I know I am late to the party, but here's my opinion on the Direct:
plus Simon Belmont: Cool
plus King Rool: Finally! Fantastic addition. I voted for him in the Smash 4 ballot. He has moves from all the games!
plus Cool new items
minus Still no proper single-player, apart from Classic mode. I really hope the blurred option has to do something with single-player
minus Almost all the stages are old ones. This is a huge letdown for me
@Yosheel All of the colours in Ultimate pop out much more than in Smash 4. Comparing the two makes Smash 4 look super faded. I also love the extra details and textures they added. Eldin Bridge looks especially well done.
I don't see the reason why some people try to convince others that Smash isn't as big as they make it out to be. Like, does it even matter? SSBU will sell a lot, but we won't know how much until it's actually released. Saying "it's not as big" or whatever is irrelevant for now, and to me feels like a way to lower hype for the game more than anything.

A little side note on how popular Smash really is:
If you look at best selling lists, Smash is one of the highest selling, highest grossing fighting game series of all time, currently placed at number 3, a million short of the Street Fighter series, which is kinda unbelievable.
With Brawl it already had beaten the Mortal Kombat (rank 4) and Soul Calibur (rank 5) series.
Smash Ultimate is going to beat Street Fighter in sales and popularity shortly after release, and then its sales will continue to reach the number one spot, Tekken.
Wow most of the stages are like, actually remade or improved instead of being direct ports from the last game, that's quite impressive
This is no Wii U port at all. No one can see any original Wii U assets in this game.
All 103 stages are either brandnew or graphically improved. Just like the characters and everything else.
From the first footage on the first Smash direct, Smash fans were blown away by how everything looks so much better than last time on Wii U.
Daily reminder that Smash Bros. isn't as big or important as you think it is.
Which is why Smash 3DS alone sold 9 Million?
I get that it's no Pokemon, Elderscrolls, or GTA, but it's easily one of the biggest fighting games, and especially the biggest in what's otherwise the niche of platform fighters.
05,55 million sales - Super Smash Bros.
07,41 million sales - Super Smash Bros. Melee
13,27 million sales - Super Smash Bros. Brawl
14,58 million sales - Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS
Total: 40,81 million sales
On a side note (because someone brought it up):
The Elder Scrolls series (also 5 games) reached 52 million sales (30mil sales solely from Skyrim).
Super Smash Bros. is destined to overtake Elder Scrolls sales with Ultimate.
Especially since it's already looking like the best Smash game by far.
It's still a long way to get to GTA (250 million) or Pokémon (307 million) though.
@Knuckles-Fajita My apologies.
But if multiple people didn't get the joke, then chances are it was a poorly executed joke. I've seen people on other sites say the exact same thing with other franchises and 100% meant it.
Smash 4 took stages directly from Brawl and Melee with little to no changes.
As did Brawl with the Melee stages.
That's what it meant by that.
To be fair to Super Smash Bros 4, take a look at Hyrule Temple compared to Melee/Brawl. You'll notice that most of Temple's changes were done in SSB4. In Ultimate they just really changed the lighting.
However, for whatever reason, Temple seems to be the only stage that SSB4 did this with, whereas Ultimate has significantly overhauled many, many stages beyond lighting and it is great to see.
@Harmonie Well, Temple was the only Melee stage that really needed it. The other two not on a 240p screen were Yoshi's Island and Onett, who's appearance still looks incredibly good even before Ultimate's upgrades. I mean, you can see that they've probably had the smallest upgrades of any of the Melee stages even now.
Man, I can't wait to see if the framerate would tank with 8 Ice Climbers on Fountain of Dreams just spamming side-B with explosive boxes and all sorts of nonsense flying around.
If the framerate remains at a steady 50-60fps even with all that, I'm going to laugh.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
