Rune Factory Oceans Announced For Wii And PlayStation 3

Capcom aren’t the only publisher putting out multiplatform games across the Wii and PlayStation 3. Marvelous just announced Rune Factory Oceans for both consoles in the latest issue of Japanese magazine, Famitsu.

Rune Factory: Oceans features everything you’ve seen in previous games. The dating-sim aspect, the ability to get married, the realtime combat. In addition, Rune Factory Oceans lets players control a male protagonist, Azel, and a female one, Sonia. Character changes occur mid-game.

Rune Factory Oceans introduces the ability to explore oceans on the back of a giant named Ymir. This giant will also be able to pick up entire islands and move them to new locations, although, it isn’t clear if this is some sort of scripted event or you can move islands around wherever you like. Famitsu mentions that you can fight on the back of the giant as well, which sounds like an interesting twist.

Rune Factory: Oceans is slated for release on February 24, 2011. The PlayStation 3 version supports the PlayStation Move controller.

Is that Wii or PS3 footage? I'll be covering this anyway (hooray for PlayStation Move support!) but it'd be good to know either way

Marvelous is offering a bonus for early buyers in Japan. With Rune Factory Oceans you will get a drama CD, art and setting image collection, some illustrations from various illustrators and a sort of 'beginner's guide' to the series - all pictured below.

Thank you for providing that trailer, it pretty much sold me on getting it day one! Well, alongside a PS3 at least, I'd rather get Rune Factory Frontier on the Wii.

The way he pets things in that video is hilarious, it looks like he's reeling in a fishing pole. XD

It is practically guaranteed that Rune Factory: Oceans Wii is the lead version. I say this because all the handheld versions of Rune Factory have been released on the Nintendo DS, Rune Factory: Frontier being a Wii exclusive, and Marvelous stating that RF: Oceans was originally being developed as a Wii exclusive (and in turn, most likely began development for the Wii).
This would be in the same vein as the Wii versions of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 & 11 and most notably Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, with both games being the lead version. So yeah, with this in mind, Rune Factory: Oceans Wii is most definitely the lead version.

With that said, I'm just curious about this, but do you by any chance own Rune Factory: Frontier? If so, while this wouldn't be very surprising but it is likely that Neverland Co. will end up implementing something similar to Samurai Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends' "Mix Joy" feature (which allows you share data and modes from Samurai Warriors 3 to SW3: XL) for Rune Factory: Oceans Wii. It'd be a nice gesture to owners of Rune Factory: Frontier and I can't even begin to imagine the interesting possibilities that such an interaction would provide.

@James Newton
I was wondering if you might care to inform Nintendolife viewers (and by extension, also informing many Rune Factory: Frontier owners) that Neverland Co./Marvelous are developing a sequel to RF: Frontier?

Wouldn't it be cool if you could take pictures in RFO like you could in Harvest Moon Animal Parade (HMAP)? The neat thing about the camera in HMAP was you could see in all directions while using it. I took some beautiful sunset pictures with it. Fantastic feature.

That's a great suggestion. I haven't had the chance to purchase HM: AP (even though it's been released for over a year), but based on what you said and if Neverland Co. has enough time and could implement this somewhat easily, then I very much look forward to being able to take some nice pics. Also, it'd be awesome if they ended up incorporating some connectivity between RF: F and RF: Oceans. Hopefully XSEED, after the splendid work that they did with RF: F, will once again be in charge of all the localizing aspects. If Rune Factory: Oceans Wii ends up turning out as well or even better than RF: F did, it looks like i'll once again be able to show my support and appreciation by happily voting with my wallet and in turn, rewarding all of their efforts.
