If this is true and LPs actually completely disappear (which I doubt), it'd be a really stupid move for all involved. Copyright ethics aside, LPs actually help gaming companies with advertising because popular LPers sometimes play relatively unpopular games that their fans might end up getting because they liked what they saw.
I know this because it's happened to me personally.

As long as AVGN and Two Best Friends Play are OK, I'm okay (those are the only two that I really watch). But... that's still not very good for the LPers at large... AVGN was pretty much the first (or at least one of the first), too, and he really only plays old games, so I don't see him getting affected.
I think its just Youtube's 3rd-Party detecting system thing...or whatever...I've gotten copyright claims on various videos I uploaded. But none of my videos have been taken down, I think you have to click "Acknowledge" or whatever. Otherwise they may be taken down.

He isn't the first person to talk about this.... Another popular Nintendo Youtuber: Wynters60 is struggling with this. And a guy named Reviewtechusa also recently made a video about this.....
Apparently its really bad to show gaming footage of any game without permission?
I dunno whats going on but I think some Let's Players are fine because EXTREMLY popular Youtuber: theRadBrad is loading just fine and he shows game footage all the time.
I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

This is not good. I too view LP's to help decide if I want a game or not, and also find them more helpful than a FAQ if I ever get stuck in a certain title. Hopefully it just prevents monetizing on LP's, and doesn't call for a removal of the videos altogether, which would be the better of two evils.

This isn't anything to do with the companies, it's Youtube's faulty copyright claim. People are getting copyright claims even if the company themselves had asked them to make the video.
I don't think it's so much the end of Let's Play videos as the beginning of asking permission first. I'll bet none of the people affected so far actually requested permission from Nintendo before doing their videos. Why not try it and find out if it works?
edit: though if it's really YT's broken copyright claim thing going on, that's just YouTube being stupid, not Nintendo's fault.

Yeah its just Youtube's stupid detection system. Never asked permission, Rhtyhm Heaven Fever's videos never gotten any copyright claims, but Monster Hunter 3/U did. Wind Waker HD got some. (got claims on Gohma's and Kalle's video, but nothing on Molgera, lol)
So, yeah...their system is just...weird, lol

Nintendo is actually kind of open on their strict enforcement of copyright claims compared to other game companies. They're not exactly popular for it, but it hasn't stopped them. They did support SOPA before the press got wind of it at which point they pulled out of public support at least. Youtube DOES have a shoot first, ask questions later system of enforcement, unless you are a very well known youtuber or have a legal team backing you, sometimes both, your account has a good chance of racking up 3 strikes and being shut down permanently if you do let's plays. You even have very well known youtubers like TotalBiscuit who say he would have gotten 3 strikes already if he didn't have a company with lawyers backing him up and getting the strikes removed.
It's kind of silly if Nintendo is in fact actively taking down let's plays when you consider both the PS4 and Xbone have or are going to have upload straight to twitchtv support.

I don't think NIntendo has anything to do with this one. A lot of companies are apparently doing this though it does seem to be a Youtube update

From what I understand, this has been bizarre, random often unrelated parties doing this, either intentionally or because Youtube's automatic copyright system is awful. Major companies have been actively telling people to go against these claims, it's that bad.
