the Wii last?

About five years, although I'd argue it was four years seeing as third party support more or less vanished after the fourth year with the exception of movie tie-ins.

How long did the PSone last?

Eight years.

How long did the PlayStation 2 last?

About nine years.

How long has the PlayStation 3 been going for?

A shy under eight years with a hefty line-up for this year to come.

I can already foresee how long the PlayStation 4 may well last however, I would be very surprised if the Wii U continues in 2016 if things don't look up by the end of this year.

I really, REALLY want Nintendo to succeed, but I am not blind to their console(s) lifespan.

Their handheld system(s) last much, MUCH longer, thankfully, although that's a different subject altogether.

Nintendo should do what they did with Xenoblade and the other RPGs: "Nyah nyah you can't have it North America" then watch as fan-based movements do all the marketing for them and then they'll release it

So so so true.

Ultimately, the failure of third parties and Wii U is on the third parties. Very few risks, very few creative ideas. Even with the Wii, they never gave it enough thought. Some ports have been excellent, but as exclusives, Zombi U is basically the only great third party game. Companies didn't attempt to clone that and improve on mechanics, and create a market. Just like they didn't see how beautiful RE4 plays on the Wii and how many games could go that way.

@Peek-a-boo

When you say that the ps2 lasted 8 years, i suppose you mean that it was still selling and getting games even after the ps3 launch (wich, actually, is still the case for the Wii)...but when i say this generation might last for 10 years, i actually mean theres not going to be a ps5 until 10 years from now...or at least, thats what some people are expecting. Just correcting the diference between the ps4 lasting 10 years and the ps2 case.

Well...ZombiU did not sell so good...

Yeah, Zombie U didn't sell very well, but it was still a third party Wii U game done right. I think it's poor sales really have to do with the Wii U's poor sales, not the game itself.

I'll definitely agree with you on that. Nintendo has hardly done anything with the gamepad.

They both fared better than Hudson, anyways! (R.I.P.)

I feel like my tastes are becoming hopelessly niche in terms of 3rd party based titles. It's probably why i play nintendo games 95% of the time these days.

I guess I'm joining the club now, too. Now that the hype is coming down for the 8th gen twins, I'm looking at their third party movies games and I can't see myself ever watching playing any of it. DLC abuse at every turn, microtransactions around every corner, and DRM at every step. You didn't even mention yearly installment domination, endless rehashing, buggy crashfests (Just patch it later!), hyperly overbudget explosion fests, tacked-on online modes, and whatever else game companies are coming out with these days. Considering how new the generation is, I'm dreading what they'll come up with later! We've entered the dark ages of gaming, in my opinion.

Retro is gonna be the way to go this generation. Already having a ton of fun building a good collection, and can't wait for the R5.

Its not only about the spectacle...some of this games seem to be important when it comes to interactive storytelling, like Mass Effect and LA Noire. While other are amazing in how imersive they are, like the Batman Arkham games. Sometimes they are repetitive, but if you play them on hard, you will have to get very creative to overcome the situations. So, if u guys havent tried some of this games already, i totally recomend.

Only if we buy 3rd Party games.
The Previous good 3rd Party titles to hit WiiU have seen very poor sales across the board.

these titles include Tekken Tag Tournament 2 WiiU Edition, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Assassin's Creed IV, and Rayman Legends.
Games like Batman Arkham Origins also saw slow sales and it could have been the lack of people buying DLC for Injustice and the Season Passes for Arkham Origins that got WB to cancel the DLC on Arkham Origins.

We may not even see major 3rd Party support on Nintendo platforms till the next cycle, unless developers and publishers see a growth in both Digital and Physical sales.

If Nintendo support Wii U, 3rd parties will come back when FIFA and CoD can sell enough units. Here's a problem I can see coming:

Mario Kart 8 releases, sells enough Wii Us to interest 3rd parties
3rd parties release loads of crap MK clones.
Smash releases, sells some units
3rd parties release loads of crap Smash clones.
X releases, sells well.
3rd parties release X-Factor game.
