I take back those negative remarks i mentioned about PilotWings Resort, as I'm officially in love with the game. Like i said in one of my previous posts, I've only played around an hour of it when i unboxed my 3DS on the 6th, but I never bothered checking out the free flight mode, nore did I realise the skill that was involved during the Mission based modes since i just skimmed through a few or so of them without even trying to get 3 stars. I was mainly just checking out the 3D effects at the time.
But now I've dropped 2 hours and 1/2 into it and I'm lovin the experience. Free Flight Mode is a joy to play, especially on Night mode, it's kind of surreal seeing the island during midnight with the moon beaming in the sky coupled by the mini city lights sparkling everywhere in dazzling magical 3D when using the Jet Rocket especially.
And hands down, and many will agree....Nothing beats the Rocket Belt, at least out of the main 3 to chose from. They're all fun in their own way, but i feel that the Rocket Belt offers the tightest, most complex and technical controls of the three. Then again, once I eventually unlock the squirrel suite i may change my tune! And I've heard the Squirrel suite theme during a PilotWings resort gameplay video and the music is flat out Nintendo-ised high octain techno which i love hehe.
Anyways, I've completed both Training and Bronze for the mission based modes with 3 stars(With some being perfect) for all of the stages and i can't get enough of this game. Free Flight took up most of my time however, need to snag 16 more I's and get all of the white balloons and whatever else is in store once i unlock whatever else there is to unlock.
And again, the 3D is just incredible when selecting the Rocket Belt.....Aghhhh I love this game. So what if the characters aren't PilotWings 'distinct' or that the island is from Wii Sports Resort(which goes against everything i said before the 3DS was even released) this game is a total joy to play and the 3D makes it 5x more amazing than it actually is. 3D really does enhance the experience, it's insane how it makes the experience so much more fun, eye popping, immersive and amazing to play. It's like you're controlling a little minature toy version of yourself in a window to another 3D virtual world.
Anybody who says 3D is a gimmick needs a total Mondo Mega slap in the face, the 3DS's 3D is flat out incredible.

It's a gimmick.
But yeah, it took me 10 hours to complete the game (all three stars and found everything). I'm very happy with the game since I got it for basically free from Amazon, haha.
I made Kid Tripp! PocketGamer gave it a 9 out of 10! You should totally buy it now!

I don't think it's a gimmick at all, it totaly enhances the experience big time. The depth, the pop out effect with the glider and the like. It's a window into a tiny magical 3D world and it's knocking my socks off.lol It changes the way you look at videogames for the better. It's wonderful shniz bud!

"In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries."
It's a gimmick, lol.

Usually when somebody calls something a gimmick they're basically coming off as if it's a negative thing, something that won't last. You're just giving us the standard definition.lol
Anyways, I'm almost finished up PilotWings....I think. I haven't unlocked the so called Platinum Cup, since i need to get 3 stars for 2 more stages. And they're both to do with the glider. I'm having a real hard time trying to get air when getting blasted upwards in those toranado currrents(whatever they're called) One stage requires you to get higher than 1500 ft, i can only get up to 1480, or around that. It's pure frustration to no end.
You're supposed tip the nose of your glider at the right time apperantly. Anyways, plus i've got to finish up Free Flight mode with the Glider as well. But yup, I having a killer time with this one. It's crazy how much more fun and interesting the 3D makes the game.
And by the way, after the 2 & half hour mark, or around that without taking breaks the 3D effect for me becomes altered. I start seeing ghosting, the Mii/Air craft becomes less sharp and almost doubles and the 3D effect becomes less noticable. Anybody else get the same thing?

I completed Pilot wings early on and didn't fancy replaying. By complete I mean 3 stars in everything, not perfect scores! That was very frustrating. However a few months later it's awesome again, nice and relaxing in places, but hard to complete it.
I'd also add in some comments on 3D - SS4, looks beautiful, although probably adds the least value to me. However many people buy other consoles on the basis of beautiful looking games. And it plays well too.
PES11 - I've found this very tough to get into, partly cos my brain is stuck on a FIFA button configuration and I'm too stubborn to change it. But again, crappy menu's aside, it is a very good game - and the 3D - I find helps slide tackling a lot. Definately an added bonus over 2D. Pick your views carefully I would suggest.
Lego POTC - nice easy game although some of the final bottles are frustrating to find. The 3D effect is subtly but I think again adds value when walking the planks etc.
I've just got Zelda so not tried it yet - but in my experience to all those who say the 3D adds nothing, maybe it's personal preference but to me they do. Maybe not as revolutionary as some people were thinking, but much better than 2D and for me makes the environment much richer and nicer to play. And thats with the first crop of games. I had a US DS on day one (I'm in the UK but was there for work) and aside from Mario64 it was a while before devs really got stuck in. I read somewhere a comment that while the launch games weren't AAA, they were solid and the whole system reaks of potential.
I'm off to play Zelda OOT! - PS in the UK i registered my copy at 15.30 and it was still saying I got the CD. Apologies if most of that went of PWR topic.

@Chris77Dude....Anybody trying to score 'Perfect' 3-Star ratings on Mission Mode stages in PilotWings Resort has either got way too much time on their hands, must love frustration, killing some extreme time or has the most crazy amount of patience in the world.lol I would never submit myself to such extremes and torture haha.
But ya, going for 3 star ratings is what it's all about. Oh and have you completed everything in Free Flight Mode?Meaning the White Ballons, Island's(I still have 2 left to find) ect ect?
As for SSFIV I'm not a big fan....Actually, I'm dissapointed with it thus far. Like i've mentioned earlier, it just feels a bit clunky, stiffer, slower and doesn't flow well and perform as quick as SSFII HD Remix, which is my fav SF game hands down. Plus, you only get 3D running at 30fps....Switching it to 60fps is so much nicer, but then you obviously lose the 3D effect AND you can't seem to play online matches on 60fps, then again maybe you can in the custum set up that is. But ya...I'm selling my copy, I just don't like how it controls compared to SSFII HD remix...They butchered Ken, he's so much slower... I wish i had gotten Super Monkey Ball 3D instead.

@PixelmanDid you just delete your comment? I guess you're right....Yet many people do in fact throw the word gimmick around as if it's a bad thing. I see it so much on IGN, but then again, trolls and retards and uninformed brainless twats and crazy fanboys run ammock on that site.

Also I think the word you're looking for is "amuck." (or amok, whichever you prefer, lol)

@waveboy - yea I think I got perfect up to silver, but beyond that it's pretty hard. I commute and travel a lot!
I did complete the free flight mode. I found that equally if not more rewarding. There's a nice surprise when you've got them all, nothing major, just a nice touch. I was going thorugh the missions again (3 star) and then waiting to do the free mode together.
I haven't actually played SSIV all that much, but I was thinking it might grow over time. The resale value isn't that great here now, I think amazon have it for £15 now.

I only got to the 4th class and then I quit playing Mission Mode. It just got too frustrating for me. I still can't do a barrel roll in the plane and the next mission requires it. ._.
I do like to fly through Free-Flight Mode, check out the pretty scenery and take 3D pictures still though.
When I close my eyes, I see pixilated blood.

I think the replay value in this comes down to just how damn good you are at nailing all the cups with perfect stars if you're that type. Or perhaps it's unlocking all the vehicles that are hidden and then doing every last ring, target, bubble, etc challenge in free flight mode. It's whatever you make of it, but unless you're Mr Perfect it is going to take a LOT of hours because some of the tasks are just downright vicious and nitpicky to no end. I saw that 1500ft glider challenge brought up, that was nasty, but I did nail that one once and that was fine though I think I 2 starred it in the end (don't remember.) Pilotwings has always been a fun and relaxed casual affair for me where I'd get the points to move on, now sadly it's more about pickier stars so I just do my own thing and enjoy the ride.
I'm having more fun I think using the flying bike and some of the other weird stuff free flying around and trying to get all the weird stuff picked up as it extends that clock which is good.

I cant get past around 1488. I loathe that stage to no end, and I have to get 3 Stars on it knowing me, after all i wan't to unlock the Special Cup. And Hell I can't even get 2 stars on it considering gaining those extra points is another problem all together when trying to do so within the time limit.
Aside from that stage, there's one other Glider level in Gold mode that i can't get 3 stars on, and it has to do with getting more air with the glider again. There's this ring high above, or there's 2 of them that i can never seem to reach no matter what!

FINALLY I finished the 2 last stages for the Platinum Cup and 3 starred everything, which then unlocked the secret Diamond Cup.Which consists of 3 stages, I've only played and and gotten 3 stars on the Super Rocket Belt stage....And man what an intense blast that was.
2 more stages to go, along with finding the rest of the goodies in Free Flight and I'm finally done with this game.Free Flight mode is driving me nuts though, I need to find one more Island and alas', no luck no matter how much ground I cover.
I'm so pumped to play Zelda: Link's Awakening DX....But I'm going to go through Nintendog's + Cats, Excite Bike 3D and Super Mario Land first.

Blaghhh, I still can't find the last Island in Free Flight Mode, yet I've finished the Diamond cup with 3 stars for all of the stages, and I've completed the Free Flight mode with the Belt Rocket and Plane Pats shouder on the back* yay me. haha.
As for the Glider. 5 more Gold Rings and 2 Ballons left to go and I'm done...But finding them is pure torture. And there's no way I'm going to try and get 'perfect' 3 stars rating to unlock the final 'whatever' for all of the mission based stages, that would basically be a near impossible time wasting nightmare.

Hey guys. interesting topic . I also got Resort and SF4 at launch and SF4 is pretty boring for me, I think I'm going to sell it while people still want it. Something about standing in front of the same people punching and kicking over and over with little story gets dry really fast. i wanted to like it but got bored, and I was a little bored with the ease of Pilotwings and the re-hash of the island too, but you all have convinced me to give it another chance. I do wish that there was more new stuff to the island or even some hidden other completely new area or something. Why the exact same island with no-one on it? I've actually been playing Excitebike so much I haven't touched it, so I need to go back and complete everything to see what else I'm missing. Plus I haven't gotten my Zelda yet, either and thats going to eat up everything as soon as I get it.
