Well, the PS4 certainly has some interesting titles lined up (No Man's Sky...!!!!) and it's possible, that I will be buying the console at some point, but at the moment I don't have any urges to do so. The Wii U and 3DS are completely fulfilling my gaming needs.
I mean......wow. This is the only thing Mahe ever talks about. EVER. I wonder if this rant is going to continue through the rest of the expected 5-6 year lifespan of the Wii U. Seriously, I would suggest therapy of some sort to get over it.
In the simplistic world of Mahe, all of Wii U's problems come from the Gamepad. If Nintendo would done the same trick with it's console, as it did with the wiimotes in 2006, it would have instantly become the same kind of success, the original Wii was. If Nintendo was to drop the Gamepad and focus on wiimote waggle control, would the Wii U instantly rise back to Wii-level sales. It doesn't matter that there's absolutely nothing to back this claim up and that pretty much no-one agrees with him; he doesn't like the Gamepad, so that's how it is. It doesn't matter, that pretty much all of us bought the original Wii and not that many of us were satisfied with the Wiimote motion controls and not that many of us would buy a new console with the same trick as the selling point. It's the 100 million Wii owners behind Mahe's back to prove his point. It doesn't matter, that it's a completely different world now, than it was back in 2006. According to Mahe Nintendo reached a perfect design philosophy with the Wii; the golden ratio of console design. The only thing that can ever be improved is better graphics and it will keep on selling like the original Wii did until the end of time.
And that's exactly how it should be. The Gamepad is a fantastic piece of hardware, now it just needs to be used to it's max potential.
Besides, if you look at the comments here (or pretty much anywhere, where the topic is discussed), people really like the Gamepad. Leave Mahe out and the feedback is really positive.
I don't get all this "sell out" whining. I mean....this is not only marketing for Mercedes, but Mario Kart also. I'm personally glad Nintendo is being creative promoting their product. Lack of such is one of the main reasons why Wii U is performing so poorly. How exactly is this different from the Shell or Mc Donalds campaign, other than you're actually getting some DLC stuff....?
Have you actually read any of the recent news regarding Nintendo's plans for E3? It's going to be new, Gamepad focused content all the way, and that's EXACTLY what they should do. The problem with the Gamepad is that so far it hasn't been used very creatively, making it more or less a dead weight. The solution: start using it creatively. Simple as that.
Exactly. The Gamepad has absolutely huge potential and it's easy to come up with ways to use it in ways that would bring totally fresh and innovative experiences to gaming. Dumping the Gamepad and dumbing the Wii U down to the level of prev-gen HD console/HD Wii would be the dumbest move Nintendo could do, but gladly it's not going to happen. It's not going to happen. End of story.
EDIT: besides, what comes to the percentages above, it doesn't seem like that many people even want Nintendo to dump it.
The concept behind the Gamepad is fantastic, how it's been used so far is not. Still waiting for Nintendo to actually use the massive, unexploited potential. I'm glad Nintendo are sensible enough not give up on it, but instead will be focusing on it in the upcoming E3, just as they should do. I never believed they would be dumping the Gamepad (even tho Nintendo has been making some pretty bad choices in the recent history), but it's good to have it confirmed by them. If they would dump the Gamepad, I would dump the Wii U.
It's funny how this "Nintendoomed"-rant practically dominates every nintendo related topic nowadays. Even wonderful news like this motivates the most dedicated doomers and haters to continue their rant about financial losses, end of Nintendo and how focus should be shifted to mobile gaming. Give it a break, you guys!
Well, I can't say I would agree with many of these. First of all, I don't want my portable games to compete in visuals/processing power/resolution with home consoles. I want portable games to be portable games. In fact, I wouldn't mind going back to 2D pixel graphic focused hardware with cartridge medium. One of the reasons I love the DS/3DS is because at times it's games still remind me of the Golden Era of video gaming (the nineties) and that's partly due to focus being somewhere else than raw processing power. I couldn't care less for increased processing power, HD graphics or such. I want awesome portable games like Advance Wars, Pokemon etc.
Also, dropping physical media out would make me reconsider investing in the platform. I ALWAYS buy a physical copy if available and DL only Indie/VC games or such.
I don't mind Nintendo trying out new things. In fact, it would be great if they would launch a separate system aimed at the casuals and succeed with it. But I'm not the target demographic for this. I'm not interested in Wii Fit or Brain Training. I want to know what they have planned for people like me! Iwata keeps saying that video games will remain the main focus of Nintendo, and I want to hear how. This E3 is the last call for the Wii U and it's about damn time for Nintendo to start building hype and convincing us that they have some cool stuff lined up. It's not time to start babbling about this QoL (especially without anything solid to say), it's time to make Wii U work!!!!
Ah well....you know....I payed a fair amount of money for my Wii U, so getting cool games for it like, say, Starfox, Metroid, Zelda, F-Zero, Waverace, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Pilotwings etc. would definitely improve my Quality of Life.
The fact that Nintendo didn't make it with the Wii U doesn't mean there's no money in video games to be made. They didn't even TRY with the Wii U, for the love of god. Before Iwata goes to anything else, I want to see him put a solid effort on the system.
With all the video games revolving around killing people, same sex marriage is in fact the topic that gets all the religious people fired up. Same sex marriage is about people loving each other.
Wow...I mean wow. This topic has really brought out the true nature of Nintendolife community, hasn't it? I'm truly amazed at all the religious craziness here. It's hard to believe it's 2014.
I don't understand how same sex marriage would be a problem in the game as long as you can choose which sex to marry. Just like in real life, isn't it a matter of personal choice?
I'm disappointed in Nintendo that the chose to stick with this narrow minded and conservative mentality.
It was a really bad call from Nintendo to delay the Wii U version. I mean, I was going to buy it, but why would I wait for it, when everyone is playing the 3DS version this summer? Why would I buy the same game with better graphics later on?
A lot of people could consider buying a Wii U when MK8 launches, if there'd be other cool titles up ahead in the same launch window, but what is there in between MK8 and SSB winter launch??? Yet again a half a year of waiting???
Well, I don't think a mere HD update would be worth it, but watching the video sure does take me back! What an amazing game. A masterpiece. A true modern classic. Can't wait for "X"
My favorite system of the 32-BIT generation. Panzer Dragoon Saga is right up there at the top of my list next to Zelda Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VI.
It's definitely a shame you can't use the Gamepad screen for local multiplayer. Sonic All-Stars Racing did this and it was great. I can't understand why MK8 doesn't.
You know what? I honestly think this list makes the PS4 2014 launch list look sad. Of course there's a lot more games there, but 95% are indie crap. When you pick the gems out, the Wii U comes on top. I mean come on, people...Monolith's X (by far the most promising title atm for me at least), Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros and Bayonetta 2!! Roll on E3 with a few more hype inducing announcements (hopefully focused on innovative Gamepad usage) and I'm happy.
Well, they all share the same genre, but SM3DW is quite different from Donkey Kong for instance. Also, Nintendoland is nothing like Wii Party U. It's true, that Nintendo have been playing it too safe lately, but it's nothing like the yearly Assassin's Creed.
No. Nintendo have published plenty of fresh titles recently, like SM3DW, Pikmin 3, Nintendoland etc. Of course they tend to recycle stuff too much at times, like the New Super Mario Bros-series, but it's not like the AC-series, where practically just the city changes. Even the same dodgy controls stay.
Well...you know what? I don't care. Of course the fact that third parties are skipping the Wii U is a problem, but I couldn't care less for the next Assassin's Creed. They're basically just doing the same thing over and over again as long as it sells, and I've had enough.
Four words I don't want to be associated with any of the classic Nintendo series: dark, gritty, mature and realistic. Not Star Fox, not Zelda, not Mario, not F-Zero, not Metroid. Never. Everything is dark, gritty, mature and realistic today and one of the reasons why I love Nintendo is that it's something else!
Do you realize that Sony lost 5 billion dollars with the PS3? That's more than Sega lost with the Dreamcast and Microsoft with the first Xbox COMBINED. I suppose the PS3 sold "well", but definitely not a strategy Nintendo should aim for.
