Topic: Game Series You Used to Like

To clarify, what are some series that you used to like, but now, for whatever reason, the newer games don't do anything for ya.

My list:

  • Pokemon - biggest one. Went from "obsessed" to "ho-hum." Things just never changed.
  • The Legend of Zelda - See Pokemon. Made worse by the countless other Action-Adventures and Action-RPGs that I honestly feel are better than what Zelda has to offer
  • Super Smash Bros. - See Zelda and Pokemon. Made worse by the fact that I've moved on to standard one-on-one fighting games
  • Devil May Cry - It hurts to admit this...I loved DMC3, but the first two have aged poorly, the 4th isn't that good, and the new one looks terrible
  • Burnout - it was all downhill after Burnout 3
  • Ace Combat - AC3-5 were great, Zero was pretty good, and then I don't know what happened, the quality just nose-dived.
  • Ridge Racer - It just seems like the series can't keep up with the times.
  • Armored Core - Lost touch with it after Nexus and it doesn't seem to have gotten any better since. With that said, I'm always hoping the next one turns out great so I can get back into it
  • Ratchet & Clank - They stopped releasing it on consoles I own
  • Spyro - It hasn't aged well and the newer games suck
  • Bomberman - The 3D titles were so good, yet the core of the series is so...sigh
  • Halo - It just got old after a while and it stopped having a great singleplayer campaign after the second one. With that said, I've yet to play Halo Reach, and while I'm not excited for it, I think it can change my mind. And I still wish they had released Halo DS.

Wow that was longer than it was supposed to be. Anybody else got any suggestions?

Final Fantasy.

As soon as that series went to PSone it went down hill the storyline were horrible compared to the older NES and SNES ones. They were all graphics and nothing else its a shame what happened to that series.

EA Sports games.

They were great at first but now all they do is change the roster and some minor things and thats it and charge you 60 bucks for it.

Tekken

I like the story line at first but now it just getting old. I am tired of seeing how dysfunctional the Mishima family is.

Noire

The Legend of Zelda and Sonic the Hedgehog. Though I never will stop hoping the next game brings me back.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Not to be a jerk or nothing, but if you think the series started its obsession started with the PSX, you're quite frankly mistaken. Quality graphics have been a staple of the series since at least the SNES days. Do you remember Final Fantasy 6? Do you remember how it seemed to make any excuse to show off how hard it was pushing Nintendo's little machine? And do you remember just how impressive the result was? I'd say that stellar graphics have always been a major part of a Final Fantasy game, the only thing that's really changed is that now you're actually noticing it.

With that said, I'm curious as to why you think the Post-SNES games are all about graphics and the quality of story has gone down. Specifically, I'd like you to tell me how the NES games have better stories than anything on the PSX, PS2, and PS3/360.

Mario Party Series
I used to love the game, but the monotonous pace the CPUs move at and that the game is solely based on pure luck really throws me off.
Mega Man X Series
A couple of years ago, I used to enjoy 1-3, but the crappy sequels and the realization that the original series and the Battle Network games are better made me really hate it.

Mario Kart - Don't get me wrong, it's still a fine series, but with little actual improvements over time and the somewhat cheap track design have made this series feel somewhat stale. Also, why are half the tracks just borrowed from previous games in the series?
Mario Baseball - Superstar Baseball was awesome playing against my brother on the GCN. Super Sluggers was practically unplayable for me.
Tony Hawk - 'Nuff said already.

Exactly.

You're not saying... the Battle Network games, any of them or as a whole, are better than Mega Man X... are you? D:

Burnout - Burnout Revenge remains the top racing game for me, because it's the perfect blend of racing, and destruction, and it cuts out all the bullcrap and gets straight to the action. Dominator was a letdown, and Paradise was just as bad, if not worse for having to drive to every damn event instead of just selecting it.
Final Fantasy - Loved FFI-IV, then VII dropped the ball big time with their poor characters, and Tactics came in with it's brilliant replayability, then VIII dropped it once again, so I said screw the series.
God of War - Loved it until beating the third. What happened at the end, well, without spoiling it, let's just say Kratos is a cutter. I cannot respect cutters.
Pokemon - I stopped at Gold/Silver. After that it became too much.
Super Smash Bros. - I refuse to play Brawl nowadays, and am alittle hesistant to play Melee. Simply because the more they add to the game, the more flaws it creates, such as attacks going through shields, or your character not grabbing ledges, or two attacks not clashing, or random tripping (IWATAAAAA). It's become garbage and unplayable for veterans like me who expect game mechanics to work.

There aren't many series I've grown to actively dislike, but many have gone from OMG AMAZING, BEST GAME EVAR! to yeah, it's pretty good.

Sonic the Hedgehog - Hopefully Sonic 4 will change my mind. The Rush games are OK, but I don't think the level design is quite as tight as the Genesis ones. I won't talk about the 3D ones after DC died.

Zelda - Don't get me wrong, I still like these games. I can't see ever recreating the feeling I had about the series during the N64 era. How do you improve on perfection?

SSB - Loved the N64 version. GCN was good too. I just don't see how Brawl really built on Melee. Series was best when it was just a simple beat 'em up on the N64.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.

Kirby. I still like it, but I realized that nearly all of the games in the series are ludicrously easy.

Right, same here actually, except I actually fault the series for it.

And now that I think about it, I used to like Mario Party as well, but now I don't really like mini-games at all anymore.

Sonic and Bomberman. You guys know the story behind both, so I have no need to say anything else.

Final Fantasy. Nope, nope, I hated it from before.

Okay, let me go again......

  • Pokemon - It's still okay but Nintendo's milking it a bit too much and they really aren't thinking much out of the box. A Pokemon MMO would've reeled me back in.
  • Burnout - It just got stale after 3: Takedown & Revenge.
  • Tony Hawk - He gambled a bit too much.
  • Mega Man - The Battle Network series were the most hated series in my book.
  • EA Sports Games - Roster changes don't really refresh anything for me, especially dropping cash each year for it.
  • Spyro the Dragon - After Insomniac let it go, the series just died.
  • Crash Bandicoot - After Naughty Dog let it go, it went down.

Mario Kart: Loved Double Dash because it's been the only one to actually incorporate skill into the game... then they went back to just luck. The rest of these I've heard are still good but people have just played them too much so it's less new.

Its good to see that I'm not the only one burned on Zelda games.Yes they are still great games but after playing nearly all the games (barring the NES ones) I've become really bored of the same formula.I've no excitment for Skyward Sword at all, which is juse weird!
Also like someone else said, I used to love Burnout till EA got hold of it.The advertising, overly exuberent 'announcer' and the daft free roaming ideas killed that series for me.

What's this bit for again?
