If you played and loved Flipper on DSiWare, you might be eagerly anticipating the next game from developer Goodbye Galaxy Games. The good news is that you're about to find out what form it will take, and you can find out here first.
Yes, we've teamed up with studio head Hugo Smits to bring you the first artwork and details of his new game this Friday. All we can tell you so far is that it's going to be another 2D game with a retro vibe, with Hugo listening to the criticisms of Flipper – you can expect his new game to be longer than its predecessor, for example.
Earlier this year we interviewed Hugo about his plans, and here's what he had to say:
NL: What's next after Flipper for Goodbye Galaxy?
HS: A lot, I’m working on a prototype right now for a 2D platform/puzzle game. I can’t really say anything about it, other than that the core-gameplay will be new/innovative while the rest (graphics, sound) will be old-school. Besides that, I want to make a lot of different games for DSi-ware. I have ideas for a strategy, shmup, FPS and a beat-em-up game.
Come back on Friday for the first exclusive artwork and details of this intriguing new DSiWare title, only at Nintendo Life.

I'm excited about this new project of Hugo's and can't wait to see more about it. Bring it on!
Looking forward to it. I'm also excited about the other thing Hugo said:
"I want to make a lot of different games for DSiware. I have ideas for a strategy, shmup, FPS and a beat-em-up game." This was last year so who knows if Hugo is still planning these games, but it would be nice.
I still need to pick up Flipper. There's really no excuse. >.<
@Hyper: It's good to know you read the article rather than just the title
It would be really awesome to see Galaxy try their hand at a beat 'em up or FPS. There's almost no Final Fight/Streets of Rage style beat 'em ups on DS and it's no suprise when one comes along like Photo Dojo, it gets a lot of hype. I think Galaxy's version would look more like River City Ransom which isn't a bad thing. And with their quirky art style and graphics they could make a cool FPS. I'm not 2 excited about a puzzle/platformer considering that's all about all you can get on DSiWare. Unless it has an xtremely cool art style or gameplay hook, then there's a chance i get it.
Flipper was a good game. Looking forward to this.
Flipper was pretty amazing for 500 points and being on DSiWare. Count me in for whatever Hugo's planning next.
Ooh, sounds good!
Flipper had a lot of flaws, and was too short for 500pts. (I practically know for a fact that was Nintendo's doing as Hugo himself said he wanted it to be 200pts.) Even with it dozen or so problems I still loved the thing. It had a special charm to it (maybe it was the pixelated graphics and bright art style). I strongly look forward to what he comes up with next. I hope he has a little more help this time. Even 2D boy had two developers.
