How did this thread get OT so fast? Arlo makes good points, albeit most of them obvious. I would say that the switch has a lot going for it as far as console launches go. It's just unfortunate that there isn't more console-exclusive content like ARMS for day 1.
It's a reasonable business decision for small business, new ventures... it's the kind of thing Nintendo might have done for their QOL platform, but... any brand new Nintendo console can't be released quietly. They wouldn't have anything to gain from doing it. The Nintendo video game console business is such a hype fest; and with partner companies watching their every move, the best thing to do is sell as many as possible right off the bat.
I like Arlo, though. His voice, his sincere opinions, and the fact that he doesn't upload too often, and doesn't get caught up in all of the pressures of daily uploading video game news and reviews. The black hairs on his Muppet creeps me out, though.
If it's not a 'soft launch' (if that's what we're calling it now), the only alternative is that Nintendo are genuinely struggling, so let's all hope it is a soft launch.
Zelda BotW has been more or less in the bank for ages. MK8D is a port. Splatoon 2 is, to the uninitiated observer, almost the same as a Splatoon 1 port. The main releases on 3DS have been ports. And yet the Wii U was pushed aside long ago. Something doesn't add up about the lack of new software output, unless they really do just want to get the Day 1 buyers out of the way and then build to a big splash this Christmas and beyond.
I think the biggest thing is that they're trying to avoid another big launch drought. They could probably release MK8D and Splatoon 2 at launch if they wanted to. It seems like they want to release one big title every month for the forseeable future. I actually really like that idea. I hate it when big games I want come out at the same time and it turns into a big time and money sink all at once. Plus I'm not getting a Switch 'till Odyssey comes out. That is gonna be a fun launch! (For me anyway.)
Hey @Arlo, do you have any input for this conversation?

Nah, the video says everything I wanted to say, and if some people disagree (and/or want to set me on fire) I don't mind. People will always want to look at things from different angles, and that's great.
I feel like the first year is a little disappointing. Zelda, Mario, Splatoon, and Mario Kart are all gonna be great games, but I was hoping for a little more. Does Nintendo usually only release 4 large first party games in a year?
