Anyhoo if this thread is about video games as art (of which I'm not convinced) then I definetly think that art is achieavble through the medium. Something like a Bullet Hell SHMUP or a rock hard super fast racer can put one in an altered state of mind where total concentration is required which I would classify as art ,just as a symphony could be classed in the same way.
Then of course you have the more obvious comparison with art in the graphics. A lot of game graphics can also be said to be art imo. Something like ICO which leaves a prevading empty haunting feeling to the player is art because it touches the soul. Things like Okami and Zelda WW art is comparable to the best cartoons so should also be viewed as such. Even 8 bit RPGS which fire the imagination are artistic.
Of course I could be talking absolute BS ,but if a light switch in a room full of bricks can be considered art then games also have a rightful place in the art world.

Meh. If Ebert believes all movies are art, then I guess you could consider that all games are art, especially since video games rip off movies and books (Halo, Starcraft, to Starship Troopers, Alien, Ringworld, etc.). But it's not like Ebert hates video games though.
Also IMO Perfect Dark and Eidos FPS games are more "Artlike" then Okami and Windwaker because they are artistic through gameplay not graphics.

I think "art" is subjective. In fact, I know it is. There is no scientific criteria to "art". In my opinion, anything you create is "art" to some extent.
