Topic: Does your lower screen rim leave marks on upper screen?

I get those marks all the time and you know what?
They always wipe right off.
Unless you guys are being too rough or wiping it off with a brillo pad I don't know why it's leaving permanent marks.
If you'd keep the frame of the lower screen clean you shouldn't be getting the marks.

Usually it doesn't leave scratches. Up until a week ago, I was fine. I bet that before closing it one time, it had a grain af something sitting there that ended up scratching. This isn't a carelessness issue by any means. I am so protective ad careful with my 3DS its borderline ridiculous.

Well if you say so. Actually my 3DS has a slight nick on the very edge of the top screen underneath.
This was right out of the box too. It's barely noticable though. Screen protectors probably aren't the cure all either.
What if dust got underneath it before you put it on? Then you'd have a problem.
I doubt Nintendo will be making a redesign. They are having enough trouble selling the standard unit.

@Treverend and @Birdman: Yeah, I would suggest calling the support line, wading through the automated options to call about a 3DS, set up a repair, speak to a representative, etc., explain to them you got one of the 3DS systems with rubber feet that are too short, and try to set up the repair with them. They'll walk you through it step by step, rather easy-like.

Keep in mind, though, I haven't yet sent mine in. I asked about it when I set up the repair for my Wii the other day. I sent off my Wii the next day, but if I sent off my 3DS, too, I'd have no video games, and while I could live, if given the choice, I like playing games, so I am waiting to set up the repair until after my Wii returns. I only asked about cost for future reference. So there is the slim margin for human error that it may be a costly fix... but I think the $75 figure you saw, Birdy, was for a warranty-less repair.

Nintendo always says if you haven't modded your system (or done anything stupid such as run over it in a car to see what would happen, and then complained about it not working), and still have your warranty, they will fix it free of charge. So I'd be VERY surprised if you ended up having to pay.

I just used the rubber "feet" of an X-box 360 and placed it on the top left and right of the system.
It works pretty good, my screens don't touch anymore.

Yeah, both me and my sister have gotten the scratches and we've been extra careful with our systems. My sister's 3DS will be sent to repairs because it has some issues, and they'll also fix the scratches. I'm thinking of sending mine to Nintendo sometime before my warranty ends, so I'll get my scratches removed, though they aren't that bad yet.

We tried to apply some GameStop screen protectors to avoid further scratches, but applying them was a nightmare and we couldn't get them to work in the end. But at least something good came out of buying them: we got this big cleaning cloth with the protectors and cut it in half. Now both of us have one half of the cloth between the screens whenever we close it. That should teach that darn design flaw its lesson .

I'm getting a 3ds once the price drops. I am wondering if i put a silk cloth in the middle of the 3ds when i close it if it will stop this from happening?

No but it leaves finger-print/grease marks, as does the circle pad. No scratches thank the Almighty(DQIX).

@bro2dragons - Actually, I went through Nintendo's online support site of problems with the 3DS, found the one that corresponded to my problem the best and went I went to start the repair process, it said because I still had my warranty they'd give me a $40 discount, lowering the price of the repair from $115 to $75. I went, "no f***ing way in hell am I paying $75 for repairs other people on this site are getting for free," left the page, and posted here to see what you and others did so I could (most likely) get the same discounts you people are getting.

Exactly.

Yeah, the top screen might get some stains when you have the cloth between the screens, but it's easy to wipe those off, and you'll never get any get any scratches when you have the cloth there. And it's not that hard to clean the screen, so I'd say the cloth is a much better way of protecting the 3DS than any screen protector.

Huh. Yeah, I was told it would be free. My Wii should be coming back in sometime this week. Once it's in, I'll be making the call to set up a 3DS repair. I'll come back then and let you know how it goes.

@bro2dragons - I might beat you to that. I'm planning on calling them this afternoon about getting it fixed, so I'll be sure to report my findings here.

Well, I just sent an e-mail to Nintendo about the problem, as their phone support line was confusing as hell, so I'm hoping to hear back from them soon.

I have the same problem. However, I got screen protectors the first few days I got the system. I just wipe it off and its fine. The corners on the bottom are rather sharp, so if you have it some tight pants I can see it pressing extra firm to cause permanent damage.

A lot of people are saying, "I'm waiting for a 3DS lite" crap. Are you really commenting on a Nintendo fan forum to wait almost 1-2 years until you decide to get one?

Ok, I got an e-mail back from Nintendo last night at the very convenient hour of 11 P.M., telling me to call their Customer Service Department. Fml moment aside, I literally just got off the phone with the representative, who, after I described my problem (using the phrase "manufacturing defect"), mentioned that it should be completely covered under the warranty. Success! Anyway, the rep also mentioned that when I'm sending in my system, I should take out my SD card and leave the wireless off unless I didn't mind getting some StreetPasses. So, it looks like I may not have my 3DS for up to 3 weeks once I send it in, but hopefully it should be back for me to claim my NES games and before anyone at my school loses interest in bringing their 3DS to school for StreetPasses.
