Wow, I remember there being a series of consecutive months of exciting WiiWare, VC and DSiWare updates when I first joined NL back at the start of this year. Now it looks really stagnant and boring. :/
Sweet! Let's hope that 1) there is integration with the original Rytmik (if you own it) so samples can be used from both of them in either app (I love electronic/rock fusions), and 2) it gets a faster NA release than last time.
Agreed with Sabrewing. Ace Attorney Investigations: Ema Skye would be more appropriate and more interesting. Imagine, you'd get to play as a female, with access to forensic tools for crime scene analysis. And we'd have her sarcastic, misanthropic wit all over the place. Maybe even have poor Apollo as her sidekick or something.
Pretty sure Nintendo is focusing most of its efforts on the 3DS at this point, and that's what I think they should be talking about. When the next home console is properly announced in however many years, then I'll have some interest.
You know what, I could care less about achievements. Just give me a good online service like XBL, with friends, profiles, in-game notifications, messaging, the whole deal. I'll gladly forgo achievements for that!
@GammaGames I think I'd like an 800 point release which is another 128 blocks for maximum sample variety, but can access the data from the original Rytmik so we can make rock/electronic fusion tracks. Oh yeah!
I can imagine Nintendo's next console (I doubt it'd be named "Wii 2" knowing their history of console naming) would have a Blu-ray drive. It's impossible to ignore the benefits of having more content on the disc.
I highly doubt a full home console release for Nintendo next year. It would just be creating competition for the 3DS.
Really excited for the Rytmik release, and looking forward to the Rock Edition!
Here's hoping for compatibility between Rytmik and Rytmik Rock Edition. Electronica + electric guitar makes a great combination and it would be a shame if you couldn't use both in one app, if you have both of them on your DSi.
Well, the gimmick is the alien colour power thingies. But they're more like the Sonic 3 gimmick of having shields with different powers. Colour me (lol) hopeful!
This game is awesome fun. Hilarious, and made by Capcom so expect a lot of parallels with Phoenix Wright. (A few Capcom game references in there too. <3) However, the game is far less "logical" than PW - much more comical in nature. Don't expect any amazing smackdown denouements like PW either. It's a comedy game and does that with excellence.
I agree with the 6/10 score from the standpoint that it's a full retail game. Excellent voice acting, humour and plots aside, the game is just too short to warrant its original $30(?) price tag. If you can get it for $10 or less (like I did), then I'd give it a healthy 9/10. Took me about 4 hours to finish but it was one hell of a ride. Even people who haven't watched the show can appreciate it (as long as they're familiar with Hannah-Barbera in general). I'd also say... get the DVDs! I want to, after playing this.
FYI Nintendo didn't report losses, just less revenue. In other words, they still made money and sales, just less than previously.
And this was inevitable, as others have said, the DS hardware market is nearing saturation so a drop in sales must occur.
If Nintendo was actually making losses then they'd be scrambling to do something about it, rather than casually mentioning the DS price drop and the future 3DS release date announcement.
My opinion: great for 200 points. Quite reminiscent of Go in terms of game mechanics, which is a little disappointing because it's impossible to improve on Go. Primrose is perhaps not as well thought out as a lot of other puzzlers because strategies are a little shallow for what's supposed to be a thinking man's game. I had a good score going and I suddenly had double cyan blocks showing up repeatedly, forcing me to lose (even after my loss, the next block was a double cyan!). Not sure if that was a bug or if it's meant to happen to ramp up the difficulty artificially. Replayable, but in short bursts (it won't hold your attention for more than 10 minutes, but you'll play it again after a while away from it).
@iphys Very calming, background-y new age music. The sound effects mix with the background music to give it a nice edge when you have a combo going. All in all nothing special, but it sets a relaxing tone and pace.
The camera worked mostly fine for me. I play in indirect sunlight, or in the evening I have an overhead light on. My only complaint is that the game is too short! I enjoyed searching for all of the letters and objects. It's a very creative game and the technology is marvelous.
Apart from that, yeah it is a bit too much of a tech demo than a game. Maybe they'll have DSi retail releases using technology like this for something better though.
North America release ASAP please! This looks like such an easy and intuitive app. I'd love to do some electronic composition on my DSi. Please come out soon!
I enjoyed Halo and Halo 2 a lot. But I really am tired of the franchise. If they make a Halo game for the Wii, they're just continuing to demonstrate their unoriginality. They're taking the safe road all the time by only making games in their one well-known IP.
I loved that Oni was an attempt to bring gameplay to new places with an original look for a PC game. Let's have something new for the Wii or nothing at all, thanks.
This game is a lot like PSO, and I love it. Yes, the single player is monotonous. The game is supposed to be played multiplayer. The fact that they at least have a full story mode for single player is a huge improvement over PSO (which was basically a string of quests which eventually revealed the story to you). I mostly agree with this review and I think the score is fair, though I'd personally give this game an 8 because of its nostalgia value and it's an absolute blast multiplayer.
Got this when it was new oh so many years ago, as well as the Dreamcast version. Fantastic game, and could do with both DSiWare and WiiWare upgrades. This with Wiimote pointing and touchscreen input would be excellent. Bring back the editor, stage repository, online play and "single cart" DS Download Play and I'd gladly pay 800 points for it!
@HugoSmits I'm actually glad to have a DSiWare game that I can FINISH and put on my SD card, because my DSi's internal memory is full! But next time I'd like to see more substance... I found I wanted to continue playing more since it's fun and unique, but there weren't any more stages. Maybe something like an endless mode for your next title would be good, they always seem to make DSiWare games better imo.
I'm glad I got this game upon release. Was happy to try it out so others could get first impressions before the review. A 7 is about right imo. Very good game.
Thanks for the review! Very in-depth, and with all the info I was wondering about.
Hmm, now I'm on the fence about this. I'd have loved if this had download play because all my friends only have DS Lites. The lack of online leaderboards is a bummer - I don't normally compete worldwide, but this looks like it might get repetitive if it's just a score attack game.
Also, a fairer price would have been 200 points, since it's only $1 on the iPhone. :/ I guess Nintendo insisted on marking up the price.
@Sean+Aaron I guess that's true. I think the Japanese would like MFC, but I couldn't say about Flight Control or Pinball Pulse.
Still, I'd get this in a heartbeat if it came out in the NA store. Provided it was 200 points, looking at the amount of content it has. I love SHMUPs and retro-styled ones make me dance with joy... We need some good ones on DSiWare.
@colmtheperson There's also Chronos Twin which is exactly the same as its retail version. Number Battles is also almost complete, I think. Envious that you can get Zombie BBQ though. Hoping for a NA release!
Good review, covered all the points I was wondering about. Since there's no DS Download Play or single player pass-it-around, I'll pass. Thanks!

Re: Nintendo Download: 20th September 2010 (North America)
10 Second Run looks great. People should be complaining less because of a good VC release.
But why did the calendar catch my interest...?
Re: Review: Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (DS)
@bboy2970 You're hilarious. Did you know the English language came from England? And that England is part of the UK? Good job there.
Re: Review: Last Window: The Secret of Cape West (DS)
Great! I loved Hotel Dusk. Looking forward to this. Too bad about Cing, they've developed a number of great games.
Re: Familiar Abilities Return in New Golden Sun: Dark Dawn Trailer
Long time coming!
Re: EA's Budding Line-Up of 3DS Titles Starts With My Garden
Hmm, hopefully this isn't just shovelware.
Also, interesting that they used a song from The Sims 3 in the trailer video.
Re: GoldenEye Online to Keep You Addicted with Killstreaks, Perks and More
I hope they don't change the cover art from the pre-release image shown at the top of this page. It looks amazing and stands out.
Re: European DSi XL Palette Gets Three More Splashes of Colour
Wow, I like yellow a lot. Too bad I already have a DSi, and I'm not in Europe.

Re: Metroid Co-Creator: Next Nintendo Console Will "Leave Your Mouth Open"
@MasterGraveheart "Or a console that doesn't need a TV period?"
Say hello to the 3DS! Oh, and the Game & Watch, Game Boy, GBC, GBA, DS, DS Lite and DSi, not to mention various other competitors' releases.
Unless you meant the previously-mentioned Nintendo Holodeck. I don't foresee those entering the consumer market any time soon...

Epic failure.

Re: First Jam City Rollergirls Art Smashes Through
Not stylistically like Jet Set Radio, but still a very cool idea. I like the third image with the rocket.
@DAaaMan64 "More strategic Mario Kart" sounds like a winner to me.
Re: First Fluidity Video and Screenshots Released
Hmm, I saw something very similar to this in a student competition a few years ago. That one was fun to play. Let's hope this one is too!
Re: Blackwire Brings Episodic Adventures to DSiWare
I like it already. Hope the story is good!
Hopefully they've caught up on the crime/thriller works of the time too.
Re: Monster Hunter Tri Soundtrack Rolls Out to Stores and Download
I want the BBQ tune as my ringtone.

Just get the online service right this time!

Re: Nintendo Download: August 23rd (North America)
Rytmik!!
And Yet It Moves is great. I bought the PC version a while back and it's a great indie game with some pretty devious physics puzzles. Enjoy it!
Re: New Sonic Wisp Power-Ups Help Sonic Hover and More
@5 That was sarcasm, right? Right.
Re: Nintendo Download: 16th August 2010 (North America)
Rytmik next week. Super excited.

Re: Last Story's Website Gets Updated With Info & Screenshots
I'm impressed! Colour me really excited for a game for once.
And I'm really proud to own the Wii after seeing this and MH3. Finally, we have games with impressive, sophisticated visuals.

Well, the gimmick is the alien colour power thingies. But they're more like the Sonic 3 gimmick of having shields with different powers. Colour me (lol) hopeful!

Re: E3 2010: More Third Party Games Unveiled
P-P-P-Persona?! Is that a remake of Revelations: Persona, like the PSP one? Or is it Persona 5? Excited much!
Re: Castle of Shikigami III
This game is awesome. Really awesome. Full of wacky B-rate, self-referential, quirky Japanese humour. And the game is a great bullet hell shooter.
Europeans: I command you to buy this game!
Re: Nintendo Download: 26th July 2010 (North America)

Yeah, maybe it's latency. I wonder if there are any other reasons, though.
I don't really mind anymore. Now give me 10-player cities and it's all good Capcom!

Looks like a good week for DSiWare.
I'd suggest everyone get the KOF retail collections rather than buy the games individually from VC. You get more bang for your buck IMO.
Re: Review: Puzzle Bobble Galaxy (DS)
Great, I love Puzzle Bobble! It's one of my favourite series, especially playing competitively against friends. I must pick this up.
Re: Libera Wing

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th March 2010 (Europe)
