I'm really am getting tired of Halo fans acting like the Halo games are the greatest games ever made. I think the Halo series is EXTREMLY OVERATED. Do you agree?
I'm not sure...on one hand, I've never thought the games themselves to be anything great. I mean, it's just a better looking Doom or any FPS that came out in the 90's for PC's.
I think Halo fans think it's great based off the legacy that it really did help sky rocket console online functionality. I think that's a hard point to argue and just like Mario 64 revolutionized 3D gaming and that's why it gets the respect, Halo gets the same for online multiplayer.
Where I question that is, was it really that big of an accomplishment because, as I recall, Quake and Unreal were dominating PC online gaming for quite a while before Halo was even a concept so...was it really that big of an accomplishment? That I'm not sure of.
@Machu Nope, Master Chief is still around. He's just not going to be in ODST.
Yes, Halo is overrated. So is anything Mario. And Final Fantasy. And Wii Sports. And all Legend of Zelda games. And any Metal Gear game. The important thing is that the Halo games are fun. Just for fun and because I think it's pretty awesome, I've stuck the extended Halo ODST trailer in (still think it should have been called Recon).
"The government of the United States is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion."
Why did you have to post that, ew! It's a good short movie, but doesn't reflect the gameplay. Anyway, I played 1 & 2 from beginning to end, and the only fun I had, was the mindless type. Silly games, and I hate the lame shoot, hide, shoot, hide mechanics. A feature that made it acceptable to the masses, because it is EASY.
Hhhmm, I thought we were talking about n FPS here, let's not generalize, unless you want to? The reason I ended up disliking The Conduit was the exact same reason I dislike Halo. I'm from the Turok school of hard-knocks, I don't need my health to recover thanks.
@Machu Well, I guess how much the recharging shields are going to affect you depends on your play style. If you keep hiding everytime it takes a hit, of course it will seem easier. Just like in Super Mario Bros. 3 if you keep playing the same easy level over and over to load up on lives the game is going to be much easier to progress through. We could argue all day about Halo, but I honestly I think its a bit pointless. I like it. You don't. I doubt either will say something to change the others mind. I'll wait in line for it and play ODST to death when it comes out, and you can sleep in that day.
back on topic, the series are a bit overrated... but something is true, ever since the Goldeneye and Perfect Dark days on N64, there was no other standout console FPS until Halo came out, and nowadays there barely are (specially if we don't take into account Wii FPS because of the differen, and better, controller setup)
So, as an FPS it is overrated, but as a mainstream, Console FPS, deserves it's hype... specially since it has the largest online community I've seen on a Console game...
BTW, I just remembered I have to go today, to finish paying my brother's ODST pre-order (only $65 USD total!, $32.50 debt), and get the game if it's in the store already (special treatment FTW! lol)

Halo and Halo 2 are freakin awesome Co-op games. Actaully got me back into the FPS genre for a time. Halo 3 is to me very Overated. It just felt like the same thing but either way to easy or way to hard on the different difficulty settings. Getting Headshot behing rocks in a game without a cover system is just frustrating, NOT hardcore . Halo 2 is still on of my fav FPS and was a very polished game just a shame its the highlight of the series.

I have Halo and Halo 2. Do I think they are overrated ? Well that depends. I really think both ones I have are easily 9's out of 10's. But I also am not a die hard Halo fan. Its far from my favorite franchise. The main reason I like them is the controls are spot on for the games. I never had XBOX Live so I cannot comment on that part.
Halo is just very generic. Its funny how reviewers will bash other fps games for being generic yet act like halo is the most original thing ever. For console fps I had preferred the timesplitters series as far as pure fun. Its not even bungie's best or most original game. I liked myth and marathon better.
Still, the feature set is very robust with lots of multiplayer and online options. For better or worse it did start console fps games as being considered a big thing. It did recreate a fair amount of what pc fps fans had been enjoying for years.

Actually, the genre became popular with Goldeneye 007, in August 25, 1997, so your a little off. Now if your talking about starting console online fps games being a big thing, then you are right.
@SSBF.... actually the genre became popular with Wolfenstein and Doom for PC..... Goldeneye 64 was the one that kicked off the FPS Multiplayer. FPS game have been popular Way before Aug 2, 1997. I know because I was playing the crap out of Doom way before then.
