Has a positive Nintendo Life review influenced you to purchase a game you wound up regretting? There are only 2 games I bought based mainly on a review that I didn't like; Helix and American Popstar. What about you guys?

i love to read the reviews on the wiiware games. they help me decide, but only play a small part in me choosing whether or not i will make a purchase. although i bought adventure island wiiware just from reading the review here at nintendo life. corbie's reviews on the Densetsu no Stafi series has me interested in actually making a few purchases!

i'm not really one to throw all my eggs into one basket; NL may help me make my decision, but they're never the only site i check for reviews on stuff.

I did let the Equilibrio review sway me (actually that might have been the IGN one -- oops!). I definitely find them helpful for titles where I'm on the fence, if for no other reason than describing the games. I'm still not sure about Evasive Space, but I'm holding onto my points since it's a bit pricey, even in Japan...

YES! Cybernator and Harvest Moon...

This is a little off topic, but did you guys ever consider having the user community here write reviews like amazon does? As good as the reviews are, it would be nice to get other peoples ideas about a game and more information especially for the 'ware games and Virtual Console. The comments after the reviews are more like "I gotta get this game" then other perspectives on how the game plays.

Slapshot

@Lady Gryphon...check the Forums for content on the games...lately just about every release has gotten quite a bit of user feedback prior to release.

As for me, Ive completely dropped IGN, GamesRadar for everything Nintendo. I really like the non-biased gamer love that is put into all the reviews.....even when its a game that isn't my cup of tea (most casual games). There is a market for everyone with Nintendo and this site really reflects that.

I guess I was more talking about an official place. The forums tend to be quite active and sometimes it's hard to find out more information about a particular game.

Well, people do like to make their opinions known in the review comments. I got some nice dissenting views for my Space Harrier review...

@Terranigma: Metacritic? Really? Do you read the reviews linked or just the /gag/ score?

I check here, Gamespot, IGN, and Gamefly for ratings. I never stick to just one opinion. Between the 4 I can usually tell if a game is worth it or not.

I don't really look at the overall score of the game, since certain things don't matter to me. Like if a game has a pretty high score mainly due to an awesome soundtrack and great visuals, but has slow gameplay and lack of story line, I'm more wary. I like sites that show ratings on different aspects of the game, rather than one score for the whole game.

@Sean: i know I go through the actual reviews... the score is handy (and hilarious) at times, but ultimately it's the reviews that really matter, and Metacritic brings a big chunk of them into one place for easy browsing.

The only reviews I ultimately trust are my own. For some strange reason, they're always spot on for me!

@irken

If it is anything like the previous MvDK games (and it looks like it), just get it. You can't go wrong.

then i can use my 200 spare points to buy the Super Mario Calculator!......not really

@irken004 It's great, trust me. Over on the third page of the 'Your thoughts on Mario VS Donkey Kong 3' thread, I told Cheezy what I think of the game. I thought you might want to hear another opinion, though I didn't cite some of the cons of the game in that post. Reply to me and I'll tell you them.

I apologize if it's taking me a bit longer. I just needed to play more of it to get a full picture of what's available. I'll hopefully have it by tomorrow if work doesn't somehow interfere. Anyway, I'd say it's totally worth it.
