...Apparently I have that "free" upgrade thing, that won't go away...which is kinda bugging me. lol
Is this really free, or is there some catch to it? I also know that these new OS...es, tend to be buggy at the beginning, so...I dunno. T.T
What's everyone else gonna do about this?

Keep it PG-13-ish.
It's free for everyone who runs a legal Windows 7 or 8 in the first year of Windows 10 release. There's no need to hurry, you can upgrade in the first half of next year to avoid all early frustrations. Your current Windows will do fine until then.
You do realize that this is Microsoft we're talking about.
Formally called brewsky before becoming the lovable, adorable Yoshi.
Now playing:
Final Fantasy XIV (PC) | The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening (Switch) | Celeste (Switch)
They wanted to distance themselves from 8. Just like how everyone hated vista. I am currently typing this post on a windows 10 Technical preview copy of Windows 10. Love the Cortana integration. Project Spartan(replacement for IE) is smooth but apparently has problems with Nintendolife oddly enough. As @SuperWiiU mentioned, it really is free for those with Legit copies of Windows 7 and 8. Those notifications pop up because Windows update has already downloaded it(the notification not the actual OS) and is just letting you know.

Well the browser is optional right? lol
Also, what about gaming PCs? Since my computer was built for gaming, and I don't want to end up losing all my games even though I don't play them as much. xp

I believe the Official name for the browser is Microsoft Edge. It is optional. It will still come with IE as well. all the major hardware/software developers have been well aware of the coming of Windows 10 for a long time now. Drivers should be available for your gaming rig. As far as games they should remain untouched as the upgrade occurs and will just be moved over.

Couldn't hurt to look into it. In fact you could partition some of your HDD to make room for Windows 10 preview and try out the OS. If you're not tech savvy then just youtube some videos of Windows 10 in action.

Actually, gaming might even be a little better(for new games) because of DirectX12, which comes with Windows 10.
Guys lol, the reason Microsoft skipped 9 was because it would literally break certain programs that when checking for which version of windows was being used, sees Windows 9 and immediately assumes its 98 or 95 (since the specs for those two are about the same I gather). Why check for each one when you can do both at the same time.
EDIT: I'd like to mention that this is not limited to Microsoft either. It potentially has to do with anyone who ever wrote code for a computer program ever.

...Wonder what my card supports...>.>
EDIT: Eh, can't tell...looks like it'll only take 11.
EDIT 2: Ok maybe it can...the official Geforce site keeps mentioning 11 and 12 is nowhere to be found. lol
My card is GeForce GTX 750 by the way.
haven't used it in awhile but windows has a built in tool called DXDIAG that tells you your DirectX version and the version your video card supports. I've had DX 11 installed but my card natively supports DX10.(using as an example) just type it in the search box and it should bring it up

Go for it if you're rocking 8.1. All my computers are still 7, so I'm going to reserve my copies and wait for impressions on it before I actually upgrade.
I'm happy with Windows 8, and none of 10's features interest me that much. Except for Direct X 12. If my video card supports it, it's very likely I'll make the upgrade.
