Re: Review: Tetris Party Live (DSiWare)

@Koops3 It's already well-known that Tetris Party Live is a small version of Tetris Party Deluxe. You can add friend codes for both Live and Deluxe and play Vs Battle so post your friend code in the forum so we can add you!

Re: Review: Tetris Party Live (DSiWare)

Love this game, I think it's one of the best on DSiWare. It's great to have this on the go without having to swap out cartridges. I always thought a WFC-enabled Tetris would be perfect for DSiWare, and here it is.

I actually think no DS Download Play is reasonable. As long as your friends have DSi's then at 500 points you should all be able to play. If you want that kind of option or the other peripheral game modes, you should buy Tetris Party Deluxe instead. As for no local wireless, you can still hook up using WFC as long as you're within range of a wifi signal.

The online play is perfect. There is canned text chat (not mentioned in the review? - press Y to use it during play), voice chat for friends, practice play while waiting for opponents and a nice selection of VS Battle items. Duel Spaces is a nice alternate gameplay mode that I'm glad they included.

By the way, the Korobeiniki remix in Tetris Party Live is the exact same one in Tetris Party for WiiWare.

Re: Review: ToeJam & Earl (MD)

I think this review is very lacking and somewhat unprofessional. There's a lot more to say about this great game, and I think the low-ish score isn't justified by what's said in the review text.

"there are many things that are unfair like presents which impact you negatively and aliens who you have little chance of escaping from that knock you off the planet's surface and make you fall several levels!"

The unpredictability of the presents is part of the appeal - that's why they're presents - and isn't unfair at all. The bad ones can be circumvented using the identifying carrot man. The enemies are difficult but can all be dealt thanks to the slower pace (yes, the pacing is important) and using the correct presents from your arsenal.

When you don't have the presents (or when there are Bogeymen or tornadoes around) is when the game is thrilling, so it's not "unlikely to get your pulse racing". The reviewer didn't play the game long enough to appreciate its depth, methinks.

Re: Zoonami: Nintendo Not Generating Enough Interest in Downloads

pixelbuffer

This just shows how many problems there are with WiiWare:

  • No promotion or exposure for WiiWare games
  • WiiWare restrictions (memory size, developer entry level)
  • Minimal Wii internal memory
  • Wii can't run games from SD card
  • General lack of focus on online features
  • Difficult to navigate the shop
  • Shop doesn't stand out on the Wii menu
  • No demos
  • Games never get price drops over time
  • No sales or discounts ever occur
  • Poor game release timing
  • Games can never get patches or updates
  • Efforts were too little, too late

Let's hope the get it all fixed for the 3DS. I really hope they do.

Re: Features: Reader NES Stories

David B. should never have returned that Genesis. It was way better than the NES, what a silly move! Okay, he would only be able to rent games or get them at birthdays and Christmas - but that's how most of our childhoods were like!

Those stories were otherwise very heartwarming, and pulled at the ol' nostalgic heartstrings. <3 my NES.

Re: NBA Jam Exclusive to HMV in UK

It doesn't make any sense to have exclusivity deals in retail though. The more shelf space across all stores the game gets, the more sales. I thought they were trying to recoup losses from NBA Elite 2011 with this game, too. Oh well.

Re: Broken Rules Feels Let Down by Nintendo's Online Strategy

pixelbuffer

@xDemon720x They need to not just merge the Wii Shop Channel and the Nintendo Channel, they need to merge those with the Wii's main menu! That way we get on-the-fly news, play info, recommendations from the Nintendo Channel without having to access it specifically, and then we get a shopping experience available right at our fingertips. Not only will that bring down the barrier of entry to online services, it will also ensure that people who play the Wii know that it has online capabilities, and it will encourage them to use them.

It doesn't make sense to hide the Wii Shop and Nintendo Channel behind channels. They should be part of the menu and easily accessible.

Re: Wii Remote Plus Launching in Europe Before Japan

pixelbuffer

I'm not surprised. The Wii has done incredibly well in PAL regions, especially among the new gaming crowd. Releasing the Wiimote Plus there is showing confidence in the region and encouraging casual players to use Motion Plus. Perhaps there are some casual Motion Plus titles on the way?

Re: Review: Shantae: Risky's Revenge (DSiWare)

pixelbuffer

Yep, this one is pure quality. Definitely deserving of the 10. The niggling bits are so minor that I really don't care about them. The characters are fresh and the gameplay is nostalgic and the aesthetic is total class. I love it!

P.S. The review's tagline is awesome.

Re: 3DS Details Unleashed at Japanese Press Event

pixelbuffer

Wow, everything about it sounds perfect. Also, for the massive amounts of features you're getting, I think the price is fairly reasonable. (Also the free 2GB SD card is a very smart move!)

Let's hope the online service is just as excellent!

Re: 3DS Launches Feb. 26 in Japan

pixelbuffer

Well Nintendo never said anything about a Christmas release and I'm perfectly happy with a March release.

Also it's definitely going to be cheaper than that in the US. You all have crazy electronics prices. Can't say about elsewhere though. :/

Re: Rumour: 3DS Tech Specs Revealed

pixelbuffer

Those are great specs for a portable device. I expect the visuals will look almost as good as the PS3/360 considering the fact that less processing is required thanks to the smaller screen sizes.

Re: Shantae: Risky's Revenge Coming October 4th

pixelbuffer

Now to watch the people who got over-hyped about this game get depressed when they play the real thing and find that it doesn't live up to their astronomical expectations.

It's just a game people! A great one, I'm sure, but if you expect too much then you're going to be let down because it didn't match your imagined version of it.
