There is no such thing as "just words." Words are the primary vehicle for civilized human communication. Without discernible meaning, there is no clear message. (if all word meanings are relative, then so is your message, which = communication failure)

The whole point of strong language is that it's supposed to be strong. If we use expletives all the time, they lose their very purpose. There are too many words in the English language to rely on the same, scant 3-to-5 letter offerings. If one uses the same, overused words all the time (with little meaning), then why even bother opening their mouth?

There's no such thing as "freedom of speech" even in the USA. Given this is a privately run board there sure as hell isn't any here!

If those words are never uttered they will only grow in size it's like the word gay/fag/homo that before was used as a way of discriminating but nowadays is more or less reclaimed by the gay community and used in a sort of positive manner.

I have never heard the word fag conveyed in any sort of positive manner. It's like calling someone a slut/whore when they have a strong sexual appitite.

On another game related topic. I don't get why people who beg for more violent, M rated games on Wii complain about too much profanity. I don't see people going to see an R-rated slasher flick and complain it uses the F-word.

LOL, this was revived? Funny, I felt a bit nostalgic when I saw it in the recent topics section on the main page.

Profanity is a way of exaggerating or stressing a point, a childish way at that.

Those that can't articulate their point without these stressed terms shouldn't be taken seriously.

This site should have a firm stance against profane language and I encourage people to make use of that report button.

This.

If it's overtly filthy and I come across it, I will likely take care of it on my own, but if it's borderline, I'll wait until someone's offended enough to report it. Either way, I rather enjoy replacing profanity with nonsense-words and/or baby-talk. >:3

Schkizzle knocker is my favourite non-profane profanity at the moment.

Perhaps not by heterosexuals but from the gay and bi community I can definitively see a lot of people trying to reclaim the word or at least kill it. As the N-word got owned by their community. Still for a white man or a heterosexual it's not ok to use these words whatsoever.

Btw I would totally, absolutely call a woman/man friend with a strong sexual appetite for a wh**e and I hope they will do the same unto me, just for fun.
