It's definitely looking a bit rough, but uou could maybe say that about the first one in hindsight too and I still enjoyed it. If thry release this on a console I own still (PS4, Switch 1), I'll definitely pick it up at some point.
I feel like the reviewers and the fans aren't even playing the same game? This is easily the worst Mario Kart and is awful in nearly every single way.
They couldn't even manage to get the controls right, somehow? And they removed tons of stuff from MK8, including a proper Grand Prix, which is actually all of the content of Mario Kart, in my opinion. They don't even let you unlock things like a normal racing game would, which defeats the entire point of playing every track more than once. I genuinely can't believe how bad this game is.
I had downloaded it, but after the reveal of Switch 2 and how awful it all looks, I just deleted it. If this is how things are going to be now, Nintendo is dead to me and they aren't going to do anything else I'm interested in. Since BotW, they've been really hit or miss already, now it seems they are just doing misses and greed.
I think it's probably one of the all-time weakest. It's awkward, though. Games are there this time around. The problem is that they are just all really bad looking and going in the wrong directions. Wii U is probably my pick. Say what you will, but it has a pretty stacked launch.
Really bummed by how bad Mario Kart World is looking and a Donkey Kong platformer is such a waste of time to me. Idk, it's a massive shame. I guess video games aren't really for me anymore.
It was really slow and boring and they didn't have all that much to show.
Mario Kart World is still their big game, but between the insane price, the butt-ugly art direction, and the features no-one asked for (open world???), I can't bring myself to care. And I've been obsessed with Mario Kart for decades.
I'm not a fan of Souls games, Multiplayer games, or Sports games. So that's most of the other stuff they showed.
Gamecube games are neat, but I already have a full collection at this point. What I really wanted was remasters or remakes of these games on a console I already own. Give us WWHD, TPHD, and Metroid Prime Trilogy Remastered already.
Kirby Air Riders could be exciting, but we saw nothing to actually be excited about. And, I'll be frank, the original game isn't actually very fun as a racer? I'm more interested in the potential here than anything...
And I do not care at all for Donkey Kong or his games. It's frankly depressing they spent so much time on a game for this character.
Also, the weird "let's see what we can get away with selling to customers" stuff spread throughout was really really gross. Why is the manual being sold to us as a "game"? Why is a ***** tech demo being sold as a game? (I've made game jam games more polished than this trash, genuinely). It was honestly embarrassing.
I could not be more frustrated and annoyed honestly. I did not think it could be this bad, but here we are. I just hope they fail and they fail hard. My biggest fear is that this garbage will sell anyway, like what happened with PS5.
I think it's pretty clear that the team making these remasters did not employ a UI designer or possibly even an art director... BUT, taking that into account, the font is at least up to the quality of the rest of the game now and is actually legible. I wish it was more polished and consistent, but I'd say that about the rest of these games too.
Pikmin 4 is definitely my most anticipated. Pikmin 3 was just such a phenomenal game that there's no way I won't adore 4.
Beyond that, I'm very hyped for Theatrhythm. Curtain Call is what I consider the best rhythm game. I will say I'm slightly wary of the change away from stylus, though. Hopefully it doesn't get ruined by that.
Honestly, I'm more hyped for both these games than for Zelda, despite BotW being one of my favorite games snd despite Zelda being my favorite series. They just haven't shown anything new or exciting about it yet, in my opinion. It looks $20 DLC that should've come out 3 years ago level so far... We'll see though.
Nintendo's ass-backward save backup system for specifically ACNH resulted in me losing my progress for the entire first year of playing after my Switch had an unfortunate accident. It was the only game I lost my save from.
I'll never get that back and my island will always feel worse than it was before, so I don't plan on ever playing again. If I want to play AC, I now find myself going to the other games that I either have yet to play or that I still havr my progress in. It helps that earlier entries have much better NPCs and require way less grinding too. I was all for the mindless grinding when I was stuck at home for months, but I have multiple jobs, hobbies, etc. now to upkeep and I'll never have the time in my life to do that over again.
If they wanted people to play long-term, they should have made cloud saves actually ***** work. Content updates, imo, actually just add problems in this case and serve to alienate those already gone further.
$4k for voice acting a game like this is insanely tiny. I'm about to drop $1k just for vocals on a song, for comparison. Idk what's going on at Platinum, but that's *****.
In any case, I wasn't buying the game already, so I can't really affect the numbers. I'd highly recommend any fans just buy Valkyrie Elysium instead though. That game is great.
Not really our fault we wanted something actually interesting and exciting from Retro again. Personally, despite the claims, I consider the DK platformer reboots to be quite ***** (and the character not particularly deserving of modern video games), so I've been desperate for literally anything even half interesting from Retro for over a decade now. They should have done something Zelda instead.
@brunojenso Nothing else at the moment. This started just as a way to practice my Japanese (mostly during an old job I had lol), but it ballooned into much more when we realized what we needed to do to make our Climax translation the best it could be. It ended up taking a team of 5 almost 3 and a half years to finally complete and we definitely couldn't have done it without everyone involved. I think I'll be taking it easy as far as translation goes for awhile haha.
But I'm very happy everyone can finally play this game in English.
I can go ahead and answer this while I'm here. Yes, most of the menus and important gamplay information was already in English. This translation was definitely aimed at the hardcore fans, because the bulk of the work was translating the story chapters, character profiles, and vehicle profiles. That said, there was still plenty of Japanese in the menus (link cable messages, tutorials, the entire track editor, descriptions, etc.), so it was still quite a bit of work (over 3 years, in fact).
@HeadPirate Hey, I'm the translator of the project here. We did, in fact, do a full localization job on the game. In this case, what this meant was changing details of the F-Zero characters and world to match that of the previous F-Zero games that were released in English (such as Clank Hughes -> Tek Hughes, for example). That's a small example, but there were a lot of changes like this and some things where we had to make tough decisions about which direction to go, so we think "localization" is the most accurate term to use for this version of Climax.
@__jamiie Ad populum doesn't get you out of an explanation, not that I have ever seen anyone say the originals are better than Sigma before this post right now. I've only seen, for the past 15+ years, the Sigma games considered the definitive versions of modern Ninja Gaiden and fantastic games.
Combat is tighter how? Game plays better how?
Dunno what you're talking about as far as the Xbox 360 being "best hardware". If we're talking in terms of raw power, it's the weaker of the two. The bigger difference was that PS3 was notoriously more difficult to develop for at first (which actually essentially contradicts your claim). Also, the original Ninja Gaiden Black wasn't even on Xbox 360. It was an original Xbox game instead... So, this doesn't even explain anything.
Everything else you've mentioned, like your personal controller preferences (from two generations ago...) or gore preferences (ew wtf) have nothing to do with the quality of the games and aren't relevant in this conversation. And similarly, yes, who makes a game doesn't matter. It's the result that matters.
Uhhhh, the Sigma games are the definitive versions though? Why would anyone want the originals when we have them? I don't get it. That's like complaining about Switch getting Dragon Quest XI S instead of the god-awful original. The originals are just strictly worse games.
Surprised to see Phantasy Star Collection, Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon, Super Monkey Ball Jr., and F-Zero Climax missing here. Those are all easily some of the best games on the platform, especially Shining Force, which imo has always outclassed Fire Emblem (and is probably the best Genesis game too).
Edit: Monster Rancher Advance 2 is missing, too. It's a fantastic game for the GBA.
I'd say it's a far better game than 3D World and made far more sense to be that type of game. 3D World just copied it and added co-op, essentially, which was kinda lame.
