Yes I thought I was the only one. At first I thought it was just a smear, but its a scractch because I have tried wiping it off several times. Its a pain to look at too. I just got the thing too, its really making me mad.

Yeah it's a pretty big design flaw from Nintendo. Really needs to get fixed. Screen protectors fixes it though. I just get smears that can easily be wiped off.
Looking forward to: No More Heroes: Travis Strikes Again

What exactly is sending your 3DS in to Nintendo going to do? Are they gonna file down the outer rim of your bottom screen so it doesn't leave marks? Seriously people you are all getting way too fixated on this very minor problem. If it was such a major design flaw don't you think Nintendo would have addressed this by now?

Why am I the only one on the planet that isn't getting permanent marks from this? I bought the same design of 3DS everyone else did.

What color is everyone's 3DS? I just remembered that one of the questions the rep asked me was what color mine was, so it could be a manufacturing defect affecting only Cosmo Black 3DSs (the color I have).
@Link79 - Here are my answers to your questions in post #110: 1. Nintendo will replace my outer screen and replace or elongate the rubber feet on the lid of my 3DS so that the two screens don't touch each other. And I will get a free warranty extension, and that's always helpful 2. Answered with #1 3. Well, they probably have; they just didn't announce it to the world so that they wouldn't destroy their reputation even more after OpRa and the other stuff.
@ Birdman13 I didn't know they would actually change anything about your 3DS rim. I just thought they'd repair the screen. Still, sending it away for possibly three weeks everytime you get scratches seems like alot of trouble.

@Link79 - Well, that's what I think they'll do, as I did mention I thought it was a manufacturing defect. And besides, I'd rather have my system break down and get fixed now and not when there's a lot of good games out for the system like Bit.Trip Saga, MK7 and SM3DL.
@ Birdman13 I guess that makes sense to take care of the problem now. One time I had to send my Wii away three times in a month. As you could imagine I was rather frustrated. Hope you have better luck with your 3DS.

Permanent scratch on my top screen (on the left hand side) caused by the lower screen. It's identical to ones I've seen on pictures on other forums, and I already had it before I realised other people were having problems and I should be using a screen protector.
It's really annoyed me because I look after all my stuff pretty well and have 2 DS Lites and a DSi without any noticeable marks on the top screens. I didn't think I'd damage the 3DS just by closing it normally
Yep, I double checked about the warranty, called Nintendo to make sure the parallel scratches on the top screen caused by the lower screen surround was covered, and went back to playing OoT. I am as much of a freak as you can be about keeping my 3ds (and laptops, motorcycle windscreens, sunglasses, etc.) clean and scratch free, and despite multiple cleanings per day when I'm using the 3ds the top screen scratches keep getting worse and worse. I just hate to be without my 3ds for weeks while it is made right, and especially wouldn't want to be on the sidelines when my new "ambassadorship" comes through, so I'm holding off for a little longer.
I also managed to deeply dent my HOME button-ish pad with my thumbnail when I hit it while rushing to take a phone call. Grrr.

Actually, the NES games are scheduled to come to Ambassadors on Sept. 1 with the GBA games (and multiplayer updates for the NES games) to come by the end of the year, so if you were to send it in tomorrow (Aug. 12), 3 weeks from now it would be September 2nd, the day after the Ambassador titles would become available. With no significant releases (as far as we know) coming until Star Fox 64's Sept. 9 launch, now would actually be the time to send it in imo.
