Just downloaded this and I've got to say, it's one helluva cool game It takes 320 blocks of space. It mixes old school Game & Watch type scenes with new 3D battle comic style scenes. This game's got class! I'm very surprised because it's by UFO Interactive, who isn't known for their uhem quality titles. I think perhaps they've made their mark here, though. Just started playing it so further impressions will be coming. Let me know what the rest of you guys think...

It combines gameplay from (so far as I can tell after playing for 45 minutes) Game & Watch's ball, parachute, and other games. The "ball" clone is you basically bouncing bombs off of your feet and it can be pretty tough at first. Every time you "continue" you shave 5 minutes off of your entire gameplay time (yes, there is a counter at the top of the elevator.) I died for good on the 4th or 5th floor. From what I can tell there's no high score board, but I need to look around a bit more. Loving this, though. Innovative and different, for sure!

Nintendo World Report gave it a 4.5/10. Said G&W inspired levels were poorly paced, and felt like a cr*ppy version of Donkey Kong. Said that the beat 'em up segments get really repetitive fast.
I'll still wait for NL's review, but it's not looking good.

None. I've never heard of a reviewer (professional) judge a game by the people who made it.
I'm pretty sure I've heard a reviewer from NL be skeptical about a game before it was released because of the publisher. I think it can sway opinions if people have certain expectations and then focus on the weak points or strong points of a game that agree with those expectations. I'm going to wait for a few reviews of this game, because reviews can differ by a lot sometimes.

People will always let personal opinion get in the way of reviews - it just comes from the subjective viewpoint reviews are based on. The best reviewers dont let this become an issue, but yes some reviewers will judge this game more harshly for being from UFO. None the less - it shouldnt be hard to find good sources of info on a game beyond a few reviews. You'd be stupid if you always purchased games based on a single review though - that's just one persons opinion.
I never trust reviews when it comes to 3DSWare games because reviewers don't know what the hell they want. Bird Mania 3D was bashed big time by a fair amount of reviewers but the game is actually really fun. I'm downloading Johnny Kung Fu right now, I hope I like it but if not I'll just be more careful when it comes to downloading future games from UFO.

Without question we're nervous about developers who have underwhelmed us in the past, and excited about new titles from those who make the games we enjoy. Why wouldn't we be? We want to have fun, too.
But rest assured that every review takes into account that particular game's merits and demerits. We may mention the developer or other games in order to provide a frame of reference for the reader, but no game gets dismissed or praised on the strength or weakness of the developer alone. We will always evaluate a game for what it is.
I just want Johnny because I am a Game and watch addict. A BIG ONE. Is it worth the buy if you just simply like those styled games? NWR did give this a 4.5 out of 10

The beat 'em up levels are fun, the old game and watch based levels are hit and miss. I have to be honest though, I kind of regret buying it at the current asking price. But, if it's ever on sale for $1.99 or cheaper through an EShop promotion it's worth a look.
