Topic: Why you love Final Fantasy?

I have only recently got my self into the Final Fantasy (was introduced to FFVII only 6 years ago) and I admit it is a strong series. I have dipped into other games in the series but I find it hard to get sucked into as much as my close friend (huge fan). So I thought I would find out from the fans why you love this series so much and what they think stands out the most. I have asked my friend the following questions and now I want some "third party" answers. So if you can spare a moment and answer the following questions I would be grateful. I will never down play a series without either trying in or by finding out what makes it so great!

Best/Worst game?
Best/Worst Character?
Best/Worst Summon
High Point of Series
Low Point of Series
What one aspect of the series do you love the most?
Next game you would love to see in "HD"?
People say FF VII is the "best game ever". Do you agree?
Best Memory
Worst Memory
Best/Worst Enemy Encounter
If there was something you could plant from the older games into the newer - what would it be?
What is the longest time logged & what game was it?

With so many Final Fantasy games coming out this year, there must be something bringing people back constantly

That reminds me, a friend let me borrow FFXIII. This'll be my first Final Fantasy...kinda. I played Dimensions for about 30 Minutes, but never went back to it.
Other than that, I've never played Final Fantasy, so I'll be starting my first fantasy in a few minutes.

Why did you start now? Just to find out what the hype is all about? After I finished 7, I was told 10 was the next best. I left it for a few years before I was ready to try it but then the HD was announced, so I waited. Not long now....

I thought most people say that 3(6) is the best. Never played any so I don't know (could never get used to the gigantic weapons and all that).

Final Fantasy is what started me on RPG's. In fact, I think the first game I ever played on the SNES was Mystic Quest and I loved it. People tend to hate it now though and I imagine it's probably regarded as one of the worst in the series. I loved FF2 and FF3 (american SNES) and pretty much every FF up to the PS2. If I had to choose a least favorite, I'd probably say FF8..? I don't really dislike any of those that I played.

My favorite FF game though is Final Fantasy Tactics. It's probably in my top 10 games of all time. I had probably 100+ hours on it. I'd love to see a new one on any system. I'd also like to see a Crystal Chronicles on the Wii U with online play.

Like I said, I haven't played a FF since the Playstation and mainly because I haven't liked the appearance of them and they all around just haven't been appealing. You could call Bravely Default a FF game and I would be saying otherwise. That game, at least my experience with the demo, is everything I'd want out of a Final Fantasy currently as far as combat goes. I plan on picking the game up when I have the cash. I used to be a FF fanatic but that died suddenly with Squaresoft.

I like every game for different reasons. This applies to all games. I don't like to put any kind of standards or requirements on games, since I'd prefer to enjoy every game as much as I can.

My favorite Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy V. It's great because it's a fun adventure that rarely tries to be more than that, but when it does, it shines brilliantly. The story won't win awards, yet it's probably my favorite story out of almost any RPG. Most importantly, it did the class system right. It allowed for a lot of creativity and flexibility while still providing the ease of stat/ability management that comes with classes. Sure it forces grinding, but I like to grind if I'm given a steady stream of rewards, which this system always provides. It was everything it set out to be, and it did it brilliantly. That's all I ever ask out of a great game.

My least favorite Final Fantasy is FF6, which I'll never understand the appeal of. The story just isn't that interesting to me. Maybe it was impressive for its time, but I don't think it holds up compared to a lot games that have come since its release. It just feels too shallow and melodramatic most of the times, with the occasional bizarre twist that always feel more Jarring than refreshing. The pacing is also all over the place, and I'm not a fan of the constant "mini-games" that you're often bombarded with. I just can't stand games that throw tons of new stuff at you, only to take them away without building on any of them. The characters are alright, but they just feel too...typical, even for its time. FF4 and 5 had far more interesting characters, IMO. Then there's the gameplay, which isn't quite broken, but certainly flawed in a lot of aspects. It's just too easy to exploit its many mechanics, leaving me feeling like the game just wasn't well-thought-out. There are glitches for certain things, too (IIRC, the Blind status doesn't do anything, for instance). It just doesn't feel as polished as a great game should.

That's all I got to say for now, maybe I'll answer the other questions later.

Just got into FF last year and so far I have played (but not finished any of these) 3, 6, dimension (prologue) and liked all 3 for different reasons (that is so far)
Hated 3 becuase I got to a part which I changed class and now I can't get anywhere without being killed, 6 on ios and it is the best FF yet and then Dimensions becuase the battle system seems perfect!
Also I can't play 8-13 becuase I don't want to have a PS machine or a XBOX machine

Though I think the series peaked during the SNES era and has been in gradual decline ever since (with a couple exceptions), I've enjoyed all Final Fantasy games on some level, except for the most recent Lightning Returns. I've played all of the main series games, all of the Chrystal Chronicles games, and Dirge of Cerberus.

Best game: Final Fantasy VI
Worst game: Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII
Best character: Terra
Worst character: Tidus
Best Summons: XII had my favorite summoning system. It perfected the idea of trying to make summons something other than just high damage/high cost Black Magic.
Worst Summons: The PS1 era of summons that all have a 5 minute battle animation. Summon Bahumat if you're hungry and want to go make yourself a sandwich.
High point: SNES generation (though the GBA remakes are the best way to enjoy these three games now)
Low point: Fabula Nova Crystallis
One aspect of the series that I love the most: That they are JRPGs
Next game you would love to see in HD: Final Fantasy IX. It had a great mix of classic and modern (at the time) elements, great characters, and an interesting story. Would love to see it remade in full HD.
Is VII the best game ever?: ...No... it's not even the best PS1 Final Fantasy. But it's still a very good game.
Best memory: Being about 9-10 years old and renting Final Fantasy IV (then known as Final Fantasy II). It was my first JRPG and it was the biggest gaming revelation of my life.
Worst memory: Seeing my credit card statement yesterday and being reminded that I paid for Lightning Returns.
Best enemy encounter: ¯(ツ)/¯
Worst enemy encounter: Cactuar -_-
If there was something you could plant from the older games into the new, what would it be?: I'll say Sakaguchi. His heart and fun has been missing since he left SE.
What is the longest time logged & what game was it?: Not sure. If you add up all my playthroughs of Final Fantasy V, that would probably be it. Endlessly fun job system gave it endless replayability. It would be a few hundred hours of gameplay.

I'm working through the series so far. I've finished only FFII (the famicom one regarded as the worst in the series) and I'm playing through FFVII. I was worried since the fandom seems to portray Cloud as the whiniest guy ever, but to be honest the characterisation so far is good! There haven't really been any cringeworthy moments and so far the cast interacts well with each other.

I've always wanted to play FFXII though. I tried a little bit of the SNES ones but I was too young then so I didn't get it.

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

You're going to just love Squall

FFXII was actually quite good! It's not very "FF-y" but it's a solid game on its own merits. Some of the most challenging and fun bosses in the series too.

Best: Final Fantasy VI
Best Character: Shadow (FFVI) Even though he is an optional character I love his backstory
Best Summon: My personal favorite is Hades in FF VII
High Point of the series: NES and SNES Eras
Low Point of the Series: The moment that it went into 3D with Final Fantasy VII
What one aspect of the series do you love the most? The Summons
Next game I love to see in HD: Final Fantasy. Yeah I would love to see an HD remake of the first games.
People say FFVII is the best do you agree? Heck know in fact I think that is when the series went downhill
Best Memory: Probably going to every store in my city looking for a copy of FFVI and not finding one. Only to get a copy from my parents for my birthday a week later.
Worst Memory: How the series has become
Best Encounter: Kefka. Come one name a time when every character in the game gets to battle the final boss. Not only that but his whole Archesper form is freakin sweet.
Something from the older games into the new ones: Honestly the sprite graphics I loved the simplicity of them that just seemed to fit the series well.
My first playthough of FFVI on the SNES I got the timer to 99:99.

I will be honest in the fact that after FF VII the series just went downhill to me. In fact the last one I played was FF VIII. The newer ones just dont interest me like the older ones do.

My FF fandom story will explain it all. I played it since it actually came out, my favorite RPG series. Even got the ROMs for those not released in the US. 6 was the best, released as 3 in the US originally because 3-5 was not released in the US. Gah, we suck. Anyhow, then I played 7 and went "WTF?" 8 was "not again." 9 was ....wait, which was 8 and which was 9? 10 was "this sucks." 11 I skipped.

12 I fell in love with, it was like 6 in so many ways, but still a lot of new things. Then I saw 10-2 released and .... Final Fantasy died that day.

Friend list is full, I will be clearing room for Bravely Default soon though. Colors! 3D Gallery, My Blog

My experience with the series has been all over the place, but I'll try to answer best I can.

Best Entry: Final Fantasy X - This was my introduction to the series (after Kingdom Hearts piquet my interest), and it was the first true video game "epic" I played, so I was in awe of it, I liked the Conditional Turn Based battle system, and I know I'm probably in a minority here, but I LOVED the sappy romance between Tidus & Yuna, lol. (Runner up: Final Fantasy IV)

Worst Entry: Final Fantasy - Yeah, this is probably a surprising answer, but I just got lost and never bothered to finish it (I was young at the time, so cut me some slack). I probably really should give it another crack one of these days. (Runner up: Final Fantasy XII)

Most Underappreciated Entry: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the Crystal Bearers - Yeah, this is a spin off & not a core entry, and it's really not even an RPG (it's more action-adventure), but I enjoyed it enough.

Best Summon: Anima (FFX)

Best Character: Auron (FFX)

Best Memory: Riding on Chocobos (especially in FFX & FFCC:CB)

Entries I've Played:

  • Final Fantasy (GBA Dawn of Souls collection)
  • Final Fantasy II (GBA Dawn of Souls collection)
  • Final Fantasy IV Advance
  • Final Fantasy X
  • Final Fantasy XII
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: the Crystal Bearers

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

Best Game: Final Fantasy VII
Worst Game: I dunno, how about the original Final Fantasy
Best Character: Kefka
Worst Character: Vanille
High Point of the Series: SNES and PS1 games
Low point of the series: now
Favorite aspect: Plot
Next HD game: Final Fantasy VII
Final Fantasy VII is not the best game ever, Majora's Mask is. Final Fantasy VII is in the top 10 though.
Best memory: the ending screen of Final Fantasy VII
Worst memory: I dunno, grinding
Best Enemy encounter: Safer Sephiroth
Worst enemy encounter: Malboro
What I would put from the old games into the new games: exploration and freedom
Longest time logged: 50 hours into Final Fantasy VII

the title is a good question nowadays

but I'll play along

Best/Worst game? IX/XIII. Both examples are the only time I will feel completely ok with (twice!) saying this sort of thing for games I've never played (ok I played like the first hour of IX once). IV/VIII if you don't want to count that
Best/Worst Character? Best is Steiner, worst is Titus
Best/Worst Summon: Not sure about worst but I'd say Anima in FFX is what comes to mind for best
High Point of Series: The 90s. Don't wanna be too nostalgia obsessed but...this is so true.
Low Point of Series: 2010.
What one aspect of the series do you love the most? (insert typical SNES JRPG praise here)
Next game you would love to see in "HD"? VII just to see if they'll actually pull it off properly
People say FF VII is the "best game ever". Do you agree? I loved the game growing up but I think most people have admitted this is incredibly false. Especially with stuff like Chrono Trigger, Xenoblade, Persona 4 and Mother 3 around
Best Memory: Celes' famous island scene from VI. Even playing it in 2007, that whole thing really stuck with me for whatever reason and it's when I finally got why people love the game as much as they do.
Worst Memory: You have never seen someone so miserable as I was trying to watch XIII's story.
Best/Worst Enemy Encounter: Dunno about best but that random boss creature in the sky of later parts of VI is awful and I hate it forever.
If there was something you could plant from the older games into the newer - what would it be? An understanding (or if what I've heard of XIV is any indication, I guess a more consistent understanding) of how to tell a story.
What is the longest time logged & what game was it?: I played a ton of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance back in the day, so that.
