I must admit, I'm not a big fan of IGN in general, but Otero has done a good job on NVC, being able to judge Nintendo on what Nintendo's fans want, not by generic gamer opinion of what games should be like. Not including Nintendo Life (obviously the best), who do you consider to have done the best work covering Nintendo since the launch of the Wii U AS Nintendo fans, but without blinkered devotion to the company?

A few reminders of others are:

GamExplain
GoNintendo
My Nintendo News
Arlo (Youtube puppet)
Boogie2988 (Youtube)
Kyle Bosman/Game Trailers/Easy Allies
Jim Sterling (more generic, but does both praise and criticise Nintendo)
Or someone else?

Isn't it obvious that Falco Lombardi is actually a parrot?

Kyle Bosman is great. He's only really rivaled by Max Scoville in terms of comedy, this industry is so dang serious...

Anyway, I appreciate Otero giving Monster Hunter the time of day unlike so many westerners. However, his podcasts always felt like he had to be somewhere else; he would talk over and hurry people along to an obnoxious degree. I think he might fit better as a writer or whatever else at NoA. I'm quite glad Peer is taking over as temp host, as he's always provided great context and hindsight as opposed to overreacting. I'm excited to see the new podcasting style, and I hope the eventual new host has those same qualities.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

I heard this news yesterday. I was wondering where he was in the buildup to and during E3. He wasn't on the last couple of NVC's. Now we know why he wasn't there. I think Peer said it wouldn't have been fair to have him there or commenting. I wish him all the best at Nintendo. He's had a stellar rise through his career. I think he started at 1UP, then IGN and now on to Nintendo.

I really enjoy listening to the NVC's. The 3 amiigo's were the best, Jose, Peer and Brian. And ya, they did often rush through the shows, often ending with, "we've got to be somewhere else". It certainly wasn't anything Nintendo related because their site has dreadful Nintendo coverage. It's been like that for years. I can't remember when it exactly started. Possibly around the Wii.

Jose was fair in his judgements most of the time. He would praise Nintendo but also would call them out on their stupid decisions and BS. Though often he wasn't critical enough. I get it, he's a professional and it's a Nintendo show so he couldn't tear them to shreds. Which is what I do when it's deserved. Which unfortunately is more often than not.

Speaking of NVC, I listened back to the E3 predictions. Watch the Youtube video and you'll understand why I thought Nintendo's E3 was barely any better than average.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Otero was still going to events and writing articles for IGN during E3.

Personally I think both Easy Allies and Gamexplain do a great job for Nintendo coverage. I think they both do a decent job with praise and criticism for Nintendo, and they both provide a good range of content. Gamexplain are great for covering news, getting details and really analyzing games. Also Derrick is just Awesome. With Easy Allies, I think they're really good at discussing Nintendo related things in their podcasts (including their awesome Nintendo focused Friendcode) as they bring several different viewpoints and often compare Nintendo with the rest of the industry. They're also just a really Jolly group who brings positivity and smiles to everyone. I sometimes visit the others channels metioned, but I tend to often look at these two channels.

@Haru17 Yeah I agree with the podcasts with Otero always being kinda "rushed" or something like that. There were often be a good discussion really brewing, but they would then have to move on. And sometimes I felt bad for the other guys as it felt like Otero was sometimes talking over them. Still gonna miss him though.

Peer Schneider is taking temporary control of the good ship NVC until they find an Ortero Mk. II...I love a bit of Peer - should be in safe hands!

I hope Kallie Plagge isn't invited to be a replacement. She is absolutely awful. Don't know how she got a job at IGN.

I'll definitely miss the guy. He was such a dedicated host, IGN is going to have a really hard time trying to replace him.

I saw this yesterday. I only recently started watching NVC, but I love it. These guys are real Nintendo fans. Jose will be a huge loss. At least Pier Schneider is hosting... I really like him.

I know Jose wasn't in it, but the special e3 NVC with Bill Trinnen was fantastic. Nice seeing the normal side of Bill. He's a lot different than he comes across in Nintendo Directs.

This reminds me when @James left Nintendolife for Nintendo of Europe. I hope he is still doing well.

Switchforce does a pretty good job of Nintendo coverage, although as the name implies, they focus primarily on Switch and not other stuff like the 3DS.

The best thing about Jose was the enthusiasm for gaming and the joy he found in Nintendo, which is what so many Nintendo fans can relate to.

He has a great knowledge, writes well and contrary to what many others say I like his style in the podcast. There might have been things you wanted to hear more about or felt rushed, but there was also plenty of times where they really let their fandom shine so to speak.

It is awesome that he gets to work for Nintendo and I wish to find out soon what he is going to go do there.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Lol, what did she ever do? Anyway, Plagge left IGN to take a job at Gamespot half a year ago, so you shouln't be worried...

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

SLIGEACH_EIRE

@Haru17 Thank God. Now that you say it, I remember seeing here on Gamespot. She was useless, contributed nothing to the conversations. I think the only stuff she knew about were Pokemon and Animal Crossing.

@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think Altano is worse than her in almost all instances. It seems like his purpose at IGN is to make stupid, derailing comments and tell jokes that aren't funny.

Losing him will hurt the show, as it has always seemed to suffer whenever he was not hosting it. While he would table discussions or cut things short, he made sure everyone else stayed on topic and the show kept pace.

The absolute best REVIEWER to have would be Mack (Mac? don't know how he spells it) from Worth a Buy on Youtube. That guy is just dead-straight honest, but he only does PC stuff with the occasional PS/Xbox game if it's big enough.

But seriously. That guy just tells it like it is. Would LOVE to know what he thinks about BotW. He would never become part of a podcast like NVC (much less part of a large company like IGN), but I'm just saying; if you want a straight shooter, I would take him.

(He does curse a lot, so if that's not your thing, don't listen to him.)
