I have never gotten into the Metroid series before. But since I like the Zelda series,I MUST play Metroid! I think I'm going to try Metroid Prime 2:Echoes and Super Metroid. So,what is you opinion on what is the best Metroid game?
Well, mainly because the Light and Dark gameplay intruge me. I like A Link to the Past's Light World/Dark World gameplay,so I thought this game would be better then Prime 1. Also,I heard it was harder and had a better storyline. I will buy Metroid Prime in the future though. I also own the original Metroid,Metroid II, and Metroid Prime 3.
When I tried to get into the Metroid series, I've started with Super Metroid. And this turned out to be a very good choice. This game really catches you fast, if you're a Zelda fan. Then you may want to play some of the other 2D Metroids first before you start with the Prime games.
About the trilogy, I really would advise you to play those games in order. Best thing would be to wait for the new Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Wii and play those games one after another with the shiny new controls. Don't start with Echoes, Echoes is by far the hardest part of the trilogy. You have to deal very often with some very strong enemies, you have limited beam ammo, the boss fights are lasting forever... we don't want you to be scared off. Play Metroid Prime first, so you're accustomed to the Prime gameplay.
Btw. my favorite Metroid games are Super Metroid, Metroid Prime and Corruption.

I don't know if I'll like the original Metroid. But I played Super Metroid a little bit last night, and I think I will enjoy this game a lot. How hard can Metroid Prime 2 be? If it's not harder then Mega Man [which I completed, even though it was very difficult],then it might not be too bad. However, the lack of save points concerns me a little bit. I'm just tired of easy games! Ocarina of Time was TOO easy, and A Link to the Past is a little more difficult but still easy from what I played so far. Majora's Mask was somewhat harder, but it was that good kind of harder. If Metroid Prime 1 is easy, then Prime 2 might be a decent challenge. But,I WILL buy Metroid Prime 1 sooner or later. Before I got into the Zelda games,I tried Metroid Prime Hunters,Metroid Prime 3,Metroid II,Super Metroid, and the orginal Metroid. I could NOT get into those games, but I think I can enjoy all of those game except the original Metroid. I might be an oddball, but I'm tired of easy games! I'm also going to be using an online strategy guide,I did that on the Zelda games. So,I won't be at a loss.
I might not buy the Metroid Prime Trilogy for 2 reasons: 1.I want to see how the traditional controls work out compared to the Wii controls. 2.If the game is a dual layer disc,my Wii might not be able to play it.
EDIT: Guess what? I called my local Gamestop, and they said they had Metroid Prime 1 in stock for just around $6.99! So this evening,I'll try to buy Prime 1 from Gamestop. If I managed to buy it from there this evening,I'll try Prime 1 first. If they don't,I'll try Prime 2. Either way,I win.
Prime 2 isn't that hard. Prime 1 is easier, but you unlock hard mode after, so if you don't mind replaying a game, you should be satisfied with that.
Prime 2's light/dark stuff is not as intriguing as you think, unfortunately. It doesn't hold a candle to the light/dark world of Zelda. Prime 1 is the best of the Primes, and probably the best to start with. Super Metroid is generally considered the best Metroid, so that might be the best place to start.
However, I enjoy challenging games, and the original Metroid packs a challenge on par with Mega Man (maybe not quite as bad). Not only this, but it emphasizes exploration more than any other Metroid game, which is what I like about it. There are dead ends. Hard-to-find secret tunnels. Lots of unnecessary power-ups. And one or two little tricks up the game's sleeve that would be spoilery to say here. Also, you can fight the bosses out of order (though there are only two), without any complicated sequence breaking like in Super Metroid, so it feels more like a true "open" world than Super's, which guides you along a bit.
Metriod prime 1. It was of the most challenging games I have ever played. Because there is no talking, you have to figure it out by exploration or reading things. I like that.
Well my first real Metroid game is Super Metroid on VC, which I bought last week. I've not played any Metroid games before (I have Metroid Prime Hunters but didn't like it, and I played Metroid Prime 3 at a friend's once though).
Very happy with Super Metroid! I'm really surprised at how advanced it was for its time.
For you, the day LordJumpMad graced your threads, was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday. [url=http://www.backloggery.com/jumpmad]Unive...
I would get the entire Trilogy, but that's just what I would do. If not then Super is awesome too. @Xkhaoz Same here, I beat the final boss on my first try with like 5 energy tanks to spare. But I think I died a couple more times throughout the game than you.
