I gotta agree with WaltzElf. Graphics are an important part of the gaming experience, but that doesn't mean if something is in HD it looks nicer than Mega Man or even Centipede. Along as the graphics are appealing, then I have no complaints.

If the game's graphics is a jagged mess with off-looking colours, than it's going to hinder my gaming experience, no matter how fun it is.

Sony can win if they start being original and not just copycats. The Move is a wrong direction - it smells of too much ripoff. Nobody is excited about touch-screen cellphones that are not Apple's and nobody is excited about motion control with a controller that's not a Wii. Natal is perhaps a different story - remains to be seen how effective.

So ends a saga older than time itself.
The World's oldest and fiercest army has been led to victory, and a lost generation
is delivered from its fear of extinction. As the sun sets over the
field of conflict the dinosaurs disperse, hoping never to set foot

Why is Heavy Rain being used as an example of good graphics? Game developers never learn: Trying to make realistic people with computer graphics just looks utterly ridiculous and unnatural. FF13, now that's a good looking game.

Sony could win E3 easily.
1)PS2 Emulation on the PS3 Store-This could be huge money for Sony but since the PS2 is still selling,we may not see it this year. Who knows.
I hope they show it off at E3 and tell us if its Emulation on Downloads or if we can play PS2 discs using Software Emulation.

2)Some real MOVE titles and not stupid party games. MOVE has the potential and with Software, they can win. Not ShovalWare Software though.
And maybe some updates to allow current PS3 games use MOVE.

3)A surprise game?....Jak And Dexter 4? Crash Bandicoot 4 with Naughty Dog taking the rights back for the franchise. A new Ratchet and Clank game? Or how about a Twisted Metal sequel?

4)Obvious sequels but also can be a win. Killzone 3,Resistence 3,Infamous 2,Uncharted 3,LittleBigPlanet 2 etc.

5)A big PS3 update. I'm talking big features such as MKV support, brand NEW browser,Revamped XMB,In game music for all PS3 games,Cross game Chat.

Sony can win this easily, however I feel Nintendo may take the lead this time with Zelda. All they need is Zelda and they win it for me.
Now Sony....give me Crash Bandicoot 2 on the EU Store?....

Ha! Not surprised to see this thread boil down to a discussion about graphics.

1) Lets all sit around for a few days, while we download games in the excess of 4+ GBs.
2) Look at the ratio between Shovelware and 'real' Wii titles. Its about 100 000:1
3) Don't really care there, but I thought Crash Bandicoot wasn't with Sony anymore? Anyways, the old games were the best.
4) LittleBigPlanet 2 has been confirmed because a musician has come forward saying that he was selected for a track or something.
5) Don't care about PS3 updates.

If Sony is going to "win" E3 then I think it will take a couple of things:
(1) Meaningful support for Move. This means demonstrating multiple games (both new and old) using motion in innovative ways that hasn't/can't be done on Wii. I expect this to be harder than it sounds, which is why they've shown little of Move in use except for games that pretty much copy what the Wii has already pioneered.
(2) Key announcement out of the blue that takes everyone by surprise. A new, exclusive PS3 game announcement might do it but I'd rather this be a feature-based announcement. (Free PS2 emulation in a firmware update, please?)
(3) Other companies drop the ball. Nintendo should have a strong conference because of the incredible lineup of first-party games coming out this year, but tend to underwhelm during the show. Microsoft has been suspiciously quiet lately, so I expect them to come to E3 with some big announcements.

Sony will have a good conference filled with flash and slick video reels - they always do. But unless they announce something that can take everyone by surprise, I just don't see them "winning" this year.

1)Just because you have no patience or a good broadband doesn't mean no-one else has.
2)Doesn't mean they will be on the PS3.
3)Re-read what I just said about Naughty Dog.
4)I knew this but many other people didn't. I prefer not to spoil surprise's.
5)Again,back to one. Just because you don't care doesn't mean other people don't care. Look on PS3 forums, people are always asking when the next update is out. Also:More Features=More enjoyment.

How can I care about PS3 downloads when I don't have one. And you cannot tell me that there wont be loads of shovelware on the PS3, apart from all the EyeToy stuff that's already there.

@Aviator.... Im not going to say that some shovelware will come to Move, but I can tell you that the Barbies, Ninjabread Man,etc piles of garbage that plague the Wii will NOT be on the PS3. Sony does in fact have a tougher screening process. Sony has in fact stated many times that the Move will includle the Hardcore Gamers and not just the casual. This can be argued all day to no end, but I think seeing that Little Big Planet 2 and SOCOM 4 are a good start. Regardless of who came out with the idea first, if it has good games on it then who cares, what matters are the games.

@Adam.... my reasoning for using Heavy Rain is because if compared to Indigo Prophecy wich is the closest comparison to Heavy Rain, it simply can NOT pull the amout of emotion from the gamer, because the enviroments, characters, etc are so realistic and true to life in Heavy Rain it makes it feel real and make you actually care about it/them. If the graphics were the same as Indigo Prophecy then it would still be a great game but couldnt pull it off with the same impact to the gamer.

You're not explaining what you mean by "looks crappy", though. Does FFX look crappy? FF7? Doom? Super Mario Bros? Pac-Man? Pong? You're just tossing around words like "ugly" and "spectacular" without explanations. Do spectacular games become ugly over time because some much more spectacular game comes out?

No.

The reason I love the PS3 is, as the technical beast it is, it gives developers additional tools and options in creating nice-looking games. But aesthetics are HD are not mutually-inclusive terms - it's possible for a HD game to fail aesthetically, and it's possible for games from 20 years ago to be aesthetically pleasing.

From an aesthetic perspective, the Wii is more limited than the PS3, but there are plenty of good-looking games on it. I still maintain that aesthetics are critical to games.

And most of them did not do so well. Did they look good? Probably. Then why did they fail....because of gameplay and other issues!

@lz: He didn't say that. Graphics are "an" important part. Not "the most". I agree with him. If a game looks like crap I'm not going to like it as much, though that kind of goes without saying.

On the flip-side if a game looks wonderful and plays terribly, I'm going to hate it.

It always surprises me how people constantly yearn for something more instead of enjoying and appreciating what they've got. Is another PS3 system update really going to increase your gaming enjoyment? If the answer is yes, then I question the quality of the games you are playing. If the answer is no, then I don't see the benefit in pushing for more updates.

More features doesn't (usually) equal more enjoyment for me, because I'm more concerned about the quality of games that are available to be played. This is especially true in the case of the already-feature-rich PS3... outside of a very small set of highly-requested features, it seems like Sony's time and effort would be better spent on making more games available.

All of that said, I guess everyone buys gaming consoles to scratch different itches: social tools, multimedia devices, casual-friendly gaming, status symbols... there's no incorrect reason, as long as you are getting what you wanted.

I guess they could "win" if Nintendo failed to turn up, and Sony brought an original idea of their own to the event

@ejamer.... Im guessing you havent had your Wii since launch? I have and trust me the first update to the system was crucial. My Wii was freezing constantly and the update stopped it, the new channel that were added to the system were great and then you had an update that added the DS download services and then you have now the WiiWare Demo Service. Yes, updates do matter and they are Free and why would you not look forward to them?

I don't know anything about Indigo Prophecy, but saying it looks better than a previous generation game is not evidence of anything. The characters still look disturbingly unnatural, as attempted realism in computer graphics likely will forever. I only played the demo, but I played enough of it and couldn't care less about any of them.
