I'm around chapter 104. Really good series.

Today, we reached episode 29 or something of that number in which Luffy recruits an italian named Sanji to be his cook. I also began reading the One Piece manga in earnest (volume 8 as of today) and I plan to buy some One Piece merchandise this Christmas.

I sure hope we'll see a few One Piece games on the 3DS in the coming years and hopefully an official One Piece MMORPG. I think One Piece needs a lot more publicity in the United States as it seems to be underrated and under-acknowledged in this nation.

It's nowhere near "under-acknowledged" in the US; it did air on Fox and Cartoon Network one time back in 2004 and 2005. About 100 episodes were aired on TV before it was canceled due to low ratings.

Why? Well, even before the first episode was aired, it was doomed at the start. It was dubbed by 4Kids. If you don’t know who they are, they’re a dubbing company that has a big reputation for heavily changing everything from its original source material. One Piece was no exception. What they done have turned the show into a complete joke and ruined its reputation.

If you are curious about what they did to the show, let me summarize it:

The first thing you’ll see is a terrible opening. If you were able to sit through that without changing the channel or turning off your TV, you then had to listen to poorly dubbed dialogue and watch a heavily censored mess (just search “one piece 4kids censorship”, you’ll find plenty of videos).

4Kid’s have been doing this to Anime since Pokémon. When I found out about this a few years ago, I ended up despising 4Kids with a passion ever since.

Now back on topic:

I love One Piece, but to tell you the truth, I hated it when I first saw it years ago on TV. My reasons were pretty much what I already wrote above. I completely forgot about the show later on until just a few months ago after hearing that 4Kids sold the license and how “awesome” the Funimation Dub was. I decided to go to Funimation’s website and watch a couple of episodes. I was hooked (pun intended) after that.

Well it is For Kids. If you don't like the censorship, just watch the Funimation dub. It's pretty much uncut.

Uh, did you read all of my post? I said that I watched the Funimation Dub and liked it. Just look at the final paragraph.

Just saying to anyone who doesn't like the 4Kids dub to watch the funimation dub. Not just you specifically.

I am a HUGE One Piece fan, it is my favorite anime/manga series. The best way to watch the series is the uncut and awesome Japanese version with English subs. I both watch the anime and read the manga. Do NOT watch the 4Kids version, because One Piece is FREAKING RUINED in that version. As for where you can watch the Japanese One Piece episodes with English subs, just Google One Piece episodes and you will find one of the best websites out there for those episodes. As for where I am at, I have caught up to both the anime and manga a long time ago.

EDIT:

Also, One Piece was not made for kids, it was made for teenagers in Japan, which means the content if made in America would for young adults or older. Do you see a problem there? 4Kids blindy bought the license and tried to censore a MA rated (TV rating for the US) show down for 8 year olds to watch. It ended up as a total mess like I already said.

Regardless of the age demographic in my opinion from a moral point of view I deem it quite unnecessary to include such overly excessive vulgar content in a program aimed at children, teenagers or young adults and I most especially find it offensive and corrupting in something that is animated.

In addition, One Piece wasn't actually rated "Mature" but it had a rating in Japan that would be equivalent to that of a "TV-PG 14" rating in the United States. Even now on Cartoon Network many of the action/ adventure genre programs have a "TV-PG-V" or "TV-PG 14" and that's is to be expected with a program like Star Wars The Clone Wars, Justice League Unlimited, Superman Doomsday, Adventure Time, Generator Rex or Naruto.

My only quibble is that a program as Robo-Goose eluded to on page 1 of this thread doesn't need to contain "excessive blood and profanity". Profanity, drugs, sexual perversion and blood do not make a person mature in any way; in fact to be precise, those things actually degrade a person and in the long term will leave them as nothing more than troubled souls. Profanity, excessive blood lust and debased vices are the very things that lead to the breakdown of society.

Anyway, not to get off topic, but it is worth pointing out that Shonen Jump's manga and anime are aimed at adolescents, teenagers and young adults and to my knowledge they don't feature mature rated materials. As big of an Otaku as I am Even Bleach isn't rated "Mature" but "Teen". It's a most very frustrating thing when people start trying to run about squabbling "oh, this is for adults, it's mature". Snesh! That frustrates me to my very core! It's a sure sign of mental and moral wishy-washiness and immaturity.

Okay, now that I've gotten that burden off of my heavy heart let's get back to the discussion of One Piece as I opened this thread with the intention of discussing One Piece and not ethics; yet, I do enjoy philosophical and ethical conversations.

Hmm…so ah, I must say that Nami is one of the most difficult to understand personalities in One Piece thus far. That young girl has my mind scrambling at times. I really like Sanji and Zoro as well; he seems to hearkens back to my families personal favorite classic hero Zorro.

Also, could someone please tell me (with as little spoilers as possible) how long it is before I'll be meeting Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece? As I said earlier, the last episode I watched today was episode 42.

The first time I watched One Piece was back when I still lived in Italy (I don't believe 4Kids affected the European version). I've watched some of it, and from what I've watched it's really nice. I always liked how the main protagonist (I forget his name, I haven't seen it in awhile) could extend his arms and legs.
I never knew it was based on a manga until a few years ago.

Yes, Japanese standards are just much different. One Piece is family programming over there.

Has anyone used the Contact Us section of http://www.shonenjump.net? Because I've been trying to send in a question and it doesn't work. Instead of allowing me to submit my comment once I click the "send" button I came to an error page. Has anyone else experienced that?

Stereotypes do exist for a reason, although, the ones TokyoRed listed apply more to married women in their thirty's+ than to females in general.
Here's one for you people to whine about: little girls usually prefer barbie dolls while little boys usually prefer Hotwheels cars.
