Ah, I'm pretty confident in my security setup. I'm not on any dubious sites, I only download official things, and I'm always using anti-tracking programs + proxy.
What people do not understand is that Viruses are meant for newer OSes. In fact the anti-virus I am using has detected tons of treats from files I have stored on external hard drives from years ago.
Chances are your going to get one if you do not know how to use the internet. Back in 2003 I had only three places to go when I wanted to get something. People get viruses when they go through dozens of pages without knowing what is on the other-side.
@RegalSin Of course virus creators aim for the newest systems in hopes of hitting people before it's stabilized by optimized antivirus programs, firewalls, and updates/patches, but there are also countless viruses still going around, with some even dating as far back as Win2000. So technically, every OS remains a target, but newer, smarter, and more dangerous viruses tend to aim for the most popular or recent OS on the general market.
