Now I won't say Call of Duty is the cancer of gaming and that its ruining the industry. But its popularity has been getting pretty annoying over the years. So do you think it will falter and lose relevance this gen? I personaly would like that to happen, the last decent Call of Duty was World at War, and halting the series after Advance Warfare, or at the very least, switch to a 3-4 year development cycle would allow for other genres and other types of games to take the spotlight.
Saying it's ruining the industry is a strong statement, but could you back it up? Make examples? Explain how it's ruining the industry?
I don't know about you, but I thought Black Ops 2 was worthwhile.
Call of Duty is just a fad. It seems like it will never end but it will all things like that come to an end at some point. Back in the early to mid Nineties fighting games were are the rage like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat and the dozens of others. Now they are not as popular with the general public as they once were. Same with RTS games too. Sooner or later the general public will move on.

I'm not saying its ruining the industry, I made that clear in the OP.
I did say it was going to be replaced by the Titanfall and Destiny IPs as the big FPS, but honestly, Advanced Warfare looks really good from what they've shown, so perhaps it shouldn't be counted out yet.
Very few series survive being the top name from generation to generation.
No. If it does there are other shooters to its place.
"They played us like a damn fiddle!" - MGS5
"Finish your mission, prove your loyalty." - MGS3
"We could take a s*** on you from such a height, you'd think God himself has crapped on you!" - GTA: SA

I would assume it slowly does.
Activision tries to up the ante by incorporating another studio into the development cycles to allow for yearly releases, but longer development time. But Call of Duty needs higher challenge, better weapon balancing that makes even the weakest of guns more useful, and a better campaign that actually goes beyond a sad joke with pretty cutscenes for advertising. They need to see beyond the potential profit of the brand and make a truly hardcore Call of Duty, instead of catering to short attention spans and unwillingness to make an effort on the consumer end. Screw the lazy casuals, give the dedicated something to bite! That would also restore some respect for the brand.
But, as it stands now, Activision is simply exhausting the patience of their audience until even the most obsessed kid loses interest.
@ TheMisterManGuy No, it means that every company works on a CoD title for three years, but during the first two, the other companies finish theirs and release it to keep the yearly cycle. Then, on the next year, the next company releases, and so on.
Maybe if they oversell it. But in militarized countries, kids are kind of conditioned into liking the war themes and tactic stuff from very early ages, so these games will always have a strong audience.
will Pokémon lose relevance?(I love Pokémon, BTW)
probably, if the gaming industry continues going on like this all games we know will lose relevance at some point and maybe be replaced, but I wouldn't worry about it for now since gaming companies are trying hard to at least stabilize.

Except shooters have been massively popular since the dawn of gaming. The only thing that will replace a shooter is another shooter, so to answer the question: It'll lose its relevence when another shooter becomes the next big thing.
It will probably still be one of the top selling franchises for a long time unless Activision screws up badly, but I do think it's past the point of being relevant beyond its admittedly huge fanbase. It'll probably end up being this weird thing where it sells better than nearly any game, but no one outside of its fans care anymore.
Last year was good proof of that. How much did you actually hear about COD: Ghosts compared to Bioshock Infinite or The Last of Us? Not a lot. Yet COD Ghosts sold so much more. It's weird like that.

I think someone missed Street Fighter 4 bring about a fighting game renaissance.

Read that OP wrong. Dang, do I hate embarrassing myself!
Anyways, I do not think the COD craze will die out soon. If anything, I think the genre itself will simmer down in releases, but COD will still stay there, every year amongst Mario and Link in terms of sales.
