A few more crackpot theories:
-If those are ears, the character could be some kind of goblin
-It could be a ribbon or bow, making the character a female
Anyone else thinking that nintendo really needs to snatch this team up? They (nintendo) said over a year ago that they were looking into new game studio acquisitions. Having a team of ex Rare members would be amazing.

^No, but working closely with them to get the game on Nintendo platforms and well-advertised for them would be a good idea, at least. Lets wait until we see their game before we start talking about aquisitions...
@Picture - The left/bottom one is totally a cat. It has triangular nose and the head shape is common for cartoon cats. Who knows what the other one is, though...
Because Third Person Shooting is not a thing, Am I right?
No.
I didn't say it wasn't. But if they did go that route, it wouldn't quite be the same as Banjo-Kazooie, defeating the purpose of it being a spiritual sequel.
Spiritual sequels can add to the gameplay elements. But this is kind of a mute point for this thread. The developers already have their ideas, clearly...

Yeah, Nintendo should buy the team or if the team don't want to be bought, Nintendo should be its publisher. They can't go wrong. The games they made were better than Nintendo's.
I really don't like the navigation bar of Nintendo Life continuously reappearing while browsing!!

The blue-eyed animal is either a gecko, chameleon, turtle, or frog. The second animal is definitely a bird, but I don't know what kind of bird. It's hard to make out if its beak is long or short, which, if clearer in the brightness, would help narrow down the possibilities.
Since the bird is presumably in the lizard's (?) backpack, thus close to its head, I'd assume it's a short beak. To me it seems some kind of parrot.
I took a look at the picture again, and while think a Cat is still likely, there's also the possibility of a rodent being the foreground animal. The creature on its back is...too obscured to make out...
Hoping they'll also do one for Gemini, loved that game.
THIS. Couldn't agree more.

Cover shooter? (don't play shooters much in general, lol)
Gears of War ring a bell?
ENOUGH WITH THE OLD USERNAME REFERENCES!!!...
And I don't play those games.
(It was too good to resist, though) But do you know what it is? It's the poster boy of cover shooters. Look it up on Youtube or something. Literally 5 minutes of actual gameplay would tell you what 90% of those games play like...
