Topic: Games you liked when you were younger, but hate now

Gamecubed

I was doing a little cleaning on the weekend and I found a few games from my childhood buried in the back of some cupboard.
One such game was Beyblade: V-Force for the Gamecube. I loved this game when I was younger. Why? I don't know. That was back when beyblade was all the rage on the playground along with yugioh and pokemon cards. So what did I do? For old times sake I threw the game into Gamecube and decided to give it a try. Five minutes in, i was like "wow... this sucks". I wasn't picky as a kid since we didn't have a lot of games, and I think this was a testament to that.

So what are some games from your younger years that you loved back then, but just dislike/hate now?

Looking back at my N64 games, I liked a couple; Extreme-G 2, Wrestlemania 2000 (I can't believe I liked that), and Jet Force Gemini. I dislike the first one somewhat, but the second one I despise. As for the third I like somewhat, but not a lot. It's really difficult and I never finished it, but if I could beat it, I would.

I just said this in another topic, Ice Climbers. Awful controls!

Shadow the Hedgehog was that game.
It was the first time I played a game with gritty elements towards it. And the first with a branching storyline. But to be fair, I do wish a new Sonic game had a branching storyline as well. Generations would have been pretty interesting with one.
Going back to it today, there were plenty of frustrating elements. Starting with combat. Missions were also frustrating at times. I never like the multiplayer then, but I tolerated it then.
I don't want to call this game a piece of trash, but it's definitely not my "favorite game of all time" like I might have said before when I was 8.

My siblings actually still like that game to this day.
I played alot of games as a kid and had little standards, but for some reason I never liked Shrek 2, despite it being a well received licensed game.

The Sims, any of them. Also Runescape, can't believe how many hours I logged into that game, how did I not get bored!

I remember really getting into a Jurassic Park licensed video game for the SNES. I thought it was cool, engaging, and scary.

Until I played it again about a year ago. That game is terrible.

Just for you.

I genuinely can't think of one. I mean, I don't think I went back to the genuinely bad games I played as a kid.

the closest I can think of is that I don't think I can tolerate the slowdown in Kirby's Adventure anymore, which makes me sad.

I actually almost beat it back in the day and looking back I just cant imagine I had the fortitude to pull off such an incredible feat.

I don't really revisit games from the past too much. If I'm playing a game that's old (like The Sword of Hope II, which I'm currently engaged in), it's probably a game I've not played or beaten.

Absolutely this. Every time I hear someone crying for a DK 64 remake or sequel I just cringe. WAAAAAY too much collecting. I mean, not only did you have to collect the bananas you had to do it again...with FOUR other characters.

Kingdom Hearts also didn't hold up well for me. I know everyone loves this series, and religiously hates everyone who doesn't like it, and will buy a $400+ system for it, but after going back and trying to play it again it feels so...empty...and boring...and every time Cloud makes one of those stupid forced appearances I can't help but curse and shake my head in shame knowing what Sqaure used to be (early FF, Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, etc.) and realize why I probably played this series in the first place: I was riding the teenage emo wave of their games that were actually good (and still are) and stumbled into this messily cobbled, fanservice-a-thon (how much do you want to bet xXSepirothXx will be in KH 3?).

I'll admit, Donald Duck's antics still hold up though.

I didn't really play to many movie tie in games but I was unfortunate enough to play finding nemo on the gamecube and it was my 3rd favorite game of all time as a child and a few months ago I played it at a friends house because his little brother had it and it amazes me how I didn't destroy every controller I had as a child due to an terrible game and LOADING...
