Topic: Do you prefer platform shooters or spaceship shooters?

More like Gradius for me but I do like platforming shooters as well.

Eh, they're entirely different. Run n Gun platformers vs SHMUP's, I love them both. They both have their own appealing aspects.

But seriously... It depends on the game.

Not counting Megaman as part of this auto scrolling Platformer/Shmup, my choice is definitely for the spaceship side and I have a big preference for the horizontal scrolling kind.

I'm truly stuck on this one. Games like Radiant Silvergun really stick with me but I will always return to something like Gunstar Heroes and claim it to be better. It's just too much of a back and forth problem for me to decide.

As much as I loved Gunstar Super Heroes, the Contra series, and Metal Slug, the edge definitely goes to space shooters. They're far simplier to play and get better at. Easy to learn, but tough to master. Well, except a few like Radiant Silvergun and Ikaruga, those are way too complicated for me.

Shumups all day. Darn Cave for their region free games... every time I look I have to import something....Ikaruga is love, Ikaruga is life. My GC copy will likely be buried with me.

Shumps all the way! Prefer my spaceship shooters top-down, but you know?? I'll take a sidescroller every now and again, (speaking of Gradius I do need to pick that up on the 3DS eShop..) Run-N-Guns are great every once in a while, certainly not my favorite, but the few I've played (various MegaMan's, Super C on the Original Gray Brick, Metal Slug on Neo Geo Pocket and more) are all pretty darn fun.

I like them both, but I tend to prefer platform shooters. The only kind of shooters I generally can't stand are the first-person ones.
